Wave 9 Revealed!

Recommended Posts

Quickdraw + Baffle + Rage:

Action phase attack with rerolls on all attacks this round (potentially 4 in total), plus a floating focus token. You need Epsilon Leader or Wingman or something to do it every turn, but it could be an amazing turn.

Quickdraw + Baffle + Stay on Target:

Dial in a speed that keeps you out of bumps/trouble, then adjust for opportunistic shots.

Speaking of opportunistic...

Quickdraw + Baffle + Opportunist:

Shoot with 4 dice, and shoot again.

So the ARC-170 comes with an evade token, but does not have the evade action.  Guessing the R3 lets you swap a focus for an evade once per turn.  Which would make sense, given the ARC-170 comes with a Recon Specialist, but only 1 focus token.  Super looking forward to this ship.  Also, people can stop whining about crew/salvaged astromech, since this ship gets crew/astromech.

TIE /sf is pretty much what we expected.  PS9 dude man can theoretically pump out 4x 2Red attacks or 2x 3Red attacks each turn, for a few turns.  Good thing he has no shield regen.

Mandalorian Fang is a wanna-be jouster in a game that doesn't really like jousters much anymore.  Sure, some of the pilot abilities sound neat, but they sounded neat on Talonbane and we all saw how that worked out.  "But stream, this ship has the tools to get where it wants to go!"  No, this ship is going to suffer from the same issues that plague the Starviper and Khiraxz, just all together in one package.  Still, I'm going to grab a few just to mix with a few Scyks.  Make sure to paint them all the same and watch my opponent struggle to keep track of which ships are facing which directions.  It'll be a terrible list, sure, but it'll be fun.

Mobile arc is dumb while turrets are a thing.  Look at Sabine's card.  No EPT, and her pilot ability relies on the Mobile Arc AND having a focus token.  So she basically has to predict at least a turn in advance where her enemy will be, which is great with her craptastical PS of 5, or her pilot ability is useless.  And every ability with "While in your mobile arc AND primary arc" basically make the mobile arc not a thing either.  It's a dumb mechanic, but I'm guessing FFG didn't want to take flak for releasing two large base scum turret ships in a row.

I also have to laugh hysterically at the "get the abilities of all IG ships in your list!"

IG-A - sucky

IG-B - Shadowcaster has no Canon slot

IG-C - Shadowcaster has no boost (hello +4 points for EU)

IG-D - maybe it has Seignors on its dial?

So basically "This card was never intended for this ship, but we ran out of ideas so here you go!"

Edit: never mind that in regular play, you can only afford 1 IG ship after the Shadowcaster anyway!  Man, there has to be some other aspect they haven't shown, or this card is pretty much DOA for non-epic play.  (And pretty much garbage even then!)

It's a crew though, nothing ties it to shadow caster. Trandoshan slavers with IG cannon ability would be pretty good.

Can anyone tell for sure if that torp card in the ARC fan has an ACTION or ATTACK header?

Action would mean some things need to be talked about.

99% sure its an action
It is, but we have no idea what comes next and there is A LOT of text on this card. I think it might work like this: the Action on this card is to declare target of the attack (restricted to Range x-y within the primary firing arc) maybe also gain a free focus or target lock, but the attack itself is performed just like it normally would be, during the combat phase and taking PS into account, BUT you can attack even if the earlier declared target is no longer in arc and in range. It'd be an anti-arcdodging torpedo. Also the name, Seeking Torpedoes, fits this description.

Action: [Discard this card]

to choose [an enemy ship at]

Range 1-[3 in your]

primary fir[ing arc or at]

Range 1 [in your aux arc. It must roll]

1 attack [die and suffer any]

damage ([boom]) [or critical damage]

([kaboom]) roll[ed.]

Something like an auto-hit mine.

You are being annoyed about something that they did in the best way possible. You can't make a reference card a rule that doesn't exist. You would want an "ARC-170 shooting" reference card? That's not a rule. It's a bad precedent to have a rule that pertains to what you do when a specific ship shoots.

