Storage!

Recommended Posts

I may have to revisit my storage situation too. My foamed out toolboxes are OK for waves 3/4, but that's it.

I think I'll have to invest in more foam and re-lay out my ships. Space utilization is easy when you know exactly how much of what you need to fit.

Those tuck boxes look like an option too...but I'm too dumb to figure out how to make them. :D

I am using Feldherr and am loving it. It is a bit pricey but before I got it I had bought several different storage solutions and kept having to upgrade to fit new stuff. I say buy the nice stuff the first time and save money in the long run.

I use the Feldherr storage boxes because I actually paint a decent number of my ships; I don't want to store them in bare plastic if I'm taking the time to do that.

Highly recommended if you care about preserving the quality of paint jobs, etc. Also, the mini feldherr case is perfect for taking a single list to events (unless you are running three large ships), and that's what I took to Gencon with no problems.

I use these for ships:

http://m.harborfreight.com/19-bin-portable-parts-storage-case-93928.html

There's actually a shallower one I use too for smaller ships. I don't see it on the site but I bought one in the store a few months ago.

I use these for cards, tokens, etc.:

I cut the foam inserts into the 1" thick version of this stuff with an Exacto/scissors:

http://www.joann.com/heavy-duty-foam-slab-1in-x-24in-x-90in/11178092.html#start=19

All told I'm storing a pretty good-sized collection (2Lg/6Med/20Sm/8SqPak or so, plus all the game's accoutrements) in about $70-80 of storage with ample room for up through Wave 4. You could do this cheaper without the foam if protecting your paint or keeping your stuff well-organized isn't a priority for you.

I did similar to Araedhel. I bought a plastic Toolbox with wheels on sale for $15

http://www.walmart.com/ip/26524588?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222227018164248&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=40872835592&wl4=pla-78765629072&wl5=9031055&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=26524588&wl13=&veh=sem

Then bought a roll of 1" thick foam and cut it to fit flat in layers stacked on top of each other all the way up the bottom section of the box, with custom cutouts for ships as well. I have my whole collection stored there, and a couple of compact bins in the top is enough to hold all the squads and game pieces. Range rulers fit in the top section when run diagonally across the top.

This way I have a safe, secure, and eminently portable storage solution for my whole collection for around $40.

I also bought 2 mini Feldherr cases second hand for $30 to serve as my premade fleet boxes, so I can store a single fleet for a quick pickup game or for easy packing/unpacking at a tournament. I figure the less money I spend on storage the more I can spend on ships!

This is exactly why my real, actual storage solution...  Is two cardboard boxes and a craft box tray.

Box 1 has all bases and stands.

Box 2 has actual models...  Which are all repainted, but sealed, so fairly durable.

Craft Box has the tokens and dice and such.

Cost was all of...  Nothing.  because I already had the craft box.

I just picked up this from one of the big box hardware stores recently: https://www.amazon.com/Plano-Molding-826-Rolling-Station/dp/B0009XCEUM/ref=sr_1_2

Each ship is in a tuck box thanks to http://www.sirwillibald.com/.  The ships fit in the larger compartment and the squadrons (also in tuck boxes) fit in the drawers hidden behind the top compartment.  The lid section is used for upgrade cards, ship and squadron cards, tokens, and other stuff.  The case is pretty light by itself and since the ships are plastic and are also light weight, it's not very heavy loaded down.  You can lift it with one hand.  There's a metal piece that goes down the front to keep everything from opening up so you can lock it if you need to, or you can store the metal thingie in the side and it still provides some rigidity to keep everything together while transporting.

I'll post this again from a previous storage post:

Really can't recommend the Stanley Click and Connect box enough.  You can add onto the storage with each wave.  I currently have the main box and 2 "click on" organizers and have all of wave 1 and 2 stored, which is the following:

https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-STST14440-Click-Connect-Organizer/dp/B00GSNB886/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1470681160&sr=1-1&keywords=click+connect+stanley

http://imgur.com/a/Mz6va  (images may not work anymore, can't check at work)

2 core sets (not storing all the fighters)

1 Victory

1 CR-90

1 Nebulon

2 AF-MK2

2 Gladiators

2 Imperial Squads

2 Rebel Squads

2 ISD

2 MC80

2 MC30

2 Raiders

2 Rogues and Villains

I have a 3rd click on organizer for wave 3 and 4, and I'm sure it will still hold wave 5 as well.

I don't have foam packed around the ships yet, but there's room, or room for Willibalds tuckboxes, which I've made a few of.  I highly recommend this case

I can't recommend this one enough:
https://www.amazon.com/Plano-Molding-5231-Organizer-Porsche/dp/B000HJ9514/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1470681681&sr=8-2&keywords=plano+organizer

I use the above for all my cards, tokens, rulers, and squadrons.

Then I use this guy:
https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-STST14440-Click-Connect-Organizer/dp/B00GSNB886/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1470681160&sr=1-1&keywords=click+connect+stanley

For the ships when I'm traveling to a tournament and need to play different lists.

Otherwise, I uses a magic card box for local events:
