How does Attack work

Hi,

 

the rules say, if you are engaged with an enemy and are using another action then Retreat or Attack, the enemy will attack you.

 

Question:

I am engaged with an enemy.

I want to attack that eney.

But, I want to use an action on my Asset, e.g using my gun +1 attack when spending a resource in that attack,

 

How does this work?

In principle I would have to use 1 action on my Asset Card (Gun) and the 2nd action to attack, but that would already trigger the attack by the enemy.
