Rules Question - Rey, Force Prodigy and Ambush Upgrades

Recommended Posts

Technically the ambush would trigger and resolve, then Rey would trigger then resolve.

1) Play Force Prodigy > card effect triggers > Ambush gives you a free action > resolve free action

2) Rey states "AFTER you play an upgrade....." so you have to resolve the upgrade, then you get Reys effect.

That's how I understand it.

I'd agree with thesug1.  Though in this case there's little difference (yet) since they are both resolving the same extra thing, but I guess it could matter for what you cancel and when.  If you can cancel the Upgrade that has Ambush on it then you would cancel both extra actions.  If you allow the first extra action then there's nothing you can do to stop the second extra action that I see.

I would be extremely surprised if they did not stack. They are triggered abilities coming from 2 different cards. Yes, the thing "triggering" them is the same, but that doesn't matter. It just means that both abilities are triggered at the same time. Usually in these situations, the active player can choose which ability is triggered first. It would be no different than if, instead of "Ambush", the upgrade stated "when you play this, immediately deal 2 damage to a character". You'd get the damage AND the extra action from Rey. So, with Ambush, you'd get 2 extra actions.

As for cancelling, since both abilities say, "After you play..." or "After playing...", I would assume both triggered abilities are cancelled, since the card trying to be played is no longer actually played. So, you either get 2 extra actions or none.

I don't think there is a "stack" in this game, like in MTG. So, first the upgrade is played, which is the first action, and resolves (or is cancelled in the opponents brief action window). Then the 2 abilities trigger. The active player chooses which to do first.

In any case, this is definitely a nice combo and one that should definitely be considered as a staple in Rey decks depending on the ambush upgrade.

Regular Ambush effects stack and this feels no different so it doesn't really feel like an "abuse" case. The main card in question right now that offers this is Holdout Blaster which due to it being ranged doesn't offer inherent synergy with Rey. Again not  a bad combo and let's you stack actions, do cool set ups potentially, but not in and of itself entirely disgusting.
