Iksentrik 108 Posted November 15, 2016 Sorry yes engine as well with a ptl Ryad comes in at
SDCC 599 Posted November 15, 2016 Ryads damage output is great with PTL, MK2, X7 she has TL, focus and evade every turn. She's perfect in that build. I've flown Ryad like that quite a few times and it's very good. Just fancied trying something different. If it doesn't work out I'd take her back to the normal build. ArbitraryNerd 1,009 Posted November 15, 2016 So would RAC with hotshot, gunner, issard, vi be the preferred choice leaving no initiative bid? As there's nothing you're really competing with in terms of bid, barring other Ryad/RACs, yes. Hotshot and Isard is pretty dirty, it should keep RAC alive decently well against most lists. I may have to try something like this (... but I'll swap Ryad for something else. Maarek, or go off the Defender path, maybe).
Iksentrik 108 Posted November 15, 2016 If you do maarek putting in palp might help his ability happen more?
ArbitraryNerd 1,009 Posted November 15, 2016 If you do maarek putting in palp might help his ability happen more? His ability is more of a bonus if it triggers. Put too much into it, and you'll realize how getting to choose from three different crits is often not worth the effort. At worst, I'd slap Predator on him, but I prefer Juke as, if I roll a natural crit, it is slightly more likely to go through. Honestly, I'm probably going to want something that can do work while not backed by the Decimator. A Deci-Palp is Enemy Number One, and can be burned done relatively quickly, by many lists. In general, there are still things that can burn down a Deci quickly, even a VI/Engine RAC. For those matches, you want something that can survive without him. PtL (or LW, I suppose) Ryad isn't a bad option at all. I just know that all of my opponents have gotten a crash course on how Defenders fly, so I prefer ones that don't mind getting blocked. I'd love to find room for Whisper or Echo (you could drop Isard and fit a solid Echo in, I think), or just go for Fel, so you have answers for turrets/TLTs. 1 Iksentrik reacted to this
SaszaPL 75 Posted November 17, 2016 Ryads damage output is great with PTL, MK2, X7 she has TL, focus and evade every turn. She's perfect in that build. I'd personally go this route as well, as I don't care for Lone Wolf (even in a two ship build), but it depends on how you fly. I actually don't use Ryad, because I only prefer her with PtL, and I tend to fly my Defenders into situations where they are likely to bump -- a Juke carrying, x7 Vessery really isn't all that upset about bumping an enemy -- I'm not wasting any points on my upgrades, and he's likely still getting the benefit of TL, Juke, & an Evade. It's a nice tactic, because your opponent generally won't expect you to take an obvious bump. Smashing into things with Ryad is inefficient. I prefer to be able to modify my dice with abilities other than actions. If you use PtL and opponent is able to put another stress on you, you are in a very bad situation with only 1 evade and no other modifiers. With TL you will re-roll up to 4 dice (in R4), but usually just up to 3. If you seriously consider using Focus token on attack, then it is VERY unlikely that you will need to reroll all 3 dice. I find my 1 blank reroll to be not enough in some cases only because I do not like to spend focus token too early
