FFG bring N1-Starfighter to X-Wing.

Recommended Posts

They don't need a full army as they are a peaceful planet with no civil wars going on or anything.

They do however need to protect important people like their queen or senator when going about the galaxy. Hence why they made a capable yet elegant starfighter to escort their transports.

Plus it's not like they kept a large fleet of them. Just a few squadrons at most.

It's just "hence", not "hence why". The "why" is included in the "hence", which means "that's why".

Anyway, it's only the humans on Naboo that didn't have an army, the planet as a whole had a grand one.

I took that as meaning by refuelling them between jumps.  It does the job of the tanker.

Hmm, I always thought hence was connected more towards where than why such as 'get thee hence'. I figured that in the case of starting the sentence it was a stand in for wherefore.

In any case, the Naboo and Gungans weren't BFFs until Handmaiden Padme gave Boss Nass' ego a good massage. Could be that they figured the Gungans would do the heavy work in order for the Naboo to keep their nails clean, but it wouldn't be a smart thing to make a frenemy part of the foundation of your defense.

It just strikes me as strange that a pacifist nation would put resources into a high powered fighter when that money could be spent on the queen's wardrobe instead. I mean Switzerland is usually neutral on matters, which is not quite a pacifist government. But it also had an armed populace and a military that could jump on the opposing side's bandwagon to enforce that neutrality. True pacifists usually fall into the lines of monastic orders that tended to hide behind thick walls and bolted doors and hope that the mean people with the horns on their hats would get bored and go find easier prey.

There's also a large grey area when it comes to the fighter's capabilities. It seemed to do well enough against the damp paper droid fighters and the odd TIE that it caught off guard, but against anything with shielding it seemed as if only the presence of some kind of chosen one would actually put a dent in things as not even the N1's torpedoes seemed to make a dent against the exterior of the droid control ship.

Ah, that's a different, but still very good, hence. I like old words!

Yeah, from the film I assumed the N1 was mostly decorative, but people seem to have sources suggesting otherwise. I acknowl she it's better than a droid/TIE Fighter; but that's not saying much. Mind you, maybe they thought "if we're going to make a fighter for the Queen then it better be a bloody good one!" - the symbolism of it being a rubbish one would be a bit pants!

If it reflects technological development improving weapon power by fifty percent in twenty years then a hundred years ago their ships must have had basically no weapons at all!

Wrong. The Weapon stats are a relative number compared to ships from the civil war.

A ship centuries old could very well have weapons and still have 0 Attack because the weapons couldn't punch through civil war era shields.

Dude, the Republic is thousands of years old.  If technology has been advancing at a rate like that then they wouldn't exist in corporeal form.

And again nope:

Dreadnaught Class heavy cruisers were a century old and were no match against comparable vessels of the rebellion era until they were retrofitted.

I know the Republic is a bit more than 25k years old (1000 if you count the Ruusan Reformation) and the moved mostly on a tech plateau. Conflicts boosted the development of newer tech. And the recent tech of the civil war is much better than CW era stuff. Not so much that it becomes obsolete but still significantly better.

I took that as meaning by refuelling them between jumps.  It does the job of the tanker.

"previously [they] could only travel in small steps" "innovative recharge sockets" "carry it's own escort through hyperspace"

Sounds like a metaphorical carry, meaning support.  "Recharge sockets", not "docking clamps".

And as you quote - they could travel in smalls steps, as in jump to a nearby system, recharge, jump on, etc.  Now they can jump in the direction they want to go, charge in deep space thanks to their escort, and thus take a faster, more direct route.

This debate is really moot, they don't need to be carried like TIEs do.

"In accordance with Naboo custom for diplomatic ships, the barge was unarmed, instead relying on its high speed, powerful shields, and fighter escort to escape enemy fire. Because of the limited range of most escort fighters, the barge was equipped with four under-wing recharge sockets for use by N-1 starfighters during long voyages."

Okay I see it now, if they just have to be in contact with the Yacht  to jump with it and for it to be the only Hyperdrive needed, then they would not only refuel but not have to spend any fuel on their own jump.

No, it literally says they travelled with a tanker before the new innovative recharge sockets,

I wish you'd include quotes when replying so I get notified!

Fair enough, it just eliminates the need for the tanker then.  A recharge socket still isn't a docking port.

But look at the flimsiness of the connection, and with them facing in the direction of travel too!  They can't be supposed to be carried like that, just recharged.

I agree with you it's flimsy, but a hyperdrive jump doesn't require any speed as I understand it, you're thinking of it as movement in an atmosphere or gravity, which it isn't. They jump in, they jump out, it's hyperspace not warpdrive. I doesn't need serious momentum to make the jump.

When you come out of hyperspace you have forward momentum.  Can't find a clip that just shows the Falcon arriving at SKB.

Obviously we're making that age old mistake of applying sense to Star Wars :P

Maybe you could check my math for me...

G= 9.81 m/s each second
A-wing Maximum acceleration = 5,100 G
9.81 * 5100 = 50,031
LS = 299 792 458 m/s
299792458 / 50031 = 5992.13
5990.16/60 = 99.87 minutes
1.6645 hours for an A-wing to get to lightspeed.

Er things don't work like that, it will have a speed cap, and the acceleration will get lower and lower exponentially as it approaches that cap. Hyperspace is space folding which is entirely different. It's only the Max Acceleration, not the Acceleration at all speeds... It's like a car might do 0-60 is a certain time, but can't do 0-360 miles/hour in 6x the time.

Since everyone is getting off topic....

Naboo ships that could be made as far as fighters and bombers, along side the J-Type Starship.

