Holocams

10 posts in this topic

First Bespin mission "Reclamation" you can do melee attacks on Holocams but they require accuracy 1 (which is actually 4 since it gets -3 to the accuracy as well).  Wut?  Why would they require accuracy 4, that doesn't even make sense for a melee attack.  Shouldn't this be "requires reach?"

Actually, it shouldn't even require reach, you can simply interact with them.  I'm going to be ignoring this whole accuracy on melee attacks thing.  It's obviously a mistake, otherwise it's completely retarded that it's easier to disable one with your hands than with a vibro axe.

Hide can make you require even more accuracy though, because it gives you -2 accuracy.

Blue/Green/Yellow dice all have accuracy on them.  Melee weapons do have these dice.

They're not hidden.  Your point that some melee attacks can use dice that have accuracy numbers on them is irrelevant.

I think the idea it that they're really high up and very small, but you can hack their input panel or something.

You know, that is one thing I wish FFG would do more in their mission rules sometimes: explain the thematic meaning of rules like this one.

You practically need to perform a ranged attack to hit them. It's intentional.

If it's intentional the person that intended it is an idiot.  It makes 2green vibroknuckles far better for this than a force pike with red/yellow/yellow.  It makes a blue/green vibrosword far better than a green/yellow LIGHTSABER for **** sakes.  Better weapons get lower accuracy (better) dice because accuracy isn't relevant to melee attacks.  This rule just means the worse your weapon is the better it is at doing this test, which is idiotic.

Hacking the panel would be eye/wrench.  This would allow you to use your slicing tools on it which work on wrench.  This is a brute force fist check.  Thematically it is quite clear what is being done.  The problem is the rule for range on a melee attack is idiotic.

Bad rule.  Don't use it.

Yes, for some moments it is better to get a knife then a Broadsword. E.g. for throwing it.

And if you don't like this rule : Do you forbid your Imperial player to use the first part of the "Stealth" XP Card? It is basically the same.

If you want some thematics with it , here is one :

Just imagine the Holocron would be sourrended by a gravitiy force field which makes it incredibly difficult to lift your melee weapon for swinging it. Which is the reason why smaller weapons are more likely to hit, because you can more likely swing them.

The holocam is on the ceiling, thus it is hard to hit with a melee weapon. Melee characters can interact with a strength test (representing jumping and grabbing the cam) instead of whacking it.

"Good against remotes is one thing, but good against a living...?"

The best weapon against these floating/hovering/tiny balls is not always going to be the weapon we want to take into combat with us.
