Warhammer 40k fans, bad news... Matt Ward is coming back to GW

Recommended Posts

for those of us not in the know, what does that mean?

Matt Ward is rather infamous among GW players as being responsible for some of the most atrocious butcherings of background and some of the most blatantly OP rules.

Out of curiosity, how many of us:

A) Are active in the 40k/WHFB community

B) Still play occassionally

C) Don't play but have kept their armies because they have spent too much time/money to part with them.

D) Sold it all and have no interest in the game.

I'm a D.

Recently bought 20 White Lions, 10 Phoenix Guard and Korhil. Also got the AoS Space Marine guy on that weird drake/whatever, which I intend to convert into something High Elvish. So I guess I'm a "C".

I am told I still have the largest painted Orc and Goblin WHFB army in the state.  Maybe a couple.  All my minis have at least 3 layers of paint on them, including the hundreds of goblin spear shafts.  I've put too much work into that army to get rid of it.  I'll never get their worth back out of them and I'd rather keep them.

I think it's just the time and effort put into painting all of them.  Orcs and Goblins need a lot of minis.  They are a horde army.  They also have lots of options with Goblins, Night Goblins, Orcs, Savage Orcs, and Black Orcs.  I can field a full force of just Night Goblins.  Or just Goblins.  Or just Orcs.  I've got enough mounted Greenskins that I once did a fully mounted army at 2000 pts.

I made a lot of custom units where there are so many unique and individually done units.  Even just my best Orc unit is called Lug's Lootahs and each unit is a custom job. I have them looting a wagon in the middle of the unit.

Or all the other just hysterical details I've thrown into units, like this cannon ball:

Too much love and time went into these to just sell them off.

Fortunately I invested in a bowie knife and a war hammer. I haven't bought from GW in years and that is unlikely to change, given how disgusting the game is.

I do occasionally talk to ADB, and while we butt heads a lot over the Black Legion, he likes my warband concept based off the Anteccanis Massacre.

new death watch space craft is awesome, just screams 'aliens'

RE Matt, he's a nice bloke in person.  Sure some people don't like his rules but it always makes me sad when people get personel about friends and colleagues because they dont like an addition to a game of toy soldiers.

Not saying anyone here is doing that but it would be lovely if we could refrain from doing so if anyone was considering it.

My co blogger and best mate is Andy Hoare and he's a diamond geezer and you wouldnt believe some of the nasty stuff he has to put up with on forums.

I play 40k but I play almost entirely Rogue Trader and Necromunda rulesets and use pre 91 minis  :)

No. If you're really that bad at managing a fanbase, writing material that people spend hundreds of hours, hundreds to thousands of dollars, and disolving or diluting the quality and joy of that many people, you deserve it.

People forget Sherlock Holmes was to stay dead, until the author received several death threats and severe feedback. It's the same reason why quite a few relations officials lost their jobs when EA screwed up Mass Effect 3. Or why many of the EU fans still resent Disney for dissolving the continuity for mass pandering and botched stories to promote watered down spin-offs.

Hobbies are a serious matter, because people put more than materiel possessions and passion into them. Matt Ward failed the 40k community, and he and a few other writers need a boot.

Then complain about the rules.  My issue is when people make it personal and criticise the person by insulting them.. likewise deathtreats.

get a grip, its a game.  If you don't like some published rules *dont use them*!
