Looking for Kannan Jarrus experts

Recommended Posts

Topic is little vague..

If you are looking for squad-advice? Why not post this in the squad sub-forum? If you are looking for advice on how the rules interaction with Kanan Jarrus (crew) are? Why not post this in the rules sub-forum?

Where are the experts out there? Also, there was a guy with good results at regionals with Kannan + EU and Biggs + R3-A2. Please help, need some advice :)

Thanks to all

Do you need help and advice with where the experts for Kannan are?

Or are you asking a different question?  :P

I think you need to post the entire list before we can say anything to you.
I, for one, have never seen a kanan list + biggs that included biggs with the stress bot or kanan with engine upgrade.

I have seen a lot of Kanan/biggs/ezra lists that has gone far in tournaments.

What do you want advice on? List building, list flying?

Cheers

Sorry for vague explanations

I want to try out Kannan with FCS, TLT, Engine Upgrade and Zeb shuttle. Along with Biggs (probably with R3-A2)

So the squad is clear. I just wanted to look around for some tactical advices (early, mid and end game), maybe keeping Biggs out of play until second confrontation etc.

How to counter alpha strike lists (Dengar/Bossk), Defenders or Mindlink madness. Strategic squad point calculations, links to potential tournament videos with similar lists etc

I like the idea of Engine Upgrade for the potential end game (when Biggs is alive you would rarely use it, but afterwards it sounds gold to me)

Haha, beat me to it.

IG88E - what questions do you have?

One thing I'll mention about the engine upgrade that never really dawned on me until I watched the stream (and listened to the commentary) - I rarely use it offensively.  I'm more than content to sit back and stack focus tokens on Rey.  I believe I only boosted once in the stream, and it was to prevent a R1 donut hole scenario.  That is the purpose of the EU.

As for stressbot, I consider Biggs to be a 26 point ship (you really have to equip a 1pt droid to get IA), and none of the 1 point droids provide any real benefit in my experience (Biggs doesn't typically live long enough to make use of the R2, and most ship crits that R5 can resolve don't really matter on him - at least not to the point where it's worth not ejecting the droid to deal with it anyways).  Therefore R3-A2 is a 1 point upgrade, and I treat it as such.  It's a very situational card on Biggs, but when it matters, it makes a huge impact.  Tagging Vessery with a stress preventing the 4k token stack is huge.  Preventing Asajj and Ryad from PTL is also a big deal (or double stressing if they did).  It's also useful when going against the shuttle as then you KNOW it has to move forward and can't 0 stop, which is typically the difference between Kanan clearing and Kanan bumping.  But most matches Biggs doesn't even have a shot, never the less the opportunity to use stressbot, which is fine for a 1pt upgrade.

But I think the Mod slot and to a lesser extent the system slot can be changed up to your preference.

Agreed, I have had quite a lot of success with Tactical jammer to keep Biggs alive a little longer. I even had one game (with Jan Ors rather than Rey) where I managed to win before Biggs died. ;)

Another option I have toyed with is is M9-G8 on Biggs. Get a TL on Kanan on turn 1 and simply leave it there. Kanan gets a reroll on every shot (both TLT shots) without needing TLs himself. This potentially frees up the system slot for Sensor Jammer. The trouble with this is that when Biggs dies (or ejects the droid), he takes the reroll with him too.

I am looking forward to Sabine's Tie coming out as this will create some interesting options. Captain Rex putting a suppressive fire condition on an enemy ship interacts well with Kanan's ability but only works against one ship at a time. Ahsoka also has potential as she can allow Kanan to trigger his EU at the start of the combat phase allowing him to arc dodge even the highest PS aces. She could also potentially be used to trigger Lando crew card for extra token generation. The only trouble with Ahsoka is that she usually wants to stay hidden behind the Captured Tie title meaning the Ghost will have to do all the heavy lifting by itself. It is a great ship but often you need the extra reds that Biggs brings to help get some damage through.

Still, it will mean some interesting potential for Fat Kanan builds.

I'm a big fan of the ion cannon turret. Means that the only safe place for enemies is at range 3. Can even ion a big ship in one turn, which is nice if it's near a board edge!

Downside is lower damage potential and less chance of damage going through against well protected aces.

I like the Ion Cannon because it feels like it fits a bit more with your controlling setup - any ship that's not pointing at you isn't a threat you need to burn focus on

The problem with the Ion Cannon is the lack of punch.  Disregarding the fact that it can only do 1 damage, it's going to have a difficult time stripping tokens on x7 defenders or AT Inquisitors, especially if they're backed by Palp.  With just taking 2 3 dice shots (assuming they're out of arc so you can't take the primary), assuming that you roll 3 hits on each attack, you're relying on the x7 to roll 3 blanks out of 6 dice rolls in order to do a single point of damage (Palp to change one blank, evade token to change add a second - the numbers are slightly off since you might burn the focus on the first roll and therefore focuses count as blanks on the second, but the general probability isn't affected much by that scenario).  While it's arguably more deadly when you do get the hit through, it's only a 25.7% chance of you getting a single damage through.  The 4 shots from the TLT greatly reduce the effectiveness of the once per round abilities (such as the free x7 evade and Palp).

Now you'd have to take a second level analysis on the following turn to see if the 26% chance to hit ends up being better overall (presumably you can get out of arc, the x7 doesn't get the evade token, if it's Ryad she's can't clear the stress, there's the potential for a rock, or even a double rock, etc).

Except that we consistently see builds that are consistent make the top tables.  Even if mathematically ICT ends up being better, the consistency of it is far inferior to that of TLT, so it's more likely to fail you at the wrong time, costing you a critical game.

I agree with the TLT being probably the more effective choice. But I've had good success running ion, although I'm going to switch to the TLT for a few games.

It's just I've managed to get some good results and luck with the ion turret so far!

Edit: Also enjoyed watching your game from the other thread. Good to see how other people play Kanan/Biggs!

I'm no expert, but a friend played the following with great success:

Kanan (Advanced Sensors, Dorsal Turret, Recon Specialist, Recon Specialist, Tactical Jammer)

Biggs (R2-F2, Integrated Astromech)

Airen (Squad Leader)

100 points

Very annoying to deal with. The recent change to Biggs makes it a bit less strong than it used to be though.

I'd say for 1 pt less, you could take Rey instead of a 2nd Recon Specialist. Bank them in the beginning and you'll still end up with 3 focus tokens most rounds of the game. There's no more use to taking a second Recon Specialist anymore with Rey, unless I'm missing something...

It's because Rey only works if you can bank the tokens and some opponents will rush you to prevent that, its sort of the same issue the Moldy Crow had except the Ghost has to move faster because of the large base

You can use this to your advantage though. If you fly across your edge storing tokens, you force your opponent to commit to a path through the rocks. You still end up with several tokens on Rey, and they're making inferior maneuvers. If they don't bumrush through the rocks, you can store a ton of F tokens on Rey.

Hello Khyros! Thanks for the informations. I learned a lot just by reading your comment. I will just look for the streamed video, if I still have questions can I contact you? Would like to try the list for the next tournament
