Learning how to Gonk

Recommended Posts

As the title says, I'd like to learn how to Gonk. I play casually, and just purchased the Punishing One. I also own a YV666, Slave 1, IG2000, and the Mist Hunter.

Should I pair Gonk with experimental interface? Am I allowed to stack shield tokens on Gonk? Should I pair him with a YV-666, or a ship with more green maneuvers?  Thanks!

Can I stack shield tokens on Gonk if I have full shields and don't need to regenerate them yet?

I always have been allowed to in my games, I assume this is the source of the always be gonking phrase thats been going around

You can stack as many tokens as you like, yes, but you can only recover one at a time. Pairing with EI works, but it costs 5 points and a stress every time you do it. Compare to R2D2, who costs 4 points, one slot, no stress.

I've had success with Torkil Mux in the HWK-290 with Moldy Crow, EI, TLT and Gonk. He comes in at 33 points, and he slots in brilliantly with a pair of Jumpmasters. If your opponent is shooting at Torkil, he's not shooting your Torp boats, so they get their ordnance off. If they're ignoring Torkil, he's knocking their big threats down to PS 0, ensuring they get shot with Torps before they shoot your boats down, and hitting them with (hopefully) dual modified TLT shots thanks to his focus back. And then in the endgame they have to deal with a 2 agility ship with what could well still be a decent focus bank and a regen mechanic.

Palob is objectively a better HWK, but he's also so annoying that your opponent will definitely target him early, preventing you from building up a decent focus and shield bank. Torkil sits in that sweet spot where he still has a good ability, and he can definitely make a difference, but he's not a big enough threat to demand your opponents' attention.

That assumes you have the necessary ships though. If you only have one jumpmaster, something like this might be fun:

Torkil Mux (19)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

"Gonk" (2)

Experimental Interface (3)

Moldy Crow (3)

Contracted Scout (25)

Deadeye (1)

Extra Munitions (2)

Plasma Torpedoes (3)

Boba Fett (1)

Overclocked R4 (1)

Guidance Chips (0)

Trandoshan Slaver (29)

4-LOM (1)

K4 Security Droid (3)

Zuckuss (1)

Total: 100

Sometimes I feel I've got to

<Gonk> <Gonk>
Run away, I've got to

<GONK> <GONK>
Get away from the pain you drive into the hull of me

The fire we share seems to go nowhere

<GONK> <GONK>

And I've lost my shield

<GONK> <GONK>
For I toss and turn, I can't evade this fight

Once I ran at you
Now I'll run from you
This shield damage you've given
I give you all a .png?a=bcb could give you

Take my shields and that's not nearly all

Yes on EI as you can Gonk once to take a shield and then again to add it to your ship in the same round with that. or use Push to do the same if you put him on say Bosk or Dengar

I thought there was a really annoying FAQ that prevented us from using the GONK card twice in the same round?

Not that I care because at my house we do what I say because Boba Rick is king, king, king.

It was an Email, not an FAQ.

And it was invalidated by the actual FAQ.
