Are firesprays lacking compared to the other large ships?

That's the other bad thing about the titles.

If you take the andrasta title you can't have extra munitions. So you pay full price for all 3 bombs. Only worth it if you want 3 different types I suppose.

It's not terrible if you load it with seismics and/or ions.

I have been using this to good effect, the firespray makes a great bomber and emon just has so many options for bomb placement, it may struggle vs 3 u boats but it can cope with a lot of things well, I think yeah the imperial pilots are a bit lacking but the firespray itself is still pretty good,

Firesprays are in a strange place right now. They're not terrible ships like pre-fix defenders. And from time to time something like 3 firesprays wins a tournament, which you don't see with 3x defenders (pre-fix!) or 3x ewings.

 

Indeed, scum firesprays, taking into account the good/cheap crew options, are decent.  HOWEVER, in scum they are overshadowed by the Jumpmaster menace (compare 35 point mandalorian mercenary with either topedo boat or scout + title). In Empire, the named pilots are worse, the crew options are worse and they don't synergize with aces.

 

ATM its a "for fun" ship, you have to work it slightly harder to win, but probably gives more satisfaction. And is pretty unique/interesting to fly.

I also think a firespray ace may combo with the 56 point Dengar - that leaves enough space for VI/EU boba or kath.

A fully upgraded U Boat costs 33 points, Mando Mercs cost 35 base, giving that points are there for balance, a Mando Merc should be able to just beat a U Boat, giving average die rolls. We all know that this isnt the case, so this needs to be fixed, for at least of all balance reasons.

The defender was never terrible it just had a higher skill cap to max it's potential that most people couldn't meet.

They didn't buff the defender they just made it more accessible for the less elite players.

Hot Loaded Rounds

Requires bomb.png on the upgrade bar

Whenever a ship suffers damage from your secondary weapon

or bomb upgrades, that ship suffers 1 more damage.

There are 4 Imperial ships that can take bombs. Firesprays Manglers become much more point efficient. Imperial Cluster Missiles on Bombers/Punishers could potentially do as much damage as they do on the 17 point Scum Headhunter N'Dru Suhlak. Decimators get stronger bomb drops.

 

But really, the Defender titles could work just as well on a Firespray, except for the lack of speed 3 green maneuvers and post-maneuver positioning.

I'd rather see something new, and I'd rather see a Scyk fix first. Firesprays are not really iconic Imperial ships, it's only Imperial because it was released in Wave 2.

The truth is that a lot of people haven't flown the Firespray in a loooong time and assume it's severely underpowered despite subtle improvements in upgrade options. 

 

Glitterstim, Attanni, Tactician are all excellent value upgrades for the Firespray - most people just haven't tried them yet with all the new cooler toys :P

 

 

Alex Davy even mentioned during worlds how surprised he is that Scum Boba isn't more popular in that meta.

 

I'll admit that Imperial versions suck, but I consider the Scum pilots as an upgrade rather than an option tbh.

Firesprays ARE an iconic IMPERIAL ship. They are used to fight against the terrorist scum, rebel or otherwise. I would love a mechanic where the empire buys the use of Bounty Hunters with credits (squad points) to combat the terrorist threats. Now that we have a whole Scum faction at our disposal to help suppress the terrorist uprising it's even more flavorful and appropriate:

Imperial Contract, 1pt- you may include a single named pilot from the scum faction in your squad list. For the purpose of this ship only, you may take Scum only upgrades. If this ship is the last remaining friendly ship on the board and it has no shields it must flee the battle from either starting area on its next maneuver if possible; If it can not flee the battle, whenever it takes an action, assign it a focus token.

Well, not doing data analysis or enough play testing. MJ might be able to do that. We're not sure how strict thier process currently is and I'm sure it's even less adjustment friendly now that they are in the shadow of the house of mouse.

Iconic or not that doesn't take away from the facts that they just aren't great ships with good abilities. They're very lackluster and from a competitive standpoint don't really win anything except the occasional store championship. We also are gonna have to agree to disagree on our definitions of awesomeness lol.

Imperial-wise, i just cant fit it in a list. it always feels overpriced for what im trying to do.

I dont see ANY reason to bring Imperial Boba. Hes going to go first vast majority of time, so wth is the point of a failsafe pilot skill? Kath i see uses, particularly with Autoblasters/Calculation to stressout anyone that doesnt take damage, but..ouch the price!

 

Came up with these two lists, both dont feel like utter failure but they still feel way way weaker than most imperial lists (not talking about palpaces either).

Even though i usually have issues with 2ships i think the firespray decimator one has better odds. Oicunn causes people to fly erratically which makes them either predictable for the firespray or punished by Oicunn. Both can capitalize on a ship that crashes into the connernet too, while the two tie/fos more than likely wouldnt. Still not sold on either though, mainly because OF the firespray

 

Almost tempted to just dock off Kath and bring a random bountyhunter pilot so i can put Vader/Seismics on Oicunn. But even though the pilot skills arent that great, the basic pilot is still too expensive compared to the ones with skills to take (i have that issue with almost every ship)

I'd like to reiterate what I said in my original post that started this thread that I don't think the firespray is bad by any means.

What I DO feel is that it has fallen behind every other large ship in the game.

Shuttle - Palp shuttle says it all, but doom shuttle is great too. Other than a horrible dial is pretty cheap for what you get.

Decimator - Gone down in popularity somewhat, but all 4 pilots are usable. 360 turret, 16 hit points, and 3 crew slots are great. Adding engine and isaard makes them even harder to kill.

Falcon - fat falcons say it all. Down in use but still very potent.

Vcx - new hotness on the block. 16 hit points with a 4 dice primary is nothing to laugh at. Add a turret and systems slot to makes it even more powerful.

Aggressor - brobots are still a force, great ship for the cost with all the best upgrades available for it.

Jumpmaster - nothing more needs to be said about them that hasn't been already.

YV666 - had fallen behind. But its cheap cost combined with 3 crew slots that really take advantage of the new scum crew has given it a boost.

Outrider - maybe the only other large ship that's close to the firespray for reduced use. Dash is still a huge threat for many lists though. The barrel roll, all 3 hard turns, and a 360 turret give it the edge though.

Main thing is that they get expensive very fast for mediocre abilities in comparison with other large base ships. Decimator with 360 arc, the Aggressor and it's agility and the low cost byt deadly Jumpmaster all beat it.
