Boba Dengar Bros List

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am pretty new to X-Wing but I am absolutely hooked!  Have been playing a Whisper Swarm but wanted to try something completely different.  I like the weirdness of Punishing One so was considering the list below.  How does it sound to you?

Dengar (54)

JumpMaster 5000 (33), Push the Limit (3), Gunner (5), Unhinged Astromech (1), Punishing One (12)

Boba Fett (46)

Firespray-31 (39), Marksmanship (3), Boba Fett (1), Slave-1 (0), Guidance Chips (0), Plasma Torpedoes (3)

Thanks for your help!

Can't be sure about what you have. But your Dengar wants K4 Security Droid (which you should have) instead of Gunner.

The reason is because Gunner interferes with Dengar's ability, while K4 compliments your action-economy with Push The Limit.

Boba also not only wants Gunner, but you can't have Boba pilot and crew on the same squad, let alone the same ship. That's just against the core rules.

Now, if you don't have Engine Upgrade, it's fine leaving Boba with ordnance. But both of your pilots REALLY want Engine Upgrade. Assuming you don't have it, your torpedo slot should be filled with Extra Munitions, while you pack either Concussion Missiles or Homing Missiles. Again, if you don't have neither, then your torpedo choice should be Proton Torpedoes for the free dice modification.

One last thing: Marksmanship is a terrible idea. You must have Veteran Instincts from your Slave-I expansion pack. Use it. Boba wants it. Boba loves it.

Assuming that all you have is a Core Set, a Most Wanted pack, a Slave-I pack, a Punishing One pack and an A-Wing pack (because you have Push The Limit), this is what your build should look like:

Boba Fett (39):

  • Veteran Instincts (1)
  • Gunner (5)
  • Feedback Array (2)

Total: 47 pts

Dengar (33):

  • Push The Limit (3)
  • K4 Security Droid (3)
  • Unhinged Astromech (1)
  • Punishing One (12)

Total: 52 pts

With what you have (I'm assuming) Boba shouldn't pack ordnance. Mostly because it eats up more points than a Boba/Dengar build can't support.

With this setup, Boba has what he needs: PS10, some cover for his blind spot (takes two ion tokens to cripple large ships, REMEMBER that) and a redo that synergizes beautifully with his pilot ability. But. whatever you do, Boba needs Engine Upgrade.

Dengar performs all three actions every turn, if you take a green maneuver, with K4 and Push The Limit. The synergy is all there. But...Dengar also needs Engine Upgrade.

And there you have it. 99 pts, giving you a small bid for Dengar against Imp Aces and Boba against Poe. Not a bad duo, mind you. Lack of EU is hard, though, but it'll get you by.

Immediate thought is that Boba can't be crew if Boba is piloting. I've never been really sure how to build dengar but I'm not sure gunner is the best crew option. It's nice if you can use it on his response attack but if you use it on his initial then you can't do the response attack due to gunner. If I was using those two pilots I might build them like this. Ordinance wouldn't be too useful on these guys since they are both heavy hitters anyways.

I like your list and the offensive mindset of it. My heavy Dengar is a little bit heavier than yours, that sacrifices Boba to a Mandalorian Mercenary. I was looking at Marksmanship as your option for Boba, I thought it was a good action with his pilot skill, but I think Dengar would be the prize ship in this fight. I've made a similar error putting Dengar crew on Dengar Pilot--I understand why the makers wouldn't want that or Boba on Boba, it's brutal.

Anyway my Dengar is 57 points total, his upgrades are Punishing One (12), PTL (3), Gonk (2), R5-P8 (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

Mandalorian Mercenary at 43 points has Predator (3), 4-LOM (1) and Engine Upgrade (4)

PTL and Gonk has a little different jive than your PTL Gunner build. Yours might want to fly on the outside and arc dodge where gunner is more useful. I'm going in for more of a blitzkrieg, hoping to shoot and retaliate with either R5-P8 or Dengar pilot ability then storming away where gonk is almost necessary.

Anyway best of luck--Scum ships are definitely IMO the most fun and interactive lists.

Interesting ideas so far. I really like this duo of pilots. I flew this at a recent Spring kit tournament and it worked perfectly:

Boba (Veteran Instincts, Gunner, Engine Upgrade)

Dengar (Predator, Recon Specialist, Punishing One title)

100 points

Very simple list.

That's really nice, actually, really like the simplicity of the upgrades!

Thanks so much for your notes!  And thanks for clarifying about the double pilots!  The lists you propose sound great.  Here's another variation I was thinking up:

================== Dengar Mandalorian ==================

100 points Pilots

------

Dengar (54)

JumpMaster 5000 (33), Expert Handling (2), Extra Munitions (2), Plasma Torpedoes (3), Greedo (1), Overclocked R4 (1), Punishing One (12), Guidance Chips (0)

Mandalorian Mercenary (46)

Firespray-31 (35), Boba Fett (1), “Hot Shot” Blaster (3), Marksmanship (3), Shield Upgrade (4)

------

What do you think?

Thanks,

Hhraath

Oh, forgot to mention, the main thing I am wondering about is how good/bad it is to use Greedo with Boba Fett to force an opponent to give up an upgrade card.  Thanks!  Is Determination a good mediation for this?  I was fooling around with this alternate list:

100 points Pilots

------

Dengar (53)

JumpMaster 5000 (33), Determination (1), Extra Munitions (2), Plasma Torpedoes (3), Greedo (1), Overclocked R4 (1), Punishing One (12), Guidance Chips (0)

Mandalorian Mercenary (47)

Firespray-31 (35), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Boba Fett (1), Feedback Array (2), Slave-1 (0), Expert Handling (2)

------

Hmm... there are a few options that I would go for, and certainly more than Determination (it was a lot more useful in the original damage deck, the new one doesn't have a "no more pilot ability" you have to worry about). First option is to drop Expert Handling and Determination for Predator. A huge help against anything, and will work when your ability triggers as well.

Next option is to drop Greedo and EM, and add K4 Security Droid, swap out Overclocked with Unhinged Astromech. Really opens up the dial and gives you free TLS, which is never a bad thing.

Next option is to drop Feedback Array on the Merc and add Glitterstim instead. A lot more useful during the initial joust, and remember you have a rear arc that you can utilize. You shouldn't have much use of FA in most matches. Either Stim or Inertial Dampeners are your best bets for Illicit upgrades on this guy.

You should definitely drop Expert Handling. It's not a good upgrade for what you have on the list especially when it will cause stress.

Also, I imagine you have the title on there just to call it Slave I (which is cool, I do the same with the Ghost, and it's 0 points, so no worries). If you drop HLC, that will free up 7 points for other upgrades. Predator, AHM, Cluster Missiles, EM, etc. I would encourage it, as it will at the very least give you the comfort of knowing you don't have to K turn to get your power shot. And 3 PW is not bad when you have a total of 180 degree arc to fire out of. As a thought, Calculation+Recon Specialist could help the Merc activate Boba on demand.

*Edit for spacing
