Starting a campaign as GM with all new players. I've never PCed

Recommended Posts

Ok, so background

Me GM, played 2 dysfunctional games of D&D before, and ran the beginner game

Wife, PCed in beginner game. Duros scientist

Other couple, have previously played some D&D.

Wife is twilek medic/force emergent

Husband will fill a gap to round out the team

Resources

AoR beginner game

F&D beginner game

AOR core and GM kit

Whiteboard

Plan is to start with the Permian Haul, teach the other couple the rules with help from the beginner box tutorials

If that goes well, Dead in the Water seems a good follow up.

Are there any aid memoirs or guides on transitioning from beginner game to full rules.

Also, I have thoughts on exploring the force emergents powers, such as finding a Kyber crystal in the back of Passks odities, thus planting the seed for a future lightsaber building adventure

Well, from what others have said in other threads, the Beginner Box games are pretty much specifically designed to introduce the full rules over the course of the game.  I've never played them myself, so I can only comment second hand, but the whole point of those campaigns is to gently introduce the rules to new players.  So, yeah start there.

Ok, so do it?  I'm not sure what you need from us about this plot point?  Do you need/want other ideas on how to include a kyber crystal aside from that option?

Also, your name is too close to mine.  I have squatters rights to Fu.  We must now duel at high moon (yes, moon, it's a night :P ) on a bridge with no safety rails.  THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!

Your god Kung may preach that sort of violence, but Funk is a merciful disco god who just wants everyone to take their battles to the lightup dance floor

As to my point. Im sure I had one, but seemed to have lost it along the way whislt writing out my ideas.

I think what I was asking was are their any adventures for one of the party building a lightsaber/seeking mentor, whislt the remainder of the party is still entertained.

And yes, I do have all the extra resources for both beginner games.

Not sure about a module where 1 player gets to build a saber, and the other don't, but the campaign you get for buying the Force and Destiny GM kit is a campaign specifically about a group of PC's finding kyber crystals and building their sabers.  It even includes the rules about making sabers.  So I'd check that out.   I have it, but I haven't read it, since I am running my own campaign.   The rules are very handy for building a saber though.  I suspect, that it wouldn't take much effort to make sure the various encounters would be fun and engaging for non Force PC's.  I could be wrong, but I doubt it, simply based on the flexibility of the FFG system in general.

Wow. I go away to run the first session and come back to this derailment.

It was a blast. Everyone had a ball. The party has now secured passage onto one of the load lifters, but not after the pilot won an impromptu race to the death in TIE fighters with the local ace (after high tea with the govenor), and the girls flirting away some senties before sneaking into the work crew managers office.

Meanwhile Passk was more than happy to part ways with the strange glowing purple crystal to the Twilek.

AM I, THE DE-RAILIEST!?   SHO NUFF!!

Glad you all had fun.  So since your point of this thread was finding good resource books, did you run into any issues that you couldn't improvise around?  Any glaring problems where you were like "man, I wish one of my source books covered this!"   I'm guessing not, but I am curious to know.

The race almost stumped me, as I was not prepared for starship combat. however what saved the day was Super Secret Rebel Base's podcast. They did a swoopbike race in that, so I just modified that for TIE fighters.

I ended up just having both racers roll for take the advantage. Whoever won that came out ahead of each section. A triumph aĺowed an opportunity for attack.

Edit. The wife stayed up with me in bed going through potential options for her character, to the point of planning a career path as elaborate as her real life degree program. She just informed me that she dreamt about dice all night too
