nightwishpower 0 Posted November 15, 2016 I have 2 questions -can you use stay cat on a monster engaged with an other player?-when using cunning distraction, do ALL monsters in the location are evaded? (even monsters engaged with other player) Thank you very much
Gaffa 673 Posted November 15, 2016 In both cases the answer is Yes, because the cards do exactly what they say they do! Have fun evading!
General Zodd 459 Posted November 16, 2016 In both cases the answer is Yes, because the cards do exactly what they say they do! Have fun evading! Really? I read it as an automatic evade, as if it were an evade action, and as you are playing the card, that would only work for you in either case. I would expect it to specify 'another investigator at your location' if you could do it on someone else's behalf?
Gaffa 673 Posted November 16, 2016 Both cards let you evade "a" monster at your location (well, Cunning Distraction lets you evade *all* enemies at your location). That does not limit you to enemies engaged to you. Just like you Elusive lets you move to "a" revealed location, which means you can move farther than 1 space if you want to. The cards are doing what they say they do. All of the above have been confirmed by FAQ by the game designers (see cardgamedb for more details). Don't overthink the wordings! mplain 129 Posted November 16, 2016 (edited) So the thing to note here is that both Cunning Distraction and Stray Cat have the word "evade" as part of general rules text and not as an action designator (in bold, like Evade). Stray Cat just tells you to evade an enemy as a card effect, and since it's not an action designator, it's not bound by generel rules that apply to the Evade action (also the Cat's ability is a free action, which is important here as well). Cunning Distraction uses the word "evade" both as an action designator (which means that general rules apply: playing this event doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity, and is subject to the effect of Frozen in Fear), and also as general rules text (non-bold) so that it's not restricted to engaged enemies only. In a similar vein, if a card would say "Move." as an action designator, you could only move to a connecting location. But if a card says "move" as part of its general rules text, you could move anywhere.
