Ready Room (Mission 1: Political Escort): 47:30

Visit our facebook page (Shuttle Tydirium Podcast) or email us at theshuttletydirium@gmail.com!

No complaining about Phantoms and no Tournament talk!  Personally, I'm excited about this one for a couple of reasons.  I really love the B-Team intro and keep getting it stuck in my head for days at a time.  Next, I really enjoyed the Ready Room mission and would love to hear feedback.  I started a thread almost a month ago when we started to talk about doing this mission.  You can read up on that (and comment) here:

I'd love to hear feedback, even if it's critical.  Now...I probably need to go back and listen to it as it's been 2 weeks since we recorded!

I do think it's funny that I talk about Scyks with Mindlink and someone comes in 2nd at a Regionals with them in it!

  • Brian Lindamood (#4 Swiss, 10 / 518): NDru Suhlak + Attanni Mindlink + Guidance Chips + Cluster Missiles;
  • 2x Tansarii Point Veteran + Mangler Cannon + Attanni Mindlink + Stealth Device + Heavy Scyk Interceptor;
  • Tansarii Point Veteran + Mangler Cannon + Attanni Mindlink + Heavy Scyk Interceptor

Can't wait to DL and listen to this new episode

Love the scenario discussions

Great!  We get into a pretty detailed discussion of Mission 1: Political escort in this episode.

In Episode 4, we'll be discussing Dagobah Dave's trench run scenario, which has been widely circulated and played.

I think we had a lot of fun playing both scenarios!

... OK. Now I have to download this just because of the reference to the greatest movie ever made*.

"I am no messenger. But I will give you a message. The message... OF DEATH!"

I mean... there have been better acting performances than Jack Palance as Voltan. I'm just not sure there have been any BIGGER performances. That's the reason they stopped making movies in 1980, it was because Jack Palance had used up ALL THE ACTING.

* - other than Fast And The Furious 5, obv.

Aw, HWKs.

Reminds me of my first tournament list, from back in the evil days of Wave 5 and no ships on store shelves:

Nera Dantels (35)

B-Wing (26), Fire-Control System (2), Flechette Torpedoes (2), Flechette Torpedoes (2), Swarm Tactics (2), Munitions Failsafe (1)

Roark Garnet (26)

HWK-290 (19), Ion Cannon Turret (5), Jan Ors (2)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12) x 2

Prototype Pilot (15)

A-Wing (17), Chardaan Refit (-2)

It prompted fear in Phantoms, but not much else.  I suppose I could fly it better today than I did back then, though.

Haha!  I knew there were some other seasoned guys out there.  Yeah, I remember that movie.  That's why I always called J-bot HWK the Slayer, as he just loved those things.  What other movie has awesome elves firing 3 arrows before they land while jumping from a tree?

This is a good episode to listen to as it's a lot of fun.  Good stuff.

Fantastic episode, keep up the good work guys!

Thanks Blake!  I appreciate what you said on the Facebook page about the transitions being smoother and such.  We do improve!

Which....brings up the point about the Facebook page.  It's started to get active and J-bot wants everyone to answer the Captain's Question of the week there.  It's good to see everyone's answers.

As a side point, we did upgrade our Podbean account and can now track where are people that download our show.  Australia has just edged out Poland and Sweden to take the #4 spot!  Wait...I just checked the numbers again and Sweden and Australia are tied!  Poland is next, with Denmark at #7.  Oddly, #8 is "Unknown".  I'd love to know who these guys are.  Are they in some secret govt. lab that erases all trace of where they are at because they are building a new Death Star?  Or are they crew of a cruise ship that travels the world and is no where in particular?  Maybe guys at the South Pole with nothing to do all day while they do science experiments?  If you happen to be one of these shadowy "Unknown" listeners, please step forward.  I'd love to know.

Number of Downloads:

Episode 1: 824

Episode 2: 718

Episode 3: 389 (after 1 day)

The numbers for Ep 3 is going up all the time, but Ep 2 numbers are also slowly climbing.  I think this is from listeners who are slow to download.  Ep 1 does get the occasional bump.

Hey guys, I loved the episode!  Now I really want to play mission 1.  I especially liked that you really went outside the anticipations of the designers by using ships and upgrades that are current, and it's great to hear that it largely held up to it.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about the trench run, get some stories to go with all the wonderful pictures!

Thanks for the feedback!  I hope it inspires  you to play Mission 1!  It was a lot of fun to try it.  I got to have a few people try the same mission out over a couple of weeks and I can see that they had thought about it more the 2nd week.

I agree that trying the same, old missions with all the latest toys is really exciting.  I loved flying my Tie Punisher for the first time and really smashing enemies with it.

We already recorded the Trench Run episode and it should be out on Tuesday.  I think I'm the one who's played it the most and once again, I talk the most.

Hi, just had a chance to listen to all 3 shows, really enjoyable and can't wait for the one about the Trench Run, as I have a board made up for it but not had a chance to use it yet.

Been playing since the start of the year when the Escort Mission was one of the first things I played, & one thing kinda caught my attention [sorry if I've misunderstood something]

During the discussion of the mission, I heard a few references to the idea of using a tractor beam on the shuttle, at least one of which I think mentioned moving it...I thought (a) this only worked with small-base ships, so (b) isn't the shuttle actually slightly larger [longer] than a small base ? - Yes, I know it's not a large base, but then they didn't exist when it was written...

...do you think it should be treated as a small or large base for things like this ? Personally, to me it feels [thematically] like it should be the latter, but curious what others think.

Keen to give it another try...got one of the Shapeways models to use instead of the counter, but still need to get around to finishing its paintjob!

Cheers

First off, thanks so much for the feedback!  It's always great to hear it when you are just starting out.  You never know if you are making something worthwhile or not without people saying so.

The Trench Run episode is done and dusted.  It's loaded and ready to be released on Tuesday morning (East Coast US time).  I hope you like it!  We are thinking of teaming with a local YouTube channel called Sling Paint Gaming.  I've got a bunch of Trench Run stuff to make a good looking table and they have the YouTube channel.  I think it would be great if they try it out on YouTube.

I was the one that was trying to use the Tractor Beam.  You make a good point about what type of ship is it?  I have no idea!  I guess I thought it wasn't a large based ship, so it worked.  Hmm....maybe you are right.  I've found the Rebels never win, so maybe it would be too much on them?  I'd love to hear what other people think, as well.  It's still good just to reduced the Agility by 1, though.  I never could hit with it, though, as all those blasted Evade Tokens were there!  I also realized that I probably should've just Tractor Beamed one of the support ships away from the Shuttle!

With so many ships, pilots, and ugprades in the game at this point, it's so much fun to try so many different options.

Will look forward to it...your last point echoes really well, too, as one of the things that appeals about the Trench Run is the return to the [mainly] thematic Core ships/capabilities...with SO many options, sometimes its nice to have someone suggest a good subset to use :)

Good luck with the YouTube experiment...

Oh, yeah, we talk about different upgrades.  We mention that Y-wings can get Bombs now and how does that impact the game?  I haven't tried it with any Bombs yet, but I think Ion Bombs in particular would have a big impact (pun intended).  There are a lot of turrets now, as well.  Integrated Astromech or Guidance Chip for X-wings?  New Astromechs.  There are even new Tie Fighter pilots, as well.

In fact, I made a thread on these forums where I went on about it and asked opinions.  I'll probably link to that one when I post about the new episode.

Just listening to episode 3 right now - my new favourite X-cast! Great work Chadwick...

That's high praise as there are a lot of great podcasts out there.  Thanks so much!  I have fun with it.
