Knight level PbP game.

Recommended Posts

Typed up a brief description of the game:

 Star Wars

                                The Mercenary March

Disaster has struck the galaxy! The Republic has crumbled, and has been replaced by a merciless galactic EMPIRE.

Any resistance is quickly quelled, and any sign of weakness is soon crushed. Those who protect the weak have found that it is better to do so secretly. A small number of elite mercenaries, bounty hunters, outcasts, and ex-gladiators have crashed on a lone, unimportant, Outer Rim World. Fighting through the Dangerous, Deadly, Destructive, Deserted, Daunting, Devious Desert, they have found a small town, ransacked by pirates.

Try saying the Desert description five times fast. :D

Is there a specific way we know each other? I'm writing my back story tonight.

Nope, unless two players want too. Otherwise you crashed on planet.

Well, if you've ever watched Seven Samurai or Magnificent Seven, then most of the heroes didn't know each other beforehand. A few were old associates (at least in Seven Samurai), but the common thread should be being recruited by the endangered villagers in some way.

I like Seek for the Shatterpoint parts, if you want it for the Seeking parts, then I don't see to much overlap. But, really, none of the powers immediately grab me as being necessary for the character concept, so go ahead if you'd like.

Well, for my purposes, Seek was a two fold thing. It was a way to track objects to study, as well as a way to get pierce for punching. Although, there is Talisman of the Iron Fist or whatever. Either way, it comes later.

If I drop Seek, I would likely get either a second rank in Lore or Vigilance, or grab the first box of Sense and see where that gets me. Anyone with opinions?

@gmren Do you have an idea of when you'll have something set up on role playing games.net? I've never used that website before. I try ed messing around with it but it won't let you do alot (I'm no mostly interested in how the dice are captured/recorded) unless you're in a game.

You have to be given permisson by the GM of the game in order to post. And the site has its own dice roller, I'm pretty sure you can use Orokos.com to roll as wel.

Meet Metharom.

I was thinking of multi specing into sage to have a knowledgeable person in the group. Looks like I won't have to now. Leaning toward Armorer, but still looking thru intellect and cunning based classes

I'm also looking at Intellect (Soresu/Artisan) and Cunning (Shien/Seer) based specs.  If you have a preference let me know and I'll take the other route - or if  you're going Armorer (very nice spec) then I'll have to resolve my own dilemma =)

When doing Knight level do you get the 500 starting creds plus the 9,000 (if you don't take the lightsabre)? Also will there be a chance to earn a lightsabre in game? I was considering using a double bladed and since that's not standard I'd figure I'd just go for the creds. But whether or not I start with a lightsabre may effect the overall build (though I'm debating doing a few ranks in Big Game Hunter considering the background as opposed to Marshal. Or maybe a bit of both who knows).

Also any suggestions for a good sniper rifle? I know the E-11 is good, but I'm not sure if I want ot restructure for a Brawn of 3 to overcome the Cumbersome.

You still get the 500 Cr in addition to the 9K. We just JR to post, then we can start the game. Does everyone here have roleplayinggames.net accounts?

OK cool. I should have the sheet updated sometime tomorrow then. Been at work all day today.

Also since it has come up in the discussion, my character also uses Seek, since as his background he uses it track people and to hunt.

I'm definitely going for Armorer after I get force rating 3 from Seer. I will need more Force powers with a 3 rating, which I'm sure will divide anything I do as far a getting a new Specialization. With Seer being based mostly on Force abilities and it covering my attacks I won't need another offensive based Spec. The defensive and Mechanics boost in Armorer are very strong. Should be work well together.

Ok so as I work on my character and updating him from his original starting point I figured I'd discuss my concept a bit more to get a feel for what others are playing and if I need to move points into other areas. So I'm playing Lord Kolah, one of the galaxies (or at least Outer Rims) best trackers ;). So he's a Seeker: Hunter build. I think, based on his background as a tracker for a noble family, instead of doing the Marshal build I'm going to splash in some Big Game Hunter, thus making him the long range sniper/fighter of the group. His top stats are Agility and Cunning (brutal when you opt to play a Mirialin :P).

So I'm thinking skill wise of focusing a bit on Ranged Heavy, few ranks of Ranged Light, Survival, Piloting Planetary and likely sneaking around. Force powers wise I was definitely going with Seek and likely Enhance but also considered Misdirection if the points allow for it.

I kinda got the idea for this character from rewatching Brisco County Jr and loving the character Lord Bowler.

Looks great to me.

Thanks. I'm down to my last 15 xp. I'm just now trying to decide if I want to do a few more Force upgrades (like take Force Leap again) or if I want to buy Misdirect.

Edit: As an aside how long does it take to set up an account on roleplayinggames? I set up an account but still haven't gotten any kind of confirmation email.

Sheet thus far ( http://swsheets.com/c/rxhrxqlyj-lord-kolah )

So, I've seen Seek come up a bit, and I don't see a need for three people to have it, or even two which are focused on the notion of the tracking and, well, seeking aspects of it.

I think, to make things simpler, I'm going to drop it. Debating dropping Archaeologist too. GMRen did list it on the "I'd need to approve it's inclusion in this game," as it was.

Think I might just focus on the Warden tree for a bit more, then pump Knowledge (Lore) and Mechanics and go with Artisan later.

Also, in a Seven Samurai themed game, I just don't see myself plundering too many ruins.

Thoughts?

Well I don't mind 3 people having Seek lol. Granted I guess my character is kinda tied to it conceptually. But I do agree that in a Magnificent 7/Samurai 7/Seven Samurai themed adventure there may not be too many ruins to plunder, though one never knows. I can picture there being an underground temple under the village we are attempting to save :D

I think Warden and later Artisan work as backup character paths if that's what you want to do. Maybe it would help if we all went over the role we picture our character playing in the party? Myself I kinda picture Kolah being the ranged fighter and tracker. Able to help the party survive off the land.I haven't gone over my equipment yet (that's a lot of credits to spend!!!) but I was thinking in the very least a sniper rifle, a good side arm, maybe a scattergun since it's a western ( :P) and then survival and possibly scouting based equipment (recon droids could be useful me thinks).

Just looked at post 1 again, and I need to ask -- where is Metharom, Blackbird?

I think I liked that smarty pants cerean. So what if it was because the white beard and eyepatch made me think of Big Boss?

That was the first concept, actually. GMRen needs to update the post with the new character.

Are the gun holsters that reduce Encumbrances or can I just use the Utility belt as one?

To my recollection, there aren't really any holsters that reduce encumbrance. The concealment holster (Dangerous Covenants) makes it harder to find, but doesn't affect encumbrance. If you're talking for rifles, I think the strap attachment might work, but I can't recall specifics.
