Warhammer 40k fans, bad news... Matt Ward is coming back to GW

Recommended Posts

Out of curiosity, how many of us:

A) Are active in the 40k/WHFB community

B) Still play occassionally

C) Don't play but have kept their armies because they have spent too much time/money to part with them.

D) Sold it all and have no interest in the game.

I'm a D.

I'm E, none of the above.

I however find the strange GW relationship with their fans/customers fascinating.

for those of us not in the know, what does that mean?

Think of it like this: Miceal Bay is making a movie about your favorite childhood cartoon.*

*incase that didn't help: Mat contributed to the 40k lore in a way that 99% of 40k didn't apreciate. So it's no surprise nobody is rolling out the welcome wagon.

Ooooh, Robin .. you chose X. I think you meant F.

F is 'I don't play, but I collect chaos armybooks/codexes.'

X is 'I consent to giving Conandoodle all of my X-Wing minis.'

Sorry mate, but we have it in writing here .. I'm pretty sure it's legally binding.

Wait... you said he's comming back to GW...

So, maybe they'll stick him on age of sigmar?

Matt Ward on AOS. I wonder if two wrongs will make a right?

Didn't he quite because of AoS though I'm not sure he'd want to work on it.

Maybe...

Heh, that would be something. ;)

Matt: "These rules..what? combat bonus if you have a mustache? what? And I can't make these sigmarines any more OP... I quit!"

As a WHFB player, we used to make fun of the 40kers.  We would say that we play a game that actually involves tactics since their games just seemed to be about lining their units up and firing at each other.  Then again, our game pretty much devolved in that area, too.  We used to call them "round basers", but even now Fantasy went to round bases.  How pathetic.

I did used to play Bolt Action, the WWII rules that were developed by A. Salvatore.  They were pretty good...except had some glaring OP stuff (assaults).  They are coming out with a V2 rules and I will admit that I still have my 28mm Germans in storage.  I could play that again on some weekend.  I also have my 15mm for Battlegroup, as well.  It's much better than FoW.

Indeed it is Chadwick, and don't forget that all your Bolt Action  will be usable in Konflict 47.  If you aren not familiar with the new Weird WW II Alt-History system from Warlord, check it out. Some very tasty minis and rule concepts.

I am selling a lot of 40K, only keeping the army I play very rarely with my son.  All of my WFB minis have been switched to Kings of War, but the new rank and file FFG release will be considered. Seems to be a lot more to it.

I have to admit that I just don't see the appeal in the WW II alt history stuff.  I dunno....it just doesn't seem right.  I like the historical aspect of WWII games.

Inclined to agree. Got sick of WWII In the 2000s where every game was WWII.

Alternate History/nazi superscience can be fun and I love the 1930's pulp style but.. bleh.

I like the setting of Dystopian wars: Steampunk alternate history WWI (?) with rediculously over the top mega vehicles

And you get to play as the Belgians! :D

Oh, you would have liked to have known me in person.  I grew out of WH a long time ago, I had a 3rd edition 40k and fantasy Chaos rule books and going up to almost current editions.  I just didn't want them anymore and threw them out.  I just didn't like the universe and I didn't like the effect I see it has on most people I know, or still run into in various places in the world.

You don't seem to be evil so I would have let you have them...

Oh you might like the new Robotech stratigy game that came out.  Those models from palladium books are AMAZING!  They live in a grim dark universe too, half the stories humans lose and nearly have their whole population wiped out in secondes.

In the grim dark future their is only... Tommy Yune, the Asian Matt Ward!  Seriously they probably hang out and have bbqs with their fans and contemplate how they will cause the older fans to have strokes with their new stuff.  Although I guess Robotech vs Voltron wasn't that bad...

Sweet! It's ok tough! I started with the realm of chaos books! ;) For 40k I think I have all the chaos codexes from 2nd to now. For fantasy I have all the armybooks 4th edition and up  (including age of sigmar), except for the 3d and 4th ones that came with the boxed sets. But I have PDF scans of those, aswell as the ones for 40k epic and the forge world Horus Heresy stuff.

Last I checked, there are still some local guys that haven't gotten all their Kickstarter stuff yet.

Still....I'm just not so interested in those WW Weird games.

Matt Ward better keep his bloody hands off my orks.

I dunno, I think Orks would get a good codex out of him.

So would Guard.

He can't really screw up the fluff for either of these, and both need a small power hike.

I'd want him away from lore heavy* armies like Necrons and Chaos, but even then, chaos could do some horrible things to Sororitas...

This said, the last ork codex I read had some of the best fluff ever, you know with the orks on the daemon world near the cadian gate, and the time travelling ork who killed himself to get a spare of his favourite gun...

*Not to say that Orks are light on lore or shallow, but I feel that Eldar, Necrons and Chaos are the unholy trinity for 40K lore, and should be handled carefully and brilliantly.