Naboo%20Fleet.PNG

As you can see, Visually the ships are quite attractive, with the exception of the two bombers on the left and right (back row is bombers) I even like the fighter that was the prototype to the N1 (front Row, left most ship), they each have charm and unique appearance which if you ask me, X-Wing needs right now, especially if you consider how many Tie Fighters we have

Set Ideas Based on Above

These are card ideas, not stats or slots FYI

N1 Fighter Expansion

1x N1 Fighter

3 Unique Pilots, 1 Generic

1 Astromech

1 Torpedo

1 Title or Modification

Diplomats of Naboo

1x N1 Fighter

2x Unique Pilots

1 Astromech

1 Torpedo

1 Title or Modification

1x J-Type Starship

3 Unique Pilots 1 Generic

3 Crew Cards 1 Diplomat Crew Card

2 Modification Cards

1 Title

1 System or Tech Card

2 Astromech Crew Cards

1 Campaign

Unique Campaign Tokens

N-72B Expansion Pack

1x N-72 Bomber (Middle Bomber on the image above, name created randomly)

3 Unique Pilots 1 Generic

2 Bombs

2 Torpedos

1 System

Heroes of Naboo Expansion Pack

1x N1 Fighter, Painted Blue

1x N1 Advanced (Middle Fighter on image above)

6 Unique Pilots (3 for each ship)

1 Unique Pilot (For the Advanced)

3 Torpedos

1 system or tech (For advanced)

2 astromechs

N-75B Expansion Pack (Left most Bomber) (name again randomly generated in my head) (this would be the Naboo's version of the K-Wing or Tie Punisher)

1xN-75B Craft

3 Unique pilots, 1 generic pilot

1 Crew Card

3 bombs

2 torpedos

1 missile

1 modification

1 tech or system

It amazes me how you often talk like you know something when you are so completely wrong:

1) "The hyperdrive was a type of propulsion system that allowed a starship to enter light-speed and traverse the void between stars in the alternate dimension of hyperspace" - It's an alternate dimension not "space folding."

2) You don't factor in friction or gravity in open space, so your car analogy isn't relevant.

For even the ETA-2s the tactic was to shoot through droid-fighters,

so I don't think judging the N1 for how it fought against droid-fighters is fair.

They may be following the prescribed tactic or just not have any experience

with them and chose to joust them to see how they move.

Well if you base it off of Starwars : Starfighter game, it is a solid ship, has a boost, and feels quite maneuverable. If you compare it to the other ships.

In Rogue Squadron is has the feel of the Tie Interceptor, in both speed and maneuverability,

That said, both games are highly arcade like, but thats not to say we cant consider it to be "cannon". It is safe to assume the Naboo Government Military upgraded these ships capability soon after the battle of Naboo, as well as increase the number of craft they have access too, hence the N1 Bomber Variation I brought up earlier in this topic. And N1 Advanced Craft.

If you are questioning the reason that they would bother upgrading the ship, The Battle of Naboo would have pointed out massive limitations in a massive battle, the surviving pilots would have given a ton of feedback and then there is always the pilots themselves making changes to there own personal craft to make it more suitable to there own piloting skills and roles.

There is no reason to not release a SubFaction for Naboo Craft.

It's very dangerous to use video games as a source of canon. Going by X-Wing, a single A-Wing can destroy an unlimited number of Star Destroyers with blasters only because it can easily evade turbolasers and the game mechanics allow the fighters to recharge shields while capital ships cannot. The Rogue series would have you believe that an A-Wing can crack the hull of a Star Destroyer just as easily as a B-Wing simply because the game mechanics allow you to pick and choose which fighter you can use for any mission.

I mean there's a 1968 Buick in there as well. In any case, all those games were given a lower level of canonicity even before Disney took over.

That math doesn't take into account special relativity. As the A-Wing goes faster, the amount of energy it takes to increase its speed goes up. Going to the speed of light would theoretically require an infinite amount of energy for any particle to accomplish. That 5,100 G is the maximum acceleration; the acceleration that the A-Wing can have under the best circumstances. If you don't have it falling towards a black hole or some other gravity well (i.e. in deep space) then that maximum acceleration would usually be at a standstill and would decrease as speed increased. However, there are engines that are designed to be more efficient at certain speeds (ramjets for example). Regardless of this, the energy curve of high velocity would make such things moot.

Maybe you could check my math for me...

G= 9.81 m/s each second

A-wing Maximum acceleration = 5,100 G

9.81 * 5100 = 50,031

LS = 299 792 458 m/s

Scientifically speaking, nothing can travel the speed of light because that would require infinite energy... The only reason light can travel that fast is because it has no mass. So if hyperdrive needs to be explained scientifically, when it says "lightspeed" that in fact needs to mean that the ship has entered an alternate dimension where mass, space, and/or time has/have no meaning.

Also, according to science, no ships in Star Wars should ever be able to slow down due to the negligible frictional forces in outer space and the lack of engines anywhere but on the back of the ship.

And also according to science, TIE Fighters shouldn't really explode either, because explosions require massive amounts of oxygen and the only oxygen in a TIE Fighter is the small breathing apparatus on the pilot's back.

So, really, Star Wars is completely scientifically flawed, and it's very hard to try to explain away the inherent scientific flaws! If you want science, watch Star Trek (maybe...)!

Case in point:

"Made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs" :)

For even the ETA-2s the tactic was to shoot through droid-fighters,

so I don't think judging the N1 for how it fought against droid-fighters is fair.

They may be following the prescribed tactic or just not have any experience

with them and chose to joust them to see how they move.

I hate that scene. Why would they destroy those beatiful ARCs when there are those hideous ETA-2s to shoot?! **** droids...
