Tie Striker Speculations

Recommended Posts

Looking at the little card fanin the Go Rogue article, the Striker comes with an elite upgrade that is unique (has a dot before the name). I'm trying to think about the last time we got a unique elite upgrade.

Lone Wolf is the last one I know of. A bit behind the times so I am probably wrong.

And Squad Leader, I think.

Hey, just noticed that the polish distributor, Galakta, has some different bits of text visible, so let me warm you up for the upcoming preview by translating whatever I can.

PS3 pilot is called "Defender of Scarif" (wasn't sure about the last word, Google has given a hint that it's where some Rogue One stuff takes place) and only has fluff text (basically Obsidian for Striker)

PS4 pilot is called "Black Squadron Scout"

PS5 pilot is called "Countdown" (literally that, no translation applied)

PS6 pilot is called "Pure Sabbac" and reads the following bits:

"When attacking...

1 or...
roll 1 additional..."

The EPT card's title starts with "Leader" in polish version.

Thought you might enjoy, unfortunately, the cards' pic is of lower quality than FFG one, so deciphering anything more than that is beyond me.

Wouldn't pure Saabac's ability be automatically lose if Chewie is in play?

Dejarik is the game where you let the Wookiee win. "Pure Sabacc"'s ability would be to defeat all other ships unless face the pilot "Idiot's Array".

Precisely. Idiot's Array is the highest hand in Sabacc.

Sounds Cool.

I'm going to guess "Scarif Garrison Pilot" - as noted, Scarif is supposedly the mangrove-y planet in question.

"Black Squadron Scout" also makes sense - we know DS-61 ended up on the death star, and they'd presumably not duplicate the pilot name, so some variation  (like blue squadron pilot/novice/pathfinder) was inevitable.

Pure Sabbac's ability sounds interesting.

Roll one additional dice whenever you [something] when attacking. Blanks are possible, but that might as well be a reroll - because if you can't trigger it without rolling a blank, and the Striker can't target lock, it essentially is a reroll (barring, I guess, explicitely buying targeting computer or predator if he has an EPT).

It (hopefully!) won't be off rolling a hit, because you are almost garuanteed to roll one on a 3-dice attack, which would push him into TIE Phantom levels of dakka.

Getting an extra die on a focus or critical might be nice.

"Leader" for the EPT is interesting.  Assuming it's a straight translation, we're looking at "Sw??? Leader" - "Swarm Leader"? "Sweep Leader"?

"when ??

weapon ??

other ??

the de[fender?] ??

arcs ???

evade ??

ship ???"

Taken from that perspective, I'm wondering if the effect might be to somehow bugger up the defender's evade for every other friendly who has the defender in arc?

I'm not sure. I doubt it'll affect dice rolls, because the word 'evade' seems out of place.

When talking about die results, FFG invariably uses the die result icon, and when talking about the die (roll one more, or one less) they're called 'defence dice'*, and when talking about attack results . The only time they use the phrase 'evade' on an upgrade card is when they're talking about the Evade action or Evade token.

* All right, technically 'defense dice'. Don't make me pop down to the armoury and get my aluminium club.

I guess I'm the idiot then... Oops... Probably still best to let the wookie win. I like my arms.

Does it look to anybody else like "Pure Sabaac" does not have an EPT?

I don't see enough to discern that.

A minor gripe, but should the colour not be the light grey Tie variation instead of greyish blue. Every pic I have seen of the Striker looks like its a light grey.

I'll be repainting mine to be the light grey anyway, as I've done with nearly all my other Tie models.

I might repaint mine, I prefere the light grey, but has kept my blue ones for screen accuracy.

Now wouldn't it be great if Pure Sabacc ability was "When attacking, if you roll 1 or more critical hits, roll an additional attack dice per critical."

That would be awesome, and fit  his gambling nickname perfectly.

He would compete with Wampa, being the Emperors little favorite crit making pet pilot.

Would that introduce a new step in the flow chart or would you resolve the additional dice immediately or during the "Modify your attack dice" step? I guess that would go the way of Finn, right?