No, I'm simply saying that a ship-class reference card would allow the design of ships with more complex abilities, such as now is modeled by Pilot Card + auto-include Title.  It would instead be modeled by Reference Card + Pilot Card.  It's still two cards, so nothing is gained there but the latter has two huge advantages:

(1) It allows meaningful competition between Titles, which doesn't exist now because so many Titles are auto-include.

(2) It allows ships to be "fixed" by means of errata to (or issuance of) reference cards, which are updated in the FAQ, and which FFG has shown no problems with changing, in stark contrast to their incredible reluctance to issue errata (which reluctance, BTW, I mostly support).  In other words, they can re-balance ships without even issuing a product, if they choose, and anybody who buys a TIE Advanced expansion would get an actual balanced ship, rather than having to also obtain a TIE/x1 Title card.

He definitely died in TPM. Full stop.

No he didn't, George Lucas himself brought him back in the Clone Wars TV show.

You don't understand. It's really stupid. and I don't accept it. I really don't care if you think it's good or not. I just meant it's a shame I have to boycot Rebels now too.

Maul is one of the likely candidates to be the founder of the knights of ren as well, either has older master of the guy who turned Ben Solo or as founding member himself. So have fun boycotting most of star wars. How you can even call Mauls comeback stupid, a creature filled and fuelled with Dark Side Alchemy, while little orphan Annie surviving as cyberog does not raise a eyebrow seems ridiculous.

Star-Wars-Revenge-Of-The-Sith-Hayden-Chrd

Yeah, that is all which is left of Vader and the man still survived. And unlike Maul even without transformative darkside Alchemy, but purely based on will and force-healing until Palp arrived and brought the med-droids.

From a ship list standpoint I'm not exactly excited, but it looks like the meta is being shaken up yet again, so that's good.  I'll add them to my wish list for future purchase along with Wave 7, 8, Imperial Veterans and the huge carrier.

That's.. disappointing :<

Use an action and discard a card to perform an attack with 3/8 chance to do 1 damage and 1/8 to cause a Crit (not even under the shields)?

... and the Star Trek ship is from Rebels??

Yep. That ship doesn't look SW at all. :(

As I said in another thread, it is disappointing that ships that showed up for 20 seconds at SW Rebels are included instead of an EU ship that has a follow for the last 20 years.

At least, they did a good job in this Wave. I'm afraid they are trying too hard to make ships unique (overdoing titles), though.

Well, Gunboat for Wave X.

I am a great fan of the TIE-Avenger myself, but I can not let it slide that you diss the Fang. It a perfect valid mandalorian design which follows older mandalorian ships like the Kom'rk - Class Fighter / Transport.

Oh, I totally forgot about Gyroscopic Targeting card.  It does something with your Mobile Firing Arc during some part of the turn.  How much you want to bet that it will let you move it for free during some part of the turn and not take an action?   That way you can use Sabine's ability if you buy the upgrade.

So your idea is to issue a different kind of card that does everything the title would do, except take up the title slot. I understand the objection, I guess, but not the vehemence.

(1) It's not a different kind of card.  It's a reference card.  Those already exist.

My point was that it's a different kind of kard from the title.

(2) It does everything an auto-include Title would do, it doesn't take up the Title slot (which allows Titles to actually mean something and compete with one another), and it's trivially errataed, which FFG has no problem doing with reference cards.

Honestly, it would be fantastic if every ship class had a reference card, including retroactively.

That's what I meant: it would be a card that accomplished exactly the same thing the "auto-include" titles do, without taking up the title slot. That's a very small difference.

(3) The "vehemence" -- seems a little extreme, but, sure, I guess -- is simply from mild frustration at lost opportunities and failure to think ahead.  And it really is a failure to think ahead.  It was simply decided to do it by Title (with A-wing Test Pilot, I think?) ... and all indications are that once that decision was made, at whatever time and level, that's how it would be done always.  You yourself asked, effectively, how it could possibly be done other than by Titles, and my answer apparently came as a (workable) surprise.  (And that's particularly odd, because you must have seen me make the case before.)

