SWX58 - could this be the Partisan T-65, along with the fabled fix?

Recommended Posts

It could be part of 58 if 58 were a Rogue One core set with 2 ties or strikers and a Partisan Xwing. Or maybe it could be just a Partisan Xwing by itself for the release but they cant reveal it for some reason such as a pilot or two in it being very secretive unlike Red/Blue ace and Asty.

Apparently Saw Gerarra's militant group was called 'partisans' in some of the new, canon, novels.

And others have noted that there is a missing LEGO set for this release, as well as no LEGO set with Saw Gerarra in it, yet (while basically everyone else from the movie is covered).

Odds are good that this is Saw Gerarra's fighter, or a fighter his group uses, and Disney is trying to keep this one a bit clamped-down to leave some movie plot elements a surprise.  (IE., the whole 'no toys that had Rey with a lightsaber before TFA came out' - avoiding SOME spoilers for the movie)

That post does give me a thought, though - I couldn't imagine another core set coming out with an X-Wing and two TIE Fighters in paint schemes we already had, but...

I mean, this is definitely a new paintscheme for a T-65.

Hell, maybe SWX58 is a new core set.  Only not a Rebel/Imperial set - Scum/Imperial with a Partisan T-65 and two TIE Fighters (recall the TONS of regular TIE Fighters in the movie trailer - the trusty ol' TIE/ln is definitely a part of this movie, so...)

An interesting possibility?  (And maybe we could get a different color on one side of the range rulers for the Scum faction, then - yellow blasters, pls!)

Partisans aren't scum. They are loyalists to an existing regime.

Like Mandalorians?

Wonder what faction they'd be added to if they ever came to the game...

Yeah, those Mandalorians were sure fighting the Empire hard in the episode of Rebels where they appeared....

Sorry, but "partisian" screams REBELS. No way in hell Saw's group is Scum.

FFG is using the 'Scum & Villainy' faction as the catch-all for everyone who isn't Rebels or Imperial.

We don't know much about Saw's faction, so far, except what we have been clued into is that they are emphatically NOT part of the Rebellion.  The Rebels have a problem with how extreme their tactics are, ?maybe considering them criminals?

Which fits back in with that faction theme - from what we've heard, I easily see Saw's faction using illicit upgrades, and working with bounty hunters - while the Rebels generally would not do either.

From what I've seen, the partisans are part of the rebellion. The mandos definitely were not.  Still no idea where people are getting the idea that the partisan x-wing could be a scum ship...

First sentence on wikipedia for the partisans: "The Partisans were a group allied to the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War, led by the Onderonian Saw Gerrera."

I think Wookiepedia is over-selling that one line a bit.  "Associated with" would be how I would have phrased it, but it looks like we'll know a lot more, in a few months...

(In any case, to be pedantic, if they are allied with the Rebellion...that means they aren't part of the Rebellion.  You cannot be 'allied with' yourself, after all...  That's kind of picking nits, though - given how little we're so far getting on them from the movie, it feels like a significant plot thread that I think will prove how distinct they are.  At least the last trailer, specifically, make it look like Jyn and Cassian were trying to 'put together a team' by reaching out to people not working for the Rebels at the moment...)

The Partisans are against the Empire and allied with the Rebel Alliance but have more brutal tactics. The confusion is because we are used to thinking that all rebels were fighting under the same leadership but in fact the Alliance began as a loose cooperation between different cells and groups. Only after the Battles of Yavin and Hoth did all the groups come together as one fighting force. The Onderon Partisans used X-wings, as the Alderaan Rebels used X- and Y-wings and the Lothal Rebels used A-wings and y-wings and the occasional B-wing.

Scum and villains fight for selfish reasons, many worked for the Empire, like the Concord Dawn protectors, Rebels fight for the greater good.

No matter what Saw's group does and what methods it uses, they fight the Empire (definition of the "rebellion": open, organized, and armed resistance to one's government or ruler.), they fight for freedom. If anything, calling them extremist emphasises that point.

Well, here's an observation that may, or indeed may not, be related.

I buy the Marvel Star Wars comic books, and this weekend picked up a small backlog of them - the last three week's worth. being an issue each of Star Wars, Han Solo, The Force Awakens Adaptation, and Poe Dameron.

Each one of these 4 books has a prominent advert for X-wing Miniatures in it - inside the front cover. this isn't unusual in itself, I think most of the issues of Poe Dameron so far have had an ad in it showing off the TFA starter set with a bold "join the resistance" tagline, which makes perfect sense as Poe is in the set. It's more ads than usual, but the odd thing is that all of the ads this month have showed the old starter set, not the new blue one.

So, baseless speculation - might the blue one be about to be replaced? I mean, it seems very unlikely, but equally it seems odd that they wouldnt; be pushing the blue set in the comic that's all about T-70s.

Also - we know there has to be something else announced for Rogue Friday because every toy licensor will want to get in on it. To be honest the prevailing opinion on here was that we were going to have to wait until then to see the U-wing and Striker, and yet, we got the announcement on friday.

We also know that what places like Target will be looking to sell is Starter Sets (not expansions) and It's going to be a lot easier to convince the big retailers to take on stock of a starter set that's all about the currently-hyped movie. wasn;t there a post on here a few weeks ago about a big store clearing stocks of the blue starter?

So yes, I think there's a better-than-even chance that we'll see a third starter set (x-wing's model means that fully discontinuing a pack would cause players significant problems). there's no one very strong indicator, but there are a few "soft" ones.

It would certainly cause some headaches for specialist retailers and existing players, but from the POV of FFG it seems like the obvious thing to do. The alternative, an Aces pack or a new Epic, doesn;t have the same wider-market appeal (even if it;s the longed for x-wing fix)

I personaly hope they don;t and it;s just another small ship expansion, but I don't see that doing the numbers a Rogue One themed starter would.

Yeah, to match the wonderful work FFG has done lately on this game, the T65 fix will be here soon, it will be fantastic and bring the ship back even on tournaments... But it will be Scum only.

Next up after that will be the mining guild tie for scum to get us a tie fighter as well.  Eventually, they're going to just rerelease every ship for the scum faction and we won't even need those pesky rebels or imperials.

Ooo...not to get all philosophical but that is dangerous thinking. No matter what they do or the methods they use?

So, if they happened to get momentary control of the Death Star and point it at Kuat, the heart of Imperial naval construction, that would be excusable? Killing everyone on Kuat in the name of freedom from the Empire?

Hmph...Yoda would not be pleased. There is definitely a point where even the Rebellion would stop.

It sounds plausible. It is interesting to note that the Tie Striker has been priced dirt cheap meaning that they could feasibly have 2 generics facing off against a decent X-wing pilot in points terms.
