A four years old young padawan in a LGS...100% off topic

Recommended Posts

This morning, soft walk and pit stop in my LGS to purchase a couple of easy and short tabletop games to play with the family. And then, a father and his son appeared. The look in that small boy, looking towards the X wing corner. There were many, many items much more appealing to a 4 years old mini padawan, Action Figures, swords...but his interest was in the ships. Daddy is one of those SW fans that perhaps can play a fast game once or twice a month, but his son is on his wake.

Perhaps I am becoming old and soft, but that little boy, wearing a rainbow T shirt and looking so interested...perhaps he is 100% sure that Han and Luke are out there.

I've been teaching my 5 year old x wing and he loves it (always asking to use the ghost)

Get a kid into sci-fi or fantasy and they will have little for booze drugs or girls

Booze and drugs maybe not but when the hormones begin flowing and girls go from being icky to interesting all bets are off.

Who's to say their not? As Shakespeare said, "there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy".

Aye, I can testify to that. MTG kept me from smoking and most of the fast food as I was always saving up my money for booster packs.

Technically they are out there: I've seen the SW movies on TV dozens of times. Those signals are still going in outer space.

Always had great fun playing Star Quest (GW's Space crusade) with my dad.

Been playing X-Wing with my youngest since he was 7. He just turned 10. Does okay at the local tourneys and holds his own. I was extremely proud of him last week though. We entered a tournament at our local game store and he won!

The final round saw me pitted against him, and I pulled no punches. I've never won a tournament and wanted it as badly as he did. Ghost and Han did me in. I couldn't have been prouder because he truly earned that victory. It wasn't a gimme at all.

Yeah, Han and Luke are out there somewhere....

i'm waiting for the day my padawan becomes the master! Congrats to your Boy for his first Tournie win! I haven't got him onto pilot abilities yet, but he has only had a few games (He's 5). i may look at pilot abilities in more detail running a Heroes of the Aturi Cluster campaign with him and my little brother (8) as my Wingmen.

I am slowly preparing my own kids who are 5 and 6. They love Star Wars. Not ready for the games yet, apart from battlefront.

Cheap starter set and run the starter game a few times, my boy loves it as does my brother. i've even swapped out for Scum vs the Ghost and an X wing and run a tie bomber plus tie escort just generics no abilities (Yet) you'd be suprised how easily hooked they will be once they have blown up a few Ties/x wings

I'll give you a little heads up. The day your son beats you in X-wing may be one of the worse days in his life. The student became the master. I was 21 when I beat my father in chess and the glow of victory faded fast when I realised the impact of what happened. We didn't play very often after that.

If any child o' mine beats me at a game I do hope they'll use the lines from episode Iv: "When we last met, I was but the learner, now I'm the master." Just so I could come back with Obi-wan's "Only a master of evil-" line. Or, knowing I have a vindictive streak to my character: "Only a master of not getting any allowance for a week!" :D

My godchild is 11 now and she has beaten her dad (and me) several times. Not trough skill (except for machi koro, she has a decent strategy for that one) but with some freaky luck. (Think Rodney's son Luke  from "watch it played type of luck.)

And she likes ganging up with me against her dear ol' dad in Munchkin :D