You had a lot of emphasis in your first post, and you're hitting the point repeatedly--thus, vehemence. Ditto my surprise--not that you'd think reference cards are a solution, but that you're as upset as you seem to be that you don't think about the game in quite the same yaw the devs do.

And I do think you're conceiving of the rules differently than the developers are. Reference cards (up to this point, anyway) have attempted to describe universal rules concisely. Any ship that can use the boost action uses it the same way. Any ship that is assigned a tractor token uses the same set of rules to determine what happens. And critically, nobody bothers with them because they're largely superfluous at the table.

Upgrade cards, by comparison, describe something specific about the ship they're equipped to. Yeah, bombs kind of sit in the middle, but that annoys be precisely because it's feels kludgy to me and out of step with the rest of the game.

So yes, a reference card that applies to only a single ship would be a new thing, and it would (to me, anyway) represent a fundamental shift in the game's rules. That is, it would be a pretty subtle shift in how things are actually implemented at the table, but a big shift in how the people responsible for building the game are thinking about the game.

(Also, how do you square your thinking with the fact that the Slave I is one of the very first titles, and it's almost an auto-include?)

(5) There is exactly one reason to do these things as Titles ... encourage purchase of models people don't actually need.  And that's not reprehensible ... but if it's the actual reason things were done this way, it's definitely chintzy.

This might be the migraine meds talking, but I don't understand how including a copy of the title with every model they sell encourages purchasing anything more or less. Even if a title is an auto-include, surely there's no need to have more titles than ships?

I'm surprised and happy to see the ARC-170. It grew on me after I flew it in Star Wars Galaxies but didn't think I'd see it here. Disappointed in everything else. X-Wing is really making me hate Rebels. There was only a couple of old ships I was waiting for, but Rebels apparently just keeps inventing new ships to fill slots with (and it looks like Rogue One is going to make me feel the same way). Why can't they just use those to make old ships canon?

I'm not as annoyed with the Special Forces TIE. That deserved a slot sooner than later, it's just a really underwhelming slot to me. More of a "it's gotta happen" than "I want it to happen." Really wish they were okay with new ships in supplemental products and just made something like, 'First Order Veterans' for it.

The best thing about the Aux and Mobile arcs is that you have options. Options are my favourite thing to have in this game, not being stuck to one way of play. If you really can get your opponent in your front arc all the time, it's in your best interest to ignore your mobile Arc, but for the time you could really use a rear or side shot and can't K-Turn, the mobile arc is there. Same with Tie SF which I will be putting Accuracy corrector, Juke and Comms Relay on the whole time and trying to hit two ships like a mad-man, I will go for the big front shot if I happen to be in range 1 of 1 ship.

Oh my. That Juke, Comms Relay and Acc Corrector combo... :o

Well, once you figure out how to get the SF an Evade token, let me know, since it lacks the Evade action.

I believe that the Vector Thrust modification upgrade that comes with the Arc-170 gives both the barrel roll and evade actions.

If that's the case, I can't wait to see PGS's reaction. Now EVERYONE is an arc dodger! Yaaay!

True, my first impression on reading the release notes was surprised that they figured out a way to sell me yet another Tie Fighter.

I think the Mando Fang is going to do just fine, it's got access to Autothrusters and a 2-speed Tallon Roll, and we don't know what the rest of the dial does yet. I love me some Xizor so Fenn Rau is going to feel very comfortable.

Also Iggy Crew can go on other Scum ships, I would assume. Iggy B plus Mist Hunter Zuckuss anyone? Help get that TBeam shot, FCS a Target Lock, try again --> move someone in front of an HLC.

I agree Fenn Rau + Guri(Not a fan of Xizor can't really figure out why either) will be sweet!
