And now in the world news: a coup in Turkey

Recommended Posts

This could be really bad for Europe, they were struggling with the migrant crisis before they made the deal with Turkey.

If things turn bloody in Turkey the migrant crisis could return tenfold, with the addition of the 2 million migrants Turkey was supporting plus any Turkish people who have to flee.

I hope the whole country burns to the ground.

That is incredibly mean and intolerant of you. I'm surprised.

Sorry, not sorry. I'm Armenian.

Great grandparents lived through the genocide committed by Turkey.

The Young Turks was the name of the political party that committed the genocide.

To this day Turkey refuses to admit it even happened.

Clearly the death of tens or hundreds of thousands of randomly-selected 2016 Turkish citizens is the answer.

Bridges closed, military disarming police, jets flying real low over city streets.

It looks like goat lover Erdogan's days are over.

Good.

Erdogan used to control the military. You would think that it is unlikely that this is aimed against him. And yet some news agency already reported that Erdogan was dethroned. Which btw does not seem to be the case, the coup attempt stayed an attempt, which suggest only little support from within the military and most forces staying loyal to their democratic voted con artist.

One has to wonder how genuine this is. *puts on tinfoil hat* I mean really, this is now the perfect opportunity for Erdogan to expand his position into a full-blown dictatorship under the premise of "national securtity" and people that would have opposed that now probably are in full support. Worse, it gives him even more of a reason to silence critics as "coup supporters".

This was either a huge mistake or staged (which would be abominably sickening given the amount of victims). I honestly can't imagine how the military wanted to restore human rights while going directly against the majority of people. With this they only strengthen the stockholm syndrome a lot of Turks have with Erdogan.

I read a few days ago some crazy doomsday profets said the world was gonna perish by the 29th of this month.

At the rate things are going, I might start to believe that...

I wanted to like this, then realized I probably shouldn't...;)

They were withdrawing Non-Essential personnel a while ago.  Personally I think they should never have been allowed into the EU/Nato and Russia can have them.

They are not in the EU, and this will hopefully set it back a long long while.

The Nato membership probably came in handy during the Cold War, though it did bring us to the brink of nuclear extinction.

But Russia should not have them, it seems inevitable at this point though.

They are in the NATO because the united states wanted nuclear missiles against russia while russia had non against the united states. Remember the whole cuba crisis, etc? All started with american nukes in turkey bases aimed at moscow. ;-)

And they have little to zero chance to get into the EU either, but it is a nice handle to kept them doing what we want … well or used to be, Erdogan is since at least 10 years fed up with that angle and realized that the EU would leave him hanging for another 50 years if they can. With greece in the EU turkey "never" will be.

The most interesting thing about this coup is that Erdogan had already a list with thousands of judges ready to remove who were in allegiance with the attackers. Another list with "all" military leaders responsible and the simple fact that the air strikes did little to no damage, failed to hit his hotel in time or even at all, did little to no damage on his palace as well and the whole coup was completely incompetently planned. The timing was off unlike all previous coups in turkey, people have been still on the streets and they were not even able to intercept Erdogans flight while having air superiority with their fighters. It smells so fishy. And now we get a lot of new funny powers to Erdogan.

"Turkey's President Erdogan cites 'Hitler's Germany' as example of an effective form of government", was a thing in the press a while ago, and speaking of that 27 February 1933 worked in similar ways. So the investigation from independent journalist might be quite interesting. (Not saying that there is something to find, but it is worth looking very closely into the backgrounds behind the coup)
