Recommended Posts

HI every one.

I picked up the starter set a while back. The got hold of the core rules for a read and though hay lets give this a go.

My group (inc 2 first time roleplayers) made their own characters for the beginner game and had a fun ol time. So we are off to do the long arm of the hutt but them im at a bit of a loss
would you recommend Under a black sun or can some one point me in the direction of an fun campaign....

Under a Black Sun takes place in the lower levels of Couruscant, like a 1313 type story.

The Jewel of Yavin is a heist story that takes you to Cloud City.

I wasn't a fan of Jewel of Yavin. Parts of it were fun but it can be hit or miss. Your mileage may vary however.

Or - and I know this is a crazy thought - come up with your own games tailored to your characters? "But Raging Penguin," I hear you cry "I dont know how to write games!" - that's okay, just do what I do and steal from Spaghetti westerns, or Heist movies or WWII movies or Samurai movies. File the serial nunbers off, take your character's back stories and your player's desires into account, and go from there.

If writing encounters, adventures, and stringing it all together into a campaign is intimidating, take a look here: The Angry GM. Specifically, the section on "How to F$&%ing GM" will be useful. Most of his examples are D&D, but the majority of the advice is not setting-specific. In particular, the "Angry Guide to A$&kicking Combats" (Parts 1, 2, and 3) have a ton of great information on encounter design and running a great combat scene. With your research done, head on over to Begging for XP and read their post on "session 0," download the setting creation sheet and get together with your players to hash things out.

Another tip - and I freely admit this doesn't work for everyone - is to consider an episodic format for your games. If you treat each session like an episode of Rebels or The Clone Wars, then it's OK if someone can't make it. Not all of the characters are there for every episode. In that respect, you can have a larger "stable" of heroes to choose from. Once you have the idea for the over-arching story, individual episodes can go in some pretty odd directions, but that's alright because it's just one or two sessions and it still contributes to the overall story. Perhaps best of all, the episodic format is great for allowing you to rotate GMs; everybody should get a chance on both sides of the screen, and really lets episodes have a different "feel."

There are a lot of modules you can run outside of the big 3(Beyond the Rim, Jewel of Yavin, Mask of the Pirate Queen) for Edge and don't forget the adventures that they produce for the other lines can be remodeled so you can run them with Edge characters as well.

That said, there are a lot of fan made adventures on the web that you might want to look into. You can find some of them here under the "adventure" section.

I have started working on a few ideas (especially orientated around the 2 new players) and have dropped a few plot devices into the pre-generated sorties. I'll try to keep you inform of how it goes
