TIE Striker preview is up

I really dont get the hate for LF. I think it will be awesome on the /sf, just not so much on strikers, bombers and punishers. Seriously, there are a lot of complains about x7 defenders, but you can fit 4 /sfs with practically 3 agi in a list. And I believe thus equipped and flown in formation they'd stand a really good chance against a trip defender list.

Aww, sonafabitch; they stole* an upgrade idea from me again:

Mine:

EPT: Fire on my target

When attacking, you may place one weapons disabled token on up to three other friendly ships at range 1 that also have your target in their primary firing arc and have a lower pilot skill than you.  For each weapons disabled token you assign, add one [hit] result to your roll.

Mine's probably too wordy for an upgrade card, but still.

*I hadn't shown this to anyone and thought of it about a week ago, so maybe they didn't steal my idea technically....

You are maybe not the first one to come up with this idea on this forum... (https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/233491-ept-ida-concente-all-firepower/#entry2479620)

I think you've got it backwards, Lightened Frame is almost unplayably mediocre.

I'm pretty sure you are playing a different game to everyone else.

You on the wrong forum?

Would make an interesting counterpoint to Baby Blues.

The Blue Squadron Novice with R2 Astromech and Integrated Astromech, compared to a Special Forces TIE with Special Forces Training, Collision Detector and Lightened Frame.

The T-70s have the advantage in toughness - but only minimally (integrated astromech) - and are faster in a dead run and with large, swoopy turns, thanks to boost, talon rolls, and their speed 2 green turns.

The TIE/sfs have the advantage in agility up close (not at range, because Lightened Frame won't stack with a ranged combat bonus), as well as their segnor's loops, (admittedly red) speed 1 turns, ability to shoot forwards and back (largely irrelevant at long range but quite tasty in a range 1 furball), barrel roll, and tolerance to debris, as well as a slight pilot skill edge.

Blue Squadron Novices versus Zeta Specialists could be an interesting fight.

big question now is how to get SL in other factions

I'm thinking Ghost w/Jan Crew and a few Z-95s. Hit hard.

Unfortunately no EPTs on any of the Ghost pilots. :(

I think you can pack in Kylo, three TIE/fo fighters and a sprinkling of upgrades, or 4 if you're happy just to take generic Epsilon Squadron Pilots.

I kind of want to see if I can make Swarm Leader Omega Ace work, though. Being able to string together that many criticals could be a horrific experience for a decimator or ghost.

Countdown losing his pilot ability by stress hurts. Turning around will be very dangerous.

True but Adaptive Ailerons help in this case as you can do a 135-degree turn with a 1 bank and then a 1 hard-turn.

Not really an effective or top-tier list, but I can finally fly Omega Squadron:

“Omega Leader” (28) TIE/fo Fighter (21), Hyperwave Comm Scanner (1), Swarm Leader (3), Stealth Device (3)

“Omega Ace” (29) TIE/fo Fighter (20), Comm Relay (3), Push the Limit (3), Stealth Device (3)

Omega Squadron Pilot (21) TIE/fo Fighter (17), Comm Relay (3), Crack Shot (1)

Omega Squadron Pilot (21) TIE/fo Fighter (17), Comm Relay (3), Crack Shot (1)

HCS lets Omega Leader Evade up the entire block at the start of the game.  The Omega Squadron Pilots are wingmen for OL, who can get some extra dice to throw at the opponent who can't modify their defense dice.  Is it as good as the classic Comm Relay/Juke combo?  Probably not.  Still, nice to fly an all ______ Squadron pilot list.

You know, I'm not sure how to get it to work, but Swarm Leader Omega Ace is a terrifying thought. Setting up a target lock and a focus is not easy without push the limit (although an Upsilon Shuttle could help) - but being able to look at a shields-down ghost at range 1 and say "take 5 face-up damage cards" is.......insane.

Only thing I could think of would be super telegraphing what you are doing and land the TL at R3, then make sure you can focus when you close to R1.

Or upgrade a PalpShuttle to Jendon w/ Title.  Let him TL anyone on the board on T1, pass the TL to Omega Ace.  Keep your Evade caddies close by, take focus action, ruin someone's day.

Or a regular Upsilon (if I take First Order units, I tend to want a pure first order force) - Co-ordinate can be used to focus, then the action to target lock.

The problem is that the Upsilon can't (obviously) evade, and is a 30-point block, so you're cutting into the number of other ships you've got to supply the evades. Even with Swarm Leader, Omega Ace's ability isn't so awesome I'd want to build an entire squad around him.

Though, the more I think about it, Vader doesn't need Adv Targeting Computer if he has Swarm Leader.  You won't be able to modify your die roll if you keep the TL.  Well, you can Focus.   Hmm....not sure.

