Wild Fury (News on Stewards of the Secret: H&M Pack)

Recommended Posts

O&R do effectively count as getting a free move action each turn which isn't terrible. Combine it with Elven boots is always nice. The low stats are definitely a damper but saving actions standing up heroes could be a game changer in some quests. I don't think he's stellar but he's at least better than the original incarnation.

Do remember while Nanok cannot where light/heavy stuff he can still wear cloaks. So act I he can pick up a white wolf cloak for an extra brown dice. Act II he can change it for a cloak of deception if he's lucky enough to find it. Black and Gray dice together + any warrior abilities. Might be good to go for knight with him for those shield bonuses.

Also as for the feat you can use it quite effectively with Widow Tara or Tethrys. They spend their feat, hit multiple targets one of which is a big guy standing next to Nanok. Nanok grants two attacks and you've cleared a big chunk of guys.

okaluk and rakash is still good i think. It can move and do 2 actions freely, and his feat let him the opportinity to raise all heroes including himself on one shot. Could be a real threat to the OL.

Nanok is still strange. A cloak warrior ? not sur his nerf worth the exchange. Seems like he is made to be a Champion to me, so.

I got my copy yesterday, not sure if I'm allowed to post much about the heroes but:

Nanok cannot ever wear heavy or light armour and does not get a surge anymore. His ability is movement related, he moves enemies. His feat has changed to a circumstance where he gains an attack and grants someone else an attack at the same time.

Okaluk and Rakash have not changed except for one key difference, the feat no longer costs an action.

The other two I think were posted on articles already.

I'm confused.  I'm looking at the Nanok hero card right now and all it says is:

Hero ability:

"If you do not have any armor equipped, each of your attacks gains one surge."

Heroic Feat:

"Use when you are attacked, after the dice are rolled. You are not affected by this attack."

How are you getting, "Nanock cannot ever wear heavy or light armor and does not get a surge anymore?"  That is no where on his card.  The First Edition hero card states that he cannot wear armor, not the second edition.

The "card" (referenced as sheet) you are looking at right now is the old one from the conversion kit, not the new one from stewards of the secret.

Not the same Nanok, nor the same artwork, miniature, and all

Got it.  I wish someone would post an image of the Stewards of the Secret Nanok Hero Sheet.  I keep finding images of people that claim to have it but it turns out to be false. Thank you for clarifying, Rugal.

That's a good call.

I also like the Cloak of Deception for him. Extra Grey Dice and if you roll a blank on any defense die you get to test Awarness (his is 3, which is pretty balanced for the great outcome) to bring back his feat from the conversion kit, NOT being affected by the attack. Unlike the feat, he could do it multiple times per quest. Just needs to be paired up with Bard with Rehersal to get those re-rolls just in case. And/or Raythen, my homeboy, for his Ability.

If you really want to be mean and turn him into a TANK get him the Ironbound Shield or Heavy Steel Shield as well.

That would not be allowed on these boards, as that is FFG's copyrighted material.

You um.. may be able to find the image you seek elsewhere though... BGG perhaps? :P

Suffice to say, the heroic ability and feat are accurate.. R.I.P. Nanok!

Well I don't think he's as gimped as you believe. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough, all these H & M collections keep digging into my wallet, and I just don't seem to want to help myself...

I wish they hadn't re-used the D1ed models fro the Farrow Clan, their new artwork from Heirs of Blood makes them look so bad ass, and the artwork for Merrick from that Kindred Fire Promo is awesome.

So Nanok, does he still have same stat (4/12/4/Black)? And he can only move Small/Medium monster?

Yes, same as before.

4 Speed, 12 Health, 4 Stamina, Black Defense Die.

4 Might / 2 Knowledge / 2 Willpower / 3 Awareness

Ability: You cannot equip Light Armor or Heavy Armor. Once during your turn, you may choose 1 non-large monster adjacent to you. Suffer 1 heart and move that monster 1 space.

Feat: Use after another hero performs an attack. Immediately perform an attack with a Melee weapon that targets 1 of the same monsters. Then, that hero may perform an attack that targets the same monster.

===

So yeah, he can only move Small monsters, sadly. By the rules, anything that isn't a small monster is a 'large' monster. That is, Medium, Huge, and Massive monsters are all under the category of "Large" monsters.

Well I don't think he's as gimped as you believe. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough, all these H & M collections keep digging into my wallet, and I just don't seem to want to help myself...

Oh Nanok is not a terrible hero now by general standards, don't get me wrong. Black defense dice and all around great stats and attributes remain!

However, he has gone from being a godly, best general-purpose Warrior in the game tier, to being fairly middle of the pack, in my view.

I still think he can be uniquely effective in some situations. If it wasn't for the "non-large" limitation of his ability, I'd be quite happy with him, in fact. He would be great for setting up his friends for blast attacks, as well as slowing down monsters that are retreating, without using an action. That is really cool!

I just am really bummed out by the limitation, because as I said, there will be quests where the ability can't be used at all. That is a shame, and makes him stand out less.

I will still give him a go. I think he will make a fine Skirmisher or Champion, and will remain quite powerful in Act I by being the only warrior so far in the non-conversion-kit world that starts with Black defense.

He would also make an interesting Beast Master, because he can technically use his Wolf as the target of his heroic feat, allowing him to use the feat even when he's separated from his fellow heroes.

I wonder how Nanok synergize with Grey Ker ability?

Grey attacks first with 1st action,

then Grey uses his ability to pause his turn,

Nanok uses his both actions,

goes back to Grey for him to use his 2nd action,

Nanok uses his heroic feat.

If Nanok is a knight, he can use his oath of honor to stick with Grey Ker(killing a target to proceed with Advance). Or flay them with Skinning knife during melee as Beastmaster.

As a Skirmisher his Ability can help set up Carve a Path, as Beastmaster it can help set up the wolf on the abilities that give out extra dice. I think the limitation on small monsters is a balance issue, it would be pretty epic/funny to see him hoist a Shadow Dragon over his head

Also remember that Lieutenants and Agents are mostly small monsters, so I guess Sir Alric isn't going to be the only one pushing people around with his bare hands anymore.

I'm glad they reused the miniatures, it lets me use the metal D1e lieutenant miniatures.

Davachido : You forget one very important point : now the blood apes are 4 squares monsters instead of 2, and for using leap attack, it going to be different, since heroes may block spaces.

Re: blood apes, I don't have the conversion kit so I was going off of their abilities listed on the wiki which have their movement listed as 4. So I'm guessing that's wrong on there then? Also, how can heroes block spaces other than preventing the Ape expanding at the very end as it still says "It may move through spaces containing enemy figures", the only thing that changed with regards to moving through characters was the verbiage to make it consistent with other similar effects.

Are the blood apes now 2x2 rather than the old 1x2?  They have changed some but did not realize that they changed these?

I know the wendigos got changed- did the manticores? In any case, I wasn't aware the base size of the blood apes had been posted.

Ah their size, yes they are 2x2 now didn't think to check that. Nagas are 2x2, I assume that's the same as before and ferrox are still small.
