In this way the hype died

Recommended Posts

I guess they are too busy building up more hype for the upcoming releases of Arkham Horror: The Card Game, and Star Wars: Destiny.

Don't worry, as soon as those get released you'll probably start to see a few articles for RuneWars: TMG (hidden somewhere among dozens of Star Wars related articles).

That's all, not any news since the first announce so the hype died.

No kidding. I check this forum about 20 times a day to see if anyone has anything new to say. But I agree with Zsig that we'll get more news after the release of Star Wars: Destiny.

That and there's only going to be so much to talk about in the core set or even core + wave 1, so it's not like they can release an article a week between now and release.

FFG knows how long it will be before the game is on the shelf, and know how much info they can release prior to that.  So it's a simple matter of doing the math for them.

They want the hype to build upto release day.  Not build up to a month or so before then and then have nothing new to say.

They kill the hype like this.

Kill the hype?  The hype doesn't do them any good if it dies out before the product is released.

They want the hype to get people excited and ready to buy the game.  If they run out of stuff too soon, the hype dies out a before the product is even released which hurts their sales.

The timing of things isn't really in their control.  Something like GenCon is exactly when you want to announce something like this, even if it won't be out for a while yet.  But you have to start building the hype at a point in which it will last until release.

You guys should check out the armada forums... It's like the end times over there. I'm over exaggerating..... Maybe

Even the X-Wing forums look like its end times if they don't get a new product announcement or preview article every week.

Considering the way and the timing the partnership with GW ended, announcing this game at GenCon meant only "beware, there's a storm coming, but WE ARE ON THE MARKET. A new force (in this sector of the market) with a new game that will be awesome".

It was the right moment and the right place to do such an announcement.

Embers are still burning, right? Hyped fans losing hype will have their hype sparkled again once they start pushing on the game. I guess if the game's out in January (or so), they'll start upping previews and updates end of October / beginning of November

They did announce it with the timeframe of 1st Q 2017.  GenCon was the perfect time to announce it.

From then till now, has been a major announcement for any other game of this genre?

That being said, I am hopeful the Core drops in time for the holidays.

From playing the demo, this game is worth the wait.  Also, we will be lamenting for our wallets when it drops... let's use this time to build up war funds.

Yeah, but the announcement of fluff/lore books would be good to get us started!

For FFGs press cycle the announcement was three months too early at least. Yes they said Q1, which means February or March and my money is on March. The rules were still early beta and the armies are not yet balanced. This was a rush announcement to show that FFG was not worried about losing the GW license and more than willing, and able, to compeat with GW in their own bailiwick.

We might, might, hear something during worlds but I don't expect any articles or press releases until December.

I don't think it has to do anything with GW. GenCon is a typical place and time for product announcements. FFG announced both X-Wing and Armada at GenCon with a predicted release of Q1 next year, just like RuneWars (X-Wing release was delayed to Q3, though).

RuneWars tabletop miniatures game with models that must be assembled and painted has nothing to do with GW?

This game exists only because FFG is looking to hurt GW by creating a game system in the model that has been dominated by GW for 30 years, and doing it better. This is 4 years of bickering behind the scenes finally boiling over as another partner / employee of GW breaks free to show them how a game company should be run.

RuneWars Mintures game has everything to do with GW.

No, this has nothing to do with that.  GW took back the licenses and refarmed them far before the announcement.  FFG has always skirted the line with miniatures games, by way of diskwars, all their board games, phone games, battle lore (in all it's incarnations)and then jumped in full force with xwing and armada.  Now that they have a stable cash cow, they can afford to try the harder sell, but possibly bigger seller in runewars.  This move would have happened regardless of the gw deal, if anything the gw deal may have pushed this forward on the time table, but it was certainly planned a long time ago.

Please read the post I responded to, then read my post again. I was talking about the timing of the announcement.

That's all, not any news since the first announce so the hype died.

But totally pissed of GW and that's what mattered... I guess?  :)

Did it though? If you have read statements of the old CEO it always seemed they don't care that much about other companies and how big a thread this is to GW remains to be seen because Runewars and GW games are different enough.

Something must have caused them to stop working together with FFG. They had a good deal going, GW lends out their IP, FFG makes the games. It would seem foolish to blow that up unless GW tought FFG stepped on their turf with Runehammer- err I mean Runewars the minis game. Or maybe ther is no connection between those events, but seems kinda odd to me.

Its probably as simple as them Re-opening their Specialist games Department, and proving that they could do Boxed Board-Games again with "Silver Tower."

I feel that, effectively, they'd outsourced the IP and License for Board games in the past because they were not equipped, unable, or didn't want to focus on it themselves.

Now, they can do it themselvesand make more money.
