Wayward Stars (OOC)

Recommended Posts

I elaborated a bit in her backstory—including a possible point of connection for our clone trooper, if he wants it. :)

Ooooh yes please! Which part were you referring to? I don't want to post the full spoilers but I am assuming either one of the instructors or the rescuer yeah?

Either works! The latter is probably more fun—a bit more prior interaction—but whichever works for you is fine. ^_^

This I am liking! Get on that link to the past you two.

Do you have any idea about our starting point, so to speak? Will we be employed by someone? On the run? Do we meet by chance? Should we try to work into our backstories how we know someone else in the party?

Which sort of brings me to the group-resource-thing. Do we start with something like a ship? If not, do you have a firm idea where we start the game?

Thank you for the update on the blaster. I wish I had the memory of some GMs (like my Dungeons and Dragons one - she can remember EVERY weapon like it's nothing, her brain is ridiculous). As for start point and group resource - that's what I want to work on once we've got the characters relatively on point. You guys feel free to toss ideas in and around this, as it is your story. What I've had in mind was a mutual event occurring somewhere populated, perhaps an Imperial raid or a riot against Imperial tyranny which leads to a show of force, thrusting your characters into a scramble for safety and freedom. The villains I'm cooking up can be lent to almost any starter scenario, as I want to introduce a couple of them early so you have someone to unify against - as this always seems to be the great bringer-together of individuals!

As for a ship... Well I have something in mind. But as always I am open to any suggestions from you all. As far as I am concerned, starships are as much a character in Star Wars stories as anything, so no matter what it is, make sure you love it.

I cracked no fewer than three smiles at the background/history. Great stuff! For Motivations, maybe something along the Belief or Conflict lines? I can understand D-MB2's frustration at being relegated to a nursing role, and the baggage along with his past, possibly lending itself to our dear "Medic" becoming more than simply jaded...

Welcome to the thread, Arctanaar! And no, there is no such thing as being late, you arrived precisely when you meant to. As The Shy Ion has said, I may end up running parallel groups, with the same rough outline for the story, and see where the adventures lead you both. This could be somewhat amazing as you will be able to check the other thread to see what happened or how the A/B/1/2 team handled the moment versus what you did. The biggest issue here is going to be my free time! Throw up your character ideas please and thank you.

No worries, I can't remember half of it myself. I have a handy excel-file where I compile every equipment, stats and all, precisely to be able to quickly find something my players are interested in, or are using to dismantle my NPCs in an alarmingly efficient fashion.

A mutual self-preservation thing sounds great. Also, once you have determined if I'll be one of the players, and who else is on board, we can work on connecting my death-stick addict to one or two others. And about that time we can figure out the group resource thing.

Welcome to the thread, Arctanaar! And no, there is no such thing as being late, you arrived precisely when you meant to.

This makes me suspicious that Arctanaar might be a wizard...

Ok, let's talk logistics Shy. If you want to go to PMs so we can surprise the rest of the group later we can do that. I've borrowed some tie in from a mate's character we play together IRL, and he's excited to see a supporting cast member of his story given life. I know you're reading this bro!

Here's Mr. Crow's sheet - done in PDF format for ease of reference later. Unless you want me to do SWSheets, wayward? Let me know.

Ramani Fenn is all done. I decided to keep him as "just" a Charmer, no second specialization. Fancy gun has been upgraded into an even more fancy gun, in keeping with his former gangster persona. He still stinks in combat, but at least now he has a single rank of skill in Ranged (Light). And with all those XP I could snag (Improved) Inspiring Rhetoric, so strain recovery and boosts for everyone! (I sort of imagine this as an Oprah-episode. You get a boost! You get a boost! You ALL get boosts!)

The very end of the background might change a little depending on the circumstances at the start of the game, but other than that I'll wait for the GM's call on what players will be in the game.

Thank you Kymrel for reminding me we get an extra couple of thousand creds to play with. There's the updated sheet - just waiting to consult with Shy about linked backstory. It may be that she's too shy to talk!

Edit: Fixed some typos and clumsy sentences. Don't want to start off on the wrong foot with all that.

Got a starting point for Merline Aran, Sarathi Technition/Modder "bounty hunter".

Gonna transfer it to SW sheets later on, but she's agility 4 int 3 with high Mechanics, decent computers, a very good (if unconventional) blaster, and a bit of starship piloting, gunnery and astrogation skills. And her jump boots (35m altitude limit) have a fancy paintjob.

