Tie Striker Speculations

There's also the new elite pilot talent "Sw???", which has a 'unique' dot. Interested to see what that does, as it looks wordy.

"when ??

weapon ??

other ??

the de[fender?] ??

arcs ???

evade ??

ship ???"

I'm assuming something about when attacking, getting a free evade token if you're within the arc of someone other than the defender? - sort of a reverse concord dawn?

Yep, I'm super pumped to find out what's in this set and get my pre-order in.  Probably won't until next week though.

I'll be very interested to see if they make the Rogue One deadline.  I'm not holding out a lot of hope for the whole wave at this point, but maybe the U Wing and the Striker.

I'm hoping this waves Imp ships are meta worthy like the Rebs and Scum we're in the last wave. Seems World's had the Scum boosted by FFG with the shadow caster....like the Scum needed another great large based ship. Crap, I'm of topic and ranting again....sorry; I'm just sore a bit regarding the relative weakness of the latest Imp ship designs; they're just almost great, just not.

Would you exclude the defender from that? It's a top tier ship now but was pretty poor when it first came out and very rarely saw competetive play so with the titles it's basically a new ship.

Without wishing to get off topic too much, the problem that you might find is that if you compare imperial ships to what they already have (including defenders), its going to take a really really good ship to make them viable alternatives.

Oh man, I hope this is something around adding an evade result, not evade token, when in arc or something. Another thing that will help the Strikers 2 green Dice and importantly for me, potentially help the SF...

If it is add an evade result, putting that on Fenn Rau would essentially mean that before any dice are rolled, he has two evade results, then his four agility dice at range 1.

I would rather not have to face that. :(

Nor would I. Fortunately Concord Dawn Protector has a bloody specific trigger, so it wouldn't be hard to make the two mutually exclusive - especially if it's a case of affecting 'someone else' other than the target.

I dunno. Two lines with 'evade' and 'ship' implies something akin to the TIE/x7 title - because one 'line' on an upgrade card is the phrase "[assign an] evade token to your ship".

If the trigger is you attacking, but it's a defensive bonus, the 'payout' has to be an evade token, because that's the only way for the evade result to 'persist' until you need it (because given the wave's 'big thing', any other persistent effect would be denoted on a condition you could assign to yourself, the target, or whoever, and there is no condition card in the set).

If the trigger is you defending....the presence of 'weapon' is interesting in the first line - I assume that's going to be "when attacking with a primary weapon" because that's a rules trigger we've seen pretty often.

If not, then it's not going to be "when attacking with a secondary weapon" because whilst some packs contain upgrades better suited to ships other than the one they come with (accuracy corrector, for example) we've never seen a ship come with an upgrade it can't use, and the striker has no secondary weapons.

Which would mean "when defending against a primary [or secondary] weapon" which is an interesting requirement (I don't think there are any upgrades which defensively trigger only against secondary weapons? The closest I can think of is Talonbane Cobra, because his ability relies on the range bonus which is primary-specific). I think its unlikely, because of what appears to be a reference to 'the defender' on the fourth line - because on a defensive card, it wouldn't say 'the defender' it would say 'you'.

Finally getting around to looking at the upgrade cards yet to be spoiled and I think Lightened Frame goes something like this:

When defending with more

defense dice ... than [the opponent's]

attack dice you may

roll 1 additional defense dice

You cannot modify

your defense dice ...

Has this been surmised before?

Depending on the cost - please be zero - could be an auto-include in Tie Swarms.

Other way around is how people are expecting it: when rolling fewer defense than your opponent has attack dice, roll 1 extra and no mods.

Which im not sure if thats how it will be. The striker has an evade action, thats modifying your defense. Why would they include something with a ship that has an evade action that cant use the evade action?

I'm betting 'may not spend focus tokens to mod'.

Definitely see it going either way. As to why include an upgrade card that could be used on other ships?

There could be lots of reasons, but the most probable one is that FFG literally does this with every expansion to ensure there's motivation to buy each pack.

It's assumed it's "less defence dice than the attacker" because the TIE striker is an agility 2 ship - if it was 'more than', it would virtually never trigger.

Assuming this modification is dirt cheap (or even free), then this is part of the effort which seems to have been expended to make the ship 'effectively' a cut-price TIE interceptor (no push the limit on  the generic, but it has a 'free' boost, only agility 2, but it has a 3rd green dice against 90% of attackers), but which (rather elegantly) doesn't leave the ship essentially immune to 2-dice attackers or untouchable at long range (because no autothrusters and your range bonus will disable the card).

The "you cannot" is possibly "you cannot equip this card if your agility is greater than 2" - it would make sense that a modification potentially granting extra green dice would be something you'd want to prevent the TIE interceptor taking - and if it were free, you'd DEFINITELY want to cap its usability on a TIE swarm.

This way it becomes a nice, hopefully cheap, boost to the TIE/sf, TIE phantom, TIE bomber, and TIE punisher - but avoids being an automatic choice on the latter three, because you've got really good cards competing for the modification slots (Advanced cloaking device/stygium particle accelerator and long range scanner/guidance chips respectively). Definitely the TIE/sf would like it - it doesn't exactly turn Backdraft into something as tough as a TIE/x7, but an extra green die for a low cost can go a long way on a ship which is twice as tough as a standard TIE, especially with Wired to give (equally cheap) rerolls.

Shame the algorithm held - now we have at least a week to wait for a Striker article.. (unless the FFG gods give us two previews in one day)

But, they did promise that the Striker would be out before the movie!

I'd bet same time next week for the Striker announcement.  I'm waiting with bated breath.

As a shameless Imperial player I'm more excited for the Ups and Striker than a wannabe Lambda ;)

Looking at the little card fanin the Go Rogue article, the Striker comes with an elite upgrade that is unique (has a dot before the name). I'm trying to think about the last time we got a unique elite upgrade.

Lone Wolf is the last one I know of. A bit behind the times so I am probably wrong.

Lone Wolf, A Score to Settle and Bodyguard are the only unique EPTs so far.

Ah! So if for no other reason this will make the Striker noteworthy.
