Wait wouldn't a target of 48 and a roll of 40 be 0 DoS?

In DH2 you get a baseline DoS for passing the test, then resolve for numerical difference between the ten's digit of the target number and roll result.

I was about to come up with a white lie, but I think it's a lot funnier and more suitable for the characters to be so naive that Balthazar really has to watch out what they're going to say.

 

For what it's worth, though, this should just be a temporary condition -- but so far, they still have to be told to conceal their identity to everyone. They just aren't "street-savvy" to have that common sense by themselves .. yet.

An excerpt from Inellia's most recent post in her assignment with the Deathwatch. The Iron Hand Apothecary decided to use the loudspeaker to wake her and the two Storm Troopers up. Right next to an Imperium town, a couple kilometers from a Tau base. 

 

Inellia, upon waking, runs into the building, an shocked expression on her face. She faces Kharvox and in a quite but still clearly furious tone says, "Do you even know what the word inconspicuous means?! This isn't some orbital assault where you come screaming down in a drop pod in a rain of death and destruction! You are serving the Holy Ordos now; if you can't do something as simple as keep the loudspeaker turned off while we are in potentially hostile territory and don't want to be noticed I don't know what to do with you. You're more clueless than those two Novices the Inquisitor put me in charge of during my last assignment."

 

heh. 

 

(I think this is where Inellia's character is going, I'm having a bit of trouble balancing out her personality, but she's supposed to have a bit of a split personality anyway. We have the seasoned Inquisitorial agent, the zealous Sister, and bits of the young girl she used to be).

Octavious gives you quick directions to the Armsmen's chapel, it's closer to the center of the station where the security forces of Kappex Orbital bunker at. He writes a quick missive of introduction and hands it to Father Thorne.

 

"Now, before ye' are off are there any other questions ye'd like to know about?"

 

 

I think you should have a thing to hand to the armsman.
