Captain Rex Crew

Wow, compare Rex to this one:

- costs 1 point more

- affects not only the ship carrying the crew but also every ship in range 1-2

- triggers for every missed attack at range 1-2

- allows to assign tokens to a ship at range 1-3 of the failed attacker, including the attacker and can be used to give focus to ships that hasn't attacked yet

 

I think that this card is probably going to find it's way into more Rebel squads than Imperial ones with all the ways they've got to bank the tokens or do other things with them.

That Janky combo of R3 and Rex that was mentioned earlier would still be janky with R3+Operations Specialist but is a bit less so since it can pass the token to any friendly at range 1-3. 

 

It still sucks though.

Ya it's things like this that really confuse me about FFGs playtesting and ability development. Yes, this costs a point more, but it is so, so, so, SO much better than Rex that it's almost incomparable. Like, how could someone not look at these cards and say,

 

"hey, so... these two cards have similar triggers and effects, except this one can also do this, this, and this. Are we sure all of that bonus stuff is worth just 1 point? No? Ok, then either we need to raise the price, or lower the price of the other card."

 

Rex at 1 point? Not great still, but, hey, at least in that case he gets the "I have 1 point left guess I can fill that slot with this cheap card" bonus.

If this card is going to be in more Rebel than Imperial squads, then how come it comes in an imperial ship?

If you want him for gunner, Luke is better because he leaves you with a second crew slot open.

If you want him for anything else, it's very hard to justify Rex over Ops Specialist.
