Oh, and just because British Politics isn't enough of a laughing stock, today there was the Chilcot Report.

 

What's that and will looking it up make me sad?

 

 

Probably, it's about how the UK had no basis in going to war with Iraq in 2003. 

- not all peaceful options had been exhausted

- there was no imminent thread

- there was no plan for what would have to happen after Saddam was removed

- any intelligence acted upon was flawed to say the least

- Blair had been advised by everybody that the US plans were inadequate

 

So here we are, tens of thousands of dead people later and the Middle East in shambles thanks to a power vacuum that has been filled by ISIS, strengthened by Baath generals. But at least Saddam is gone, so there's that.

- Italy's banks are on the verge of collapsing, with government bailouts prohibited by the EU and 30% of the bad debt on their books. 

- Spain has just had a second consecutive election and is having severe problems in getting to grips with the fact they are no longer a two party system. This whole coalition-making is alien to them. Also still suffering from a high unemployment rate

- Austria is headed for a new president, one of the candidates has already called for an Öxit, an Austrian Exit referendum

- Who knows what Turkey will do

Labour doesn't need a new leader, it needs new MPs, but it can't get them unless there's a General Election, would be my only quibble.  But I am just a tiny bit biased on that point.

 

And yes, Britain is like a living episode of The Thick Of It at the moment and it's not getting any better.

Well, the do-over petition has been officially killed off:
