Secret Objective

Recommended Posts

I am trying to find some information regarding the Secret Objective fate card which reads:

If you are the attacking player, you may choose an enemy objective that you have not engaged this phase. If you do, you are now engaged with the chosen objective instead.

Questions:

1. Does resolving this fate card move just the attacker or does it include the defender also?

     - The wording "you" is sadly vague in this context and in most other instances never refers to your opponents cards.

        - Example: A quick Hunt reads: If this edge battle is contested and you win with at least double your opponent’s Force icon total, capture a target enemy unit committed to the Force.

"You in this example does not refer to both you and your opponent.

1A. If this only moves the attacker do strikes still resolve from the defenders engaged objective?

2. Does this start a new edge battle?

3. How are Fate effects applied? Do you apply their effects via their timing or do they simply apply to the original/new objective?

1. It moves which objective is engaged. It does not change which units (attacking or defending) are participating in the engagement.

2. No. After the fate card resolves the engagement continues normally with resolving remaining fate cards and the edge battle.

3. Effects apply per their normal timing.

Follow up question:

In what scenario is this card useful, If it simply moves everyone to a new objective what's the point?

1) It allows you to effectively get a second or third engagement against the same objective. You have to choose an objective you have not engaged this phase when declaring an attack, but there is no such restriction for resolving the effect of Secret Objective.

2) Your opponent has to block with incomplete information.

3) It lets you circumvent effects like The Secret of Yavin.

And, of course, the all-important follow-up to the follow-up, how is Trench Run involved?

Almost not-at-all.  You can use Secret Objective to direct away from Trench Run, but not to direct towards Trench Run.

4) It has 3 force pips. :)
