Admiral Nelson speaks!

Recommended Posts

On my Armada Tactics news channel I received an interesting comment. I got a comment from good ole Admiral Nelson! He has apologized not only to me but wanted the community to know that he was wrong.

Now, while I am happy that he has been open with that, I do wish that he would of done this himself.

Thoughts?

Late to the party.  I take it I missed some interesting, if unneeded, drama?

Just do a search for "Armada is Dead" and you'll start getting Hits...

"Sheeple" too...

And yes, he is completely banned - You can't even access his user account page, which means it was deleted...

Thanks for the info. :)  Not really interested in reading up on the user.   Just curious as to what all the hubbub was about.

If I ever get back into gaming, Armada sounds like my kind of game.  (I used to love playing the old FASA Star Trek Starship Tactical Combat Simulator board game back in the early 90's.)    I get a sense that Armada is even more sophisticated than that.

He called Armada dead when wave 3 was announced, started several threads about that stated he was going to quit Armada becuase of the disrespect that FFG was showing the Armada community, etc, etc, etc.

Oh and he fought with many prominent forum members, called us sheeple, what else. . .

Well, as we all know, some folk just ain't happy 'less they whinin'.

Sounds like a lot of strife was stirred up.... and that's something that no gaming/sci-fi community needs.   There's enough of it with the whole "If you like X version of franchise Y, then you're in the WRONG!  You are not a true fan/real fan of the "true (insert favorite franchise here)". "

Ah, well... life goes on, and it sounds like life has gotten along here just fine without that kind of bantha puduu.  :)

Carry on, gamers!  Let the Armada's clash mightily!  :)

As a collector, and amateur CG model builder/animator, I am quite happy with the level and quantity of practical materials already released. :)

The Fantasy Flight miniatures for both X-wing and Armada are some of the finest I've ever seen, and make great bases for my hobby.

Can remember where I heard/read it, but FFG have access to the models and props form the films, which should mean they have fairly accurate models. I am sure there are some variations in order to make the scale work with the production processes, but for the most part there is a high degree of care taken in trying to maintain the accuracy of the models.

Disney hasn't erradicated the EU, it has simply been relabeled as "Legends".   Means it's not canon.  That's all. :)

I explained it like this one time:

Imagine someone in the SWU having an interview with Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles  (sometime after the destruction of the second Death Star)   about the creation and exploits of "Rogue Squadron".

Luke or Wedge might answer inquiries about RS's exploits like this:

LUKE:  Well, we did form a Rogue Squardron, but that was just the name of our snowspeeder unit during our short stay on Hoth.  There had been stories going around about how Wedge and I formed this "elite" fighter squadron by the same name, consisted of the top --- what was it, Wedge?-- One percent?  Two percent?  Ten percent?

WEDGE: (laughs)  We had enough for a percentage?   Wow!

LUKE:  (chuckles)  Yeah.   Isn't that something?   Sure, the Alliance was growing, but we still had a largely cobbled together group of fighter pilots from the Galactic Core all the way to the Outer Rim.    We didn't have the Empire's numbers.    Every pilot we had.... every soldier we could recruit was worth more to us in the Rebellion than all the stormtroopers in the Empire.    The loss of a pilot or a solider diminished us greatly.    So as you can see, with meager numbers like that, we couldn't afford to just make these "elite" or "special operations" units that could "do the jobs no ordinary solider or pilot could do."

WEDGE:  But the thing is, those stories, thought up by some pretty imaginative beings out there, kinda helped the Alliance in ways we never imagined.   Such stories actually inspired others, even if they had no ties to the Alliance, to stand up to the Empire.   To fight.  To rebel in whatever way they could.   Pretty soon, the spirit of freedom was rekindled into a great fire across the galaxy.    These "Legends" that people were coming up with had bolstered courage among the thousands of thousands of worlds in the galaxy.

LUKE:  Such legends could be dangerous, but the good that they were doing was undeniable.  Who were we at the time to debunk or stop these stories from spreading.  If it helped our cause, so much the better.

WEDGE:  And help the cause it did, in ways we could never be more thankful for.

LUKE: Between belief in those legends, and a restored belief in The Force....the Empire's fearsome influence was waning.

That's how I reconcile the EU, Legends, decanonization of those things. :)

Besides, take heart.... ships that may be considered EU before have apparently shown up/been showing up in the animated shows "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels".   When that happens...guess what?   They become canon!  :)