She still has a shipping list longer than my arm, but that's techs for you.

I apologise that I don't submit a more elaborate character concept right now (will expand on it a bit later, assuming that I do have a chance at joining).

I have a Human Executioner (2/3/3/3/2/3 for attributes, if that is relevant) who started to work as a mercenary out of necessity and began to slide further and further from the Jedi teachings. I see, however, that such a backstory could be cliche at this point, and would like to work around that. I also see that meeting old acquaintances from the Order might be a good reason for them to renew their adherence to the Jedi Code.

Hey waywardgm, i am not sure i understand if your response was an invite to continue building the charcters or not? meaning there be more than 5 players?

(i read here you were considering making 2 groups?)

Also, it would be cool to know which concepts are already "taken" and their roles and what is "missing"? I am asking because both my concepts were based around medicine yet it seems there is already a droid concept for it, so maybe if you still have place, i'll think of something new but i won't bother otherwise :)

(would you mind editing it in you first post if you already have players who finished building?)

P.s.  Is character "deep" roleplay encouraged or are we more inclined to the mechanical side of the game (i am getting lootey yo!!.... [yeah, i was totally going for the booty nuance *ashamed*] i just got paid! and it feeelt so good!...)

edit: from your explanation in the first post asking for more thorough descriptions i believe you are interested as do i for a more character play.

P.P.s  (cause 1 P is not enough!, i am sorry, i saw too much lonely island just now...) Will we be having space combats so it will make sense picking up those types of characters or squadron type of play or even mass combat or crafting ?

P.P.P.s I don't know the story in M.A.S.H and the redemption there, and you reminding me of Sabrina and her cat Salem made me feel really foolish with picking this name :) But yeah the dathomiri witch i was picturing is more close to the types of witches from the Witcher 3, a darker aspect though she is not a dark sider... or is she 0_0 ? A kind of witch that is beguiling and trades one life for another and believes in a force based in the living as was presented in the clone wars season 6 with Yoda.

Alright, I fixed my character sheet in order to bring it to the required standard.

Seeing as many of his teammates are going to either be former republic troops, sympathizers, and Jedi and considering that his programming forces him to not eliminate his squad and instead heal everyone marked as "Ally" I wouldn't expect any how-de-dos or happy smiles from our durasteel "friend".

Also, now he has an acute fear of mynocks due to his time inside Duros frieghters and a taste for freeform jazz, long with a belief that killing makes him feel more human and that being robbed from ending the lifes of his vunerable teammates makes him fell like less of a sapient being and utterly weak.

Embeetoo also has to deal with extreme seperatist prejuidice, but it really doesn't bother him in the slightest.

I also established his motivatations and obligations: "Adrenaline Junky", "At All Cost", and "Self Discovery" for motivations (though the first two will be regularly restrained due to his programming) and "A Score to Settle" and "Disgraced" for obligation.

I'll won't have time to get the character up on swsheets until tomorrow night at the earliest - may be this weekend.

Mechanically I'm going with Niman Disciple (as already mentioned).

Willpower 4.

Either Presence or Intellect 3, depending if I want to emphasize knowledge or diplomacy as the secondary ability set (still not sure...)

I'm still working out species but the more important stuff is starting to come together.

For Moral Strength/Weakness: Compassion / Weakness

He has a compassionate nature - fitting for a consular - but doubts the path he and the Jedi Order took in the Clone Wars and is overly reticent to be "aggressive" and is easy to take advantage of in this regard.  Not that he won't fight if violence breaks out (initiated by opponents or his allies) but he feels that such outcomes indicate failure and more difficulties ahead and he won't be pushed into being the first to choose violence (I'm still thinking about this - subject to change).

He still cherishes the Jedi philosophy but is uncertain how it applies in such dark times.  The Jedi are no longer peace keapers and they failed the Republic so he struggles with his place in the galaxy, society, and within the Force.

You are most definitely going to be in there, Kymrel. I think I will organize two groups, but will start off the first one with the people who have already more or less finished their concepts. It will provide a nice, even mix of characters, without too much overlap by the looks of it. Arctanaar may just be a wizard, I don't see any evidence to the contrary yet! Thank you for the updated sheet, it looks good. I look forward to seeing Ramani talk his way out of bad situations!

Thank you TCArknight! I will be going over it today, and would be keen to put you in group #2 after we've hashed out the other individuals who want to be involved!

