emmjay 319 Posted October 19, 2016 I played a game against a new player this past weekend and he started his deployment by placing two squadrons instead of a ship. Now, up until this point I have always deployed a ship first so the squadrons know where the range 2 is for their deployment. While not a huge deal, I was unable to find where I could have sworn I saw that a ship always deploys first. Any help here?

So a ship must be placed first. Otherwise, where are you measuring Distance 2, to? ... The Rules Do not say "A Ship Must Be Placed First." It doesn't have to... You just have to have a ship on the board to know where to place Squadrons.... Page 10, RRG, "Setup" 6. Deploy Ships: Starting with the first player, the players take turns deploying their forces into the setup area. A single deployment turn consists of placing one ship or two squadrons. ◊ Ships must be placed within their player’s deployment zones. When a player places a ship, he must set its speed dial to a speed available on its speed chart. ◊ Squadrons must be placed within distance 1–2 of a friendly ship and may be placed outside of deployment zones. I think the LTP guide says ships first. Also the RRG might say it in the set up section. I'm at work so I can't double check...
