Just got the core set and have a few questions

1. Can you play multiple actions if you have domains to pay for them? An example would be the Hastur card. It says Action: pay 3 to choose a character. That character goes insane. So if I have 3 domains with 3 attached resources in each can I play the action 3 times in a row?

2. If I play a character card with an investigation icon on an uncontested story do I get 3 successes? One for the icon, one for skill and one for it being uncontested?

3. If I play a character card with an arcane icon on an uncontested story does that character ready?

4. There seems to be quite a few asylum packs, any advice what to pick up next?

ok here we go,

1. you can play as many characters spells etc that you have the recourses to pay for but in your first example you would need 3 of that card in your hand as you can only use it once.

2. yep youre right there

3. yep again, if you win an arcane stuggle you may ready a character on the story, any one..

4. pick whichever one you like the sound of most, or for the type you want in them

#1: Well, not necessarily in a row. It's an Action, when you do an Action, it's the other player's turn to play an Action, though if he's got nothing, those can happen in a row of sorts.

#2: Only if your character has Skill 1+. Skill 0 with Investigation will net 1 success for the I-struggle.

And chiming in here, for #1.   An important distinction with Hastur is that he does NOT have the text "and exhaust".  Some characters, like Hastur, allow you to pay again and again as long as you have the free domains with enough resources.   Others, have a text like "Pay 2 and exhaust to draw a card" (Gentleman's Club BTW).  These cards you have to exhaust, and then can't use again until they refresh.

AP-wise, I suggest you get them all. Starting from the last 2 of the 1st set (At the Mountains... and Ancient Horrors). It's always good to have all of them for an expansive card pool and exciting amount of deck building.
