Whats Your Username Orgin Story?

Recommended Posts

When I started playing X-Wing there was already a Matt that essentially started the group from scratch. With me joining, I started going by "Other Matt" to tell the two of us apart.

But I have a spectacular mustache (only facial hair I am allowed to have, as beards break the seal on respirators) and started using Biggs Darklighter in the majority of my Rebel builds.

Suddenly, there was only one "Matt" in the group. I was Biggs.

Mine's a Nebulon-B Frigate from TIE Fighter.

. . . sort of boring compared to everyone else's story . . .

well so far we have "my cat is crazy" and "I Spealls Guud" so I will add "I like weak sides and a strongFront" :P

Applies to frigates and women.

I kind of bounce between mmo's on my phone and tablet and it got really aggravating trying to find new names all the time. To my surprise, no one had used the name of a race of ugly, poetry reading, bureaucrats featured in a book from the 1980's.

was that Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy?

Your Mustache is rather spectacular, after all.

I've born witness to the moustache. It is indeed spectacular.

My nickname is a case of super lazy from the early commercialization of the internet. As I signed up for things I simply used a shorthand for my last name that many of my friends used pre internet even.

My last name is Stasyszyn. There is a reason work provided me a short version of my email for use with customers. :D

Because I am a Cuban Shinobi from the 15th century?

It was the first thing I thought of when I was pressed to come up with an XBOX gamertag.  Every other thing I thought of was taken.  Nobody wants to spell Caribbean every time they log in to somewhere I guess.

The only thing I do like about it is all of my "relatives" on line. (usernames with Ninja in them.)

I reveal that secret only when Drunk.

The last time was back in March '00, at the Sergeant's Mess at East Sale RAAF Base.

They had Dollar Pints and .50c Shots.

Half a Point if you can work out Why were drunk on that day.

It was a big deal in that corner of the world, after all...  But I dare say the Northern Hemisphere barely noticed.

Team NZ wins America's Cup? I have no idea.  But the reason you were drunk was Dollar Pints and .50c shots. :)

The abbreviated version of my old army nickname* + the last 3 of my regi-number

... I've spent so many years (nearly 20 now!) answering to that name I use either that or Lord Nat on forums

thank you for your service BTW

It did involve a foreign nation :D  But one to our North-west, rather than South-East :D

...

Another Hint.

An American Equivalent Date would be 28 DEC 2014.

Hmm...Does it rhyme with Beast Seymour?

East Timor? Was that 2000?

Specifically, 23MAR00 was the day INTERFET signed over control and ended operations.

I was merely an AIRTC Cadet at the time, but I had the (somewhat illegal) privilege of flying on a couple of 38sqn DHC-4s as a rookie loadmaster, before returning to 32sqn where my Work Experience was supposed to be based.

So we were Celebrating.

And I was Drunk.

Which was no mean feat, since at the time, I was still 6'1" and built like the proverbial outhouse :D

Mine is from a character in an early-1990s Warhammer Fantasy novel (Beasts in Velvet). The name alluded to Michael Heseltine, who was a prominent, if troublesome, member of Margaret Thatcher's cabinet. Anyway, the novel had a bit of satire in it, and I thought that was quite clever for a book derived from a role-playing/tabletop battles game.

(This was back before GW became... well, what we now know as GW.)

interesting, I always assumed your user was play/variation on your real name, like you were Michael Hasting or somthing lol. Anyway interesting to learn what it actually is :)

Hehe, well, since I study European politics, it's still something that I feel connected to, and, yeah, my real name is Michael.

When I was about 15 I think? My friend and I had a pretty random sense of humour, and would come up with random names to call ourselves, complete with mock ID cards, scribble on bits of school book (to deflect the sheer boredom of school). He: Jim Juan Stealth, Me: Bob Diego SANCHEZ.

Sanchez, became S4NCH32 on xbox live (due to finding one that would be accepted!)

Which then became 54NCH32 (in faux-l33t styling due to my graphic design sensibilities!).

This is now my standard username/ gaming callsign ("Oi Sanchez! two guys flanking you on the left!") and tag for any personal graphic design project :)