That looks great, primusnine. I see you've gone for a sniper/sharpshooter look with the ghillie. What a cool item! I haven't seen it before this. Just remind me that you are harder to spot when using it, as combat in this will need to cater for your particular brand of stealth/hiding when it is in effect. Also I feel like I want to hug Crow, the poor old(young) guy!

I am going to guess you meant SHOPPING list, as a shipping list that long may need to be cleared with tumblr! If you're happy to link me that sheet when done, we will look at having you in group #2 as well, Rakaydos.

Not a problem, Arctanaar! You just put things together as you like and we'll go from there. No need to worry about cliches, if you want to play a character a certain way, play it! I am not going to ask for any changes there - only to try and fully realize all the fine details of anything you create.

Hi Metushelah! Please do continue, as I am thinking I can run two groups in tandem, more or less. I don't want people to miss out if they are passionate writers! If it's ok with you, we will be looking at putting you in group #2, along with TCArknight and Arctanaar, as well as Rakaydos from the looks of it. Hit those guys up regarding their ideas so far and see what you come out of it with. And I will edit the first post, that is a brilliant idea, ten points to you!

Roleplay will be the primary goal, yes. Mechanics are there to support the roleplay via grounding it in rules we can all understand, but the big thing for me (and especially so when you have all the time in the world to write something rather than ad lib in the heat of a live table session) is developing your character through their words and deeds. Little nuances can be so easily expressed in a line of text, and that's what I really look forward to here!

Space combat will definitely happen. It can't be a true Star Wars story without a harrowing flight from some hostile enemy craft, through an undoubtedly narrow escape route! As for squadrons - if you want to be the Ace Pilot/Hotshot Top Gun of a starfighter squadron, go for it! We have some house rules for making fighter combat less of a "one shot and you're dead" thing. Mass combat may occur, but that will be up to you guys to get involved in - as I won't be asking anyone to start off in large scale organizations unless they already want to.

Hah, sorry about that! My mind jumps to the first thing it recognizes (and I ended up rewatching some Sabrina because of it) so that was rude of me! I remember those episodes, and they were very cool. As I said before, the esoteric side of the Force isn't much touched on outside of Jedi = Good and Sith = Bad with all the connotations that brings, so having a more exploratory character would be wonderful.

Lovely! I very much appreciate the touches regarding the music, mynocks and mixed motivations. Thank you for getting so involved with the character, and I can't wait to see how our dear Droid develops as he gains more insights into everything.

I am loving the growing internal conflict I am seeing here, Jedi Ronin. Great stuff! I think your Consular will round out a crew of very interesting individuals, some of whom have possibly not had the time to stop and smell the roses; in the sense that they have been too busy trying to survive to even consider everything else going on around them. I can see your character being the moral center for the group - even if not all of them necessarily agree with everything the Consular believes in.

Alright, I will update the first post with the completed character sheets as they arrive. I am getting very excited now!

As for the "big event" that brings you all together, I have narrowed it down to two choices (more or less the ones above - I tried a lot of others but these ones felt the most "Star Wars")

Option 1 - an Imperial raid on a world you are all currently on for one reason or another. This world would likely be a more neutral place, somewhere like Ord Mantell or one of the Corellian planets. Ord Mantell has an advantage here in that it was never fully under the control of the Empire even at the height of its power, so having a large show of force so soon after the Clone Wars ended seems more than tangible. Ord Mantell is also a wonderful place for all manner of people to gather - so it wouldn't be too hard to get all of you there! Perhaps some were just passing through on their way to new worlds, or maybe Ord Mantell provided a place to settle for a time, a relative safety unknown to your character recently. Maybe you were there on business - hunting bounties or researching history, looking into certain "consumables" or maybe even looking to get work from one of the crime syndicates or other, more reputable industries. Huge, triangular shadows suddenly appear overhead, and the screaming whine of TIE Fighters drown out the conversation you were having as they escort landing craft down to main urban centers. Gunfire starts to echo down the streets, followed by screams.

Option 2 - a riot breaking out against Empire occupation on a world already under Imperial control. This opens up a significant number of worlds, as by 15BBY most of the known galaxy had Imperial forces stationed on planet. It would allow your characters to get involved in political movements that already exist, if you so desired, and would be a show of the disparity between a world that had once governed itself still trying to maintain the culture it knew while the stark ideologies of the Empire wash out all the unique aspects of the planet. I can see this being more akin to the Rebels TV series with the Lothal situation - a place already firmly in the grasp of Imperial rule but always looking for ways to escape it. One day a protest turns violent and many innocent people are caught up in the suppression of it, causing a whole new generation of anti-Imperial sentiment to arise. As above, perhaps you were conducting normal day to day life when this happened, and then the blaster shots began to ring out, and confused people started dying all around you.

