I don't understand the idea behind plane Tomax Bren with crackshot

Ok, in theory he became a pilot with 3 attack dice (provided that attacking targets with agility > 1). Costing 25 points. So what is his advantage of "hyping" a ordnance free Tomax Bren? Is it due to PS of 8? Or are they good combinations with certain crew cards with the shuttle title?

I would rather prefer "adrenaline rush", "lighting reflexes" or "cool hand" on him.

I'll agree that naked Tomax with nothing but Crackshot is probably a bad idea. He's 6 hull behind two agility. At that price point, he's competing with the likes of Omega Leader and the Inquisitor. He could probably slot in as a third pilot alongside them, but Bren alone doesn't do it for me.

Being naked is not the best use of his ability, you want that crack shot to push through something debilitating like Ion Pulse missiles or some Proton Torpedoes.

 

The Bomber has enough red maneuvers that Cool Hand and Adrenaline rush could get used each turn.

You can fit Tomax crack shuttle with systems officer in with ion vessery and OL. Crackshot would help him get some shots in to help out. Still probably too many points though, but at ps 8 he moves after vessery to let him get a TL after he has already moved. Enough points for another crew or to upgrade OL to Inquisitor if you want.

 

Scimitars might be better shuttles, but there is the system officer problem of moving before the pilots you want to support and give the TL to. 

 

That is a list I want to work, but it may be stretching it thin too much with a support ship that expensive. Cool hand makes him much more durable but he will get ignored anyways if he can't push any damage through.

Crackshot isn't a bad choice on a shuttle that you are bringing from utility but I think I'd be tempted to put VI on Bren with System Officer just to be able to hand out TLs at PS 10. Then find someone to slap Decoy on.

Can confirm, Decoy Echo is hilarious fun. That said, if you're going to run Decoy Echo, you really need more than one PS10+ buddy. They tend to be huge targets as soon as your opponent realises what's going on...

 

I think Bren is still cheap enough to chuck a couple of Homing or Concussion Missiles on, along with maybe a Proximity Mine or AHM for some extra poke (AHM, Chips and Crackshot... mmmmmm). Although, Cool Hand with Fleet and Systems Officers is a fairly rough support ship for a formation of aces.

yeah, what Rakaydos said, along with the suggestion that Redline+Clusters+FCS+EM is a much better exploitation of the cluster mechanic. Getting soooo many TLs it's ridiculous and using them on the clusters...

 

 

What I'm thinking with Crackshot Tomax Bren is Moff Jerrjerrod and Agent Kallus - Kallus gets you more dice mods, and Jerry lets you ignore at least one (and possibly two, if Kallus' declared target is toast) crits.

naked? the hell would you do that for lol. Bombers arent a Hawk so they at least have 2 dice attacks but still thats somewhat pricy for a 2die attack that can use crackshot every round.

 

I'd see better use putting Adrenalin Rush on him. Now he can K-turn and still use an action and isnt forced to green-move next round. It also lets him do some sneaky stuff with mines... K-turn between two rocks about 1 distance apart, dump mines out your back and fly away without any risk of flying headlong into the enemy or into a rock (which Redline tends to have issues with when i try this lol)

Tomax Bren w/ just Crackshot is only 24 pts for a PS 8 guy who can Crack Shot each turn.  Oh, with 6 hull and a decent move dial and BR.  What's not to like?  

 

He can be an amazing Ordnance carrier, as well.  I'd probably keep him cheap with GC, Homing Missile, and Extra Munitions.  He can just use his main gun after that.

 

Even if you go with the vanilla version of Tomax, I think the Shuttle title is not a bad investment.  What to put on?

 

Moff Jerrod is an excellent option!  He's 2 pts that's basically a Shield Upgrade.  Bombers attract crits like no one's business.

 

Ysanne Isard is expensive at 4 pts, but not a bad idea.  You get a free Evade every round after you are wounded.  You are going to get wounded.  Why not have it?  OK...the 4 pts is steep.  

 

Rebel Captive is probably the best.  You don't want to shoot at him with your best and it helps keep him alive to the end game.  The Crackshot will wear people down and PS 8 will help get him in good spots.  

 

Mara Jade will stress out anyone in R1?  You go at PS 8 and have Barrel Roll.  There are a lot of places you can get to to cause stress on your opponents.

 

Agent Kallus is great if your opponent's list has only a few ships.  Most seem to have only 3 these days with some having fewer.  He works offense and defense.  The Bomber could use both.  

 

Fleet Officer stresses you out and you don't want that on Tomax.  

 

Tactician is OK.  

 

Weapons Engineer isn't horrible if you have Col Vessery in your list, but he is a bit much at 3 pts.  

 

Recon Specialist helps keep him alive as he gets one Focus for Offense and one for Defense.  

 

Intell Agent is only a point and if you have one left over, why not?

Fleet Officer stresses you out and you don't want that on Tomax.  

 

This is where Cool Hand comes in. As much as I like the idea of Crackshot on him for ordnance work, as a support vessel with Fleet Officer, the stress is actually handy. Depending on your list, the other slot could be very flexible, either for Tomax himself, or his wingmates.

 

Mara Jade on a Scimitar with Intel Agent, however, is blocker heaven.

As others have suggested already, Cool Hand Shuttle Bren is tremendous. Crack Shot with Homing Missiles or Protons is good too.

Crossing your wires and putting Crack on him in the shuttle seems wrong though, unless you're using him as filler with Crack + Tact, but that's a pricey filler when you could take El Omega Jefe for that and Juke & Lock is a lot like infinite crack anyways on OL.