ATC is still too good to pass up. You can still spend the TL in the event you blank out, after all.

Yes, I have been thinking about this.  So...if you get your multiple shots and you blank out bad enough, you use the TL.  If you don't, you at least add 1 Crit.  So, it would have to be worth while to spend the TL instead of just adding one Crit.  Also, if you don't get to use Swarm Leader due to them dying, not being in arc, or without action, then you can still use it straight up.

The more I think on it, the list does rely on Vader heavily.  So, I would think that perhaps he does need Engine Upgrade to get out of a tight spot.

I still wish I could use Fearlessness on Vader as adding in that hit would just be pure win.

I dunno, my money would be on an Epic ship with Striker escort so that maybe some new other imperial cards could get bundled in their (Like Krennic or Thrawn).

Epic ships don't get EPT's.

Hmmm idk why i forgot nightbeast exists, but he is pretty boss for enabling swarm leader

"Chaser", too. Evade for your action, and snag a higher PS pilot's focus token out of the air when they spend it.

  • Howlrunner - Juke
  • Scourge - Swarm Leader
  • Mauler Mithel - Snap Shot
  • Night Beast
  • Chaser
  • Academy Pilot

A decent PS (mostly) block, 6 primary attacks, Howlrunner's reroll, 2 guys with extra attack dice, 2 guys who can generate action-cheap evades - and Howlrunner will probably evade anyway, so you've got a 'third' evade donor if you need it.

Personally, I don't rate Howlrunner in a Swarm Leader list.  First off, she's too expensive.  Next, you have to fly in formation around her.  You become a lot more predictable and the chance of not getting the target in arc really starts to happen.  I've flown multiple Tie Fighters without Howlrunner and actually swarming your opponent is what you need to do.  You can create all sorts of bumps and blockage when you have 4-5 Tie Fighters taking up the field.  With their 1 hard turn and rest of dial, you can ensure that you have someone in arc with an Evade token.  I feel that Howlrunner is a waste of points in this type of a list.  This is the real swarm as it literally swarms your opponents.

There are a number of good Tie Fighter pilots to take that would work in a Swarm Leader list.  The only problem is that they take up points that might get you another Academy Pilot.  It's rough, but I can think of these guys that would do well:

  • Dark Curse = He might not need his Evade Token
  • Night Beat = He gets a Focus for free and then does an Evade
  • Backstabber = might not get shot at if on the edges so can give up Evade
  • Wampa = Just might get that hit through, even though spending Evade token for someone else.
  • Academy Pilot = Best used when you get in front where you know they will bump, but you get an Evade.  You can give up your Evade if you are touching and have them in arc.

Chaser is best used when everyone is taking a Focus, except in this list, everyone is taking an Evade.  So, not sure on him.

This might be hard to pull off....

"Omega Ace" (20)

Swarm Leader (3)

Comm Relay (3)

Major Stridan (32)

Fire-Control System (2)

Systems Officer (2)

Pattern Analyzer (2)

Academy Pilot (12)

Academy Pilot (12)

Academy Pilot (12)

Total: 100

The Upsilon can feed both a TL and a focus to OA with Coordinate. Stridan has an awesome ability that allows him to pass any synergies out to range 3. So really OA could be blocked completely and still get actions. The Academies just go in, evade and clog up lanes. Anyway, it could net 4-5 automatic crit results. Imagine hitting a Ghost or Decimator with 4 crits... The shuttle is no slouch either with 4 attack dice.

Targetting Synchroniser is how you make Swarm Leader OA work.

When a friendly ship at Range 1-2 is attacking a ship you have locked, the friendly ship treats the 'ATTACK (TARGET LOCK):' header as 'ATTACK:' If a game effect instructs that ship to spend a target lock, it may spend your target lock instead.

Omega Ace's ability is definitely "a game effect" - looks legit.

Which reduces the "support requirements" to just a TIE/fo with a Targeting Synchroniser....Epsilon Ace is probably not a bad call, as at PS12, he's best placed to snap up locks on elusive targets.

I may have to try that in the TIE/fo All-stars!

Yup, it's legit and lol 5 crits at range 1.

Target painting with Targeting Synchronizer is a fantastic use for Epsilon Ace's short lived PS12.

That combo is a minimum of 43 points to put on the board. That's 4 Academy pilots with 9 points to splash around on upgrades or different pilots.

I just realized that Swarm Leader is LIMITED, which is smart, but a shame.  Imagine having a couple Black Squadron Tie Fighters mixed with Academy Pilots to have a couple of nasty Tie Fighters and a handful of Evade givers.

It's unique, not Limited. Limited would still allow you to use multiples.

I believe its only unique due to Epic... Imagine the craziness you could pull off.

In a 100 point list I can't see any combos that would be too OP. You just can't generate enough Evades to feed a couple of them.
