Ratios of cards to dice

Recommended Posts

So I'm starting to get worried how many legendaries will be in a booster box. Since the only have 36 boosters per box. 17 Legendaries in the first set and all sorts of different dice. You would need two boosters just to get a chance at having all of the dice. So where I was orginally going to just buy two boosters. might it be better to pick and choose singles.....
It just isn't as much fun.

I have one box on order for the "Fun" part and am hoping I get at least 1 of the cards I want. Then I will single from there very sparingly.

In all honestly, I am not worried about it because I know I will almost always end up buying a single booster any time I go to Target or whatever, because whatever it's $3. By not simply singling every card in the set, and only the ones I absolutely will have to have to put together whatever competitive deck I plan on using, I anticipate it will keep the excitement of opening them pretty fresh.

At Gencon someone stated a legendary will be around 1 in 6 packs, so around 6 per box or 3 boxes for a chance at a complete set.

But it will most likely be more, cause the chance of no dupes is very slim. Unless of course, you want duplicates, then you could be looking at upwards of 8 boxes to account for getting 2 copies of each combined with average levels of waste rares.

The sweet spot is approximately 3 booster boxes.  From there, it would "probably" be cheaper to buy singles for the cards you will require to finish off what you want.

To net a perfect set of Commons, it will take 1.07 boxes with no dupes, with 3 per pack.

To net a perfect set of Uncommons, it will take 2.33 boxes with no dupes, with 1 per pack.

To net a perfect set of Rares, it will take 2.87 boxes with no dupes, assuming 5 out of 6 packs will have one.

To net a perfect set of Legendarys, it will take 5.67 boxes with no dupes, assuming 1 out of 6 packs will have one.

I plan on only playing Villain and I know a few other people in my area that are picking a side. I then plan on trading all my Hero cards with local players as much as possible. If you're concerned with the cost of the game I feel like that's a reasonable way of approaching it.

It really depends where the price point falls for singles once this game is out. What sort of general interest level is there in this game from the public? How well is that supported by retailers? Then the supply and demand fun begins.

It will be interesting to see where the expected value of a booster box compares to the cost of singles. I am personally expecting singles to be a bit pricey at the start as boosters have flaws because seven of the rares are in the starter packs.

but those rares will be nice and cheap

They are essentially a waste of a pull though. If you get a pack with that as your rare, you basically got a pack without a rare. The exception being the FO Stormtrooper

I think it was a mistake for FFG to have rare cards in the starter that you can also get in the boosters while also making it so you have to buy multiple starters to get certain cards.
