Those look amazing! I do have to laugh a little, though, at the idea of doing an Aurbesh promo for a brand new card, LOL! (I know, I know, they did it with SW:LCG as well.)

I wish the Rey alt art was alittle different than just "pose with lightsaber in battle stance", but it's still pretty cool. Maybe a "hand outstretched giving lightsaber to Luke" Rey would have worked better and then we can get a "staring Luke" alt in the future.

I like that the Aurbesh version is at least new art - both the EA from GenCon and the regular card from the starter are the same picture at this point (just like the art print up there for the launch party) so it's nice to see another piece. Also, I can't be the only one that notices the EA is sort of "light side" Rey and the new Aurbesh card is sort of "dark side" Rey, can I? (I realize both cards are 'hero' cards, I just meant the shading and facial expression in the artwork.)

Why does that launch party seem so enticing?! It sounds like a lot of fun! I think I'm burned out on tournaments, so the idea of just showing up and playing a new game sounds great!

This x 100. The old WotC minis game was like that, where the early events would have more than enough promos to go around, so it wasn't some cut-throat tournie. You could just go and enjoy time with likeminded and supportive players.

Sleeve the regular card behind and flip when needed. It's not like you have to keep the character cards secret.

Pro: Launch party sounds like a lot of fun!

 

Cons: 11-18 is the pre-release date? Oof! I was hoping, perhaps foolishly, for early November. Maybe this will give me enough time to talk myself out of buying into another CCG!

 

While the promo looks cool, it's a bummer that of the 3 promos available, 2 of them are the same card, and a card that you can only use 1 of at a time.

While the promo looks cool, it's a bummer that of the 3 promos available, 2 of them are the same card, and a card that you can only use 1 of at a time.

The pre release is actually Nov 18,19 and 20. Or at least those are the dates FFG recommends. It could depend on when your FLGS hosts the event.

I've really been on the fence about this one. The money aspect of CCGs make me hesitate. I'm also a new player with X-wing so do I really want to jump into another game so soon? The announcements about OP supporting events and the launch party announcement has just about pushed me over the edge. I like the idea of getting in "on the ground floor". I will never be the "gotta collect them all guy" although I admit the thought of buying the occasional blind booster just to open it up and see sounds like fun.

I've demoed Dicemasters a few times but never quite was my cup of tea. This seems just different enough to entice me.

I've tried to follow the threads but this is a question that I can't seem to find a definite answer to. Assume I'm supplying all components will two starter packs per side give be enough to have a game with full decks or will I need a few boosters as well? Of course the more variety the better but I'm talking for a beginning. I know that 2 starter sets will let me play the game but I want to know the easiest/least expensive way to give each player a full deck.

You will need some boosters. Otherwise decks will not be full legal size

 

There is also talk from a lot of people about purchasing 2 copies of each starter pack and creating a thirty-card deck from those cards. This gives you a more restricted pool of cards to build from so that the balance isn't thrown way off, but note that

1) people already say the starters aren't balanced, so I don't know if fine tuning each deck will help that aspect at all, and 

2) with the redundant cards you get from 2 of each starter, it seems less efficient to me than buying booster packs (but you just don't know what you'll get with boosters and the cards might be just as redundant as in the starters).

Most people, however, seem to be interested in 2x of each starter to get a complete set of the cards that are exclusive to the starter sets.

Thanks for the insight and clarifying my question. Basically it boils down to buying:

1) Two Rey and two Kylo

or

2) One Rey, one Kylo, plus boosters

The absolute easiest and cheapest way to ensure you have a coherent legal deck would be to purchase two starters of the same side.

You know that you are getting cards that are useable together so for that $15 there is a gaureentee you'll be able to put together a working deck. $15 in booster packs may not get you a coherent deck, or even a legal one. Say you have a Kylo starter but most of your booster pulls are Hero or Rogue cards which you can't include.

That said 2 starter decks while leaving you with something legal and somewhat coherent likely isn't going to give you anything good. Starter products are meant to be introductions they aren't designed for prolonged use, they just aren't typically built to that purpose. It's like playing the tutorial of a video game multiple times.

So 2 starters will be the most efficient way to end up with a legal deck that won't trip over itself, but a single starter each and say 15 booster between you will likely be better if you intend to try and possibly move forward playing. It is $15 more but you'll likely have deck building options

Bashing starter decks against each other too often is likely going to expose the fact that starter decks aren't intended to be balanced long term.

While I agree that the starters don't seem balanced, I think the addition of a second starter would help with that. It's basically going to give you a second die for Finn on the light side (yay?) but on the dark side you get a whole second Storm trooper. That's also going to narrow the point gap between the two builds to 1 (instead of 5 which it is currently). I think that's going to even the field a bit.
