Grayfax 991 Posted May 31, 2016 2. we drive on the other side of the road to nearly the entire world but we still think everyone else does it wrong. Actually....everyone drove on the left hand side, or better, rode his horse on the left hand side. Apperantly, reason for this is you carry your sword in your right hand. Rumor has it some guys on the other side of the ocean with a wish for independence started to ride on the opposite side to spite the Brits and continental Europe followed suit. Not been able to verify this reliably ;-) Except if you go back to the famous British guys at the big round table, they made their approach to their opponent with their shield side, not the sword side. Which makes it odd that you switched in driving... 1 Cununculus reacted to this
Gadge 4,294 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) My god I would actually kill for a chicken kebab with chilli sauce... Or chips, Saveloy, fish and curry sauce wrapped in grease paper from a seaside town. Kebab shop down my road does and amazing chicken kebab. I have it on a big naan bread with loads of salad, really well done tikka chicken and garlic mayo and chilli sauce... oh and a jalapeno! As for firday night fighting.. really depends on where you are. Some towns are worse for it than others. Like a garrison town like colchester or a naval base town like portsmouth and you just have to look different /goth/ metal to get into a fight. Somewhere like Nottingham where i live its a town with two universities and a huge student population so its really laid back. When i lived in London i found people gobbed off a lot but rarely 'kicked off' as again there is the gun/knife potential there that you dont get in most cities. Dagonet 7,246 Posted June 1, 2016 And all because Brussels won't let us have really bent bananas. Ok, really bent bananas prohibited? My curiosity requires an explanation, please. It is a myth. There is (or was) a regulation that had some specifications depending on quality grading, but nothing that banned them outright. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commission_Regulation_(EC)_No._2257/
Dagonet 7,246 Posted June 1, 2016 You put eye stickers on your vacuum cleaners (hoovers), which I think is great! Still odd, though. Gotta love Henry! The level of fights that happen are pretty high on a Friday/Saturday night. That just doesn't happen in the US because people are too worried about someone with a gun. You guys are a lot quicker to get into a fight than the US, which I found odd. I thought the US would be more aggressive, but you guys are so much more. That's what you get with the pubs closing early, people are in a hurry to get shitfaced and can't hold their liquor. By the time we here in the Netherlands start thinking about going out, the pubs in the UK are on their last call basically. Or at least, that was the case when I was still a young lad going out a couple of times a week. . 1 heychadwick reacted to this
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted June 1, 2016 I'm not going to touch the EU issue, no politics and all. But I will say. The ability to go to Mcdonalds, and order chicken nuggets or strips with chips and CURRY SAUCE, BECAUSE CURRY SAUCE IS AN OPTION THERE!!! When I last went sceptered-isle-side I made a point to do just that, and have that chicken kebab with chilli sauce from Efe's in Southam... 1 Gadge reacted to this

heychadwick 11,357 Posted June 1, 2016 Doesn't the toilets spin in the wrong direction there? No. That's supposed to be Australia and anything south of the equator. I'm not sure if it's actually true, though. I don't recall and don't care enough to look it up.

I'm not sure if it's actually true, though. I don't recall and don't care enough to look it up. Coriolis effect. It is theoretically true. But due to the design of most Australian toilets (which dump water directly into the bowl rather than fill-and-drain), it becomes very difficult to test in that way. You can test it scientifically in other ways, of course. 1 heychadwick reacted to this
Fuzzywookie 2,145 Posted June 1, 2016 There was a episode of the Simpsons in Australia. The yanks made a special toilet the spins the correct way. 1 heychadwick reacted to this
Gadge 4,294 Posted June 1, 2016 Although given the flushing toilet is a British invention in the form we know it with an 's' trap (invented by a scotsman) you'd be correct to say that the flush the *right* way in the UK and the wrong way anywhere that was different In other news, i'm having a chicken kebab tonight! 5 WarriorPoet, Hobojebus, heychadwick and 2 others reacted to this

Gadge 4,294 Posted June 1, 2016 They do pretty good burritos in the UK in the right restaurants. I base this on comparing those eaten in canada with those eaten in the UK. It may be they are much superior or much worse in the US. I can only ay i've had a 'taco bell' burrito before and if they are 'standardised' on the north american continent they can keep those ones

heychadwick 11,357 Posted June 1, 2016 I will say that I was in Edinburgh in the 90's and the variety of food was really poor when you compare it to almost anywhere in the US. It was really just surprisingly limited.