A relatively dark start to a campaign, either way, but as I said - we have to give you someone to hate, and who better than the Empire, and in particular a Moff and perhaps an Inquisitor!

I like Ord Mantel as a planet, it has casinos! Also CR would love to get an excuse to fight openly against Imperials, though I'm worried he may get shot at... He shouldn't look too much like a stormtrooper what with his painted armor, of which the original segments are barely holding together!

Is there still room for another player? I've never played the system yet, but I've wanted to play it ever since I first laid my eyes on it. I'm a passionate roleplayer so the amount of ideas and character interaction/plot hooks in this thread has truly made me want to apply :-)

TCArknight, Arctanaar and Rakaydos hey there group mates!

Currently i would be most happy playing a sort of 'face' character. The most i am inclined to i either Wircka the Dathomiri/ Nightsister survivor/Exile (if we consider the attacks that happened on Dathomir during the clone wars) who uses the force to influence animals and sentients alike. Or a Hutt Entrepreneur trying to make a name for himself and maybe hiring most of you guys?

I haven't thought much on a background yet, but i will work on it today.

Is there any character you would prefer in your party between those 2 ?

I'd probably prefer option one—Eya probably would be much more likely to go somewhere neutral if she could. (And, oh dear, a possible Inquisitor. That would certainly get a reaction.)

Ord Mantel sounds like the place to go for a Balosar looking for gainful employment. Unfortunately it also seems like the place to go for thousands of white-armored Stormtroopers  :o

Hooray! Ord Mantell is the current majority vote. primusnine has messaged me, asking for city locations. And since casinos were mentioned, we will be starting off in the luxurious holiday destination of Worlport - the capital of the planet and home to many crime families and their gambling dens, both Las Vegas opulent and Reno low-class.

There may yet be a space in Group 2/B, unless Dengarboys gets back to us re: their ideas. Get in here with character ideas, friend! The worst that happens is we keep it on file and get you(r character) in at a later date. So hop on this loaded spaceship and set course for crazy!

I like them both! Hutts are interesting as villains (and I've seen my fair share), and the one "hero" Hutt I have seen was great value for being a totally arrogant fellow while having a heart of gold - under the many, many layers of flesh. Speaking of, flesh out those backgrounds more for me, Metushelah! Show me what makes each one tick!

Alright, apparently we have a small side venture between one The Shy Ion and one primusnine concerning a crossroads in the past, where their two characters ran across/afoul of one another. I have heard tell they may be doing some sneaky pre-session session with PMs to establish this background story. I do hope you two will publish in full for us once it's complete! I am also now very much looking forward to seeing exactly how many people try to shoot our dear Clone Trooper for looking remotely Imperial.

Right, I am getting through the introduction post for Group 1/A (side bar - do we call one of the groups Group 1 and the other Group A? I don't want to make anyone feel they are in second place!) so we can be off and rolling this weekend/next week once everyone has had time to finalize their sheets and prepare.

Note, and I'll make sure this goes into the opening post - we will be using Orokos Dice Roller, which I hope most of you are familiar with. It's a bbcode link capable dice roller that you can list names/actions/descriptions and such in, then get your result to base your re/action from. I have seen it around here a little now, and have tinkered with it in the past. Each dice takes the first letter - e.g. Proficiency (or Yellow Dice) are P, while Difficulty (or Purple Dice) are D. You then add in how many of each, followed by the lower case letter "e", with a + sign in between each dice type.

So a sample input would be 3eP+3eD for 3 yellow and 3 purple. Click roll, and voila:

Sample roll to illustrate the ease: 3eP+3eD 2 failures, 1 advantage
p-a-a.pngp-s-a.pngp-s.pngd-f-f.pngd-f-f.pngd-th-th.png

Highly indicative of what the enemies I throw at you will likely get!

Here's the "expression help" page, which has the info you need. Link to main page will be in the first post. Do make sure to register with either your username or character name so I can check back in the advent we need to do so.

Emotional Weakness question:

Weakness (the Emotional Weakness option for d100 roll 41-48 opposite Mercy) doesn't fit my character concept as well as I'd like so I'm going to go with Fear instead as I think I can use that better to encapsulate the characters weakness (he is afraid of doing the wrong thing which manifests itself as doubt, hesitation, etc).
