Worst Idea ever...

Recommended Posts

Plz, stop publishing new stupid core books, and start developing new and useful SOURCEBOOKS!.

I dont need a new beginners/core for Old Republic, a new beginners/core for Clone Wars, a new beginners/core for Force Awakes, a new beginners/core for GUNGANS etc etc etc... with all books repeating same rules and only 2 new things.

My backpack is little and my back is painful so much weight. You are forcing me to buy a tablet PC with all piracy PDFs.

Waiting ages a sourcebook for bounty hunters, and You publish this s***, common!.

So if they do release a Boba Fett movie would you be uninterested in a Beginner Game Box set around that movie?

Admittedly that would depend on this being very successful and whatever else that comes out after it like a Rogue One version...

If you read the product description, it clearly states the following:

"Note: Unlike our other Beginner Games, The Force Awakens Beginner Game will not be followed by a new Star Wars RPG game line. Instead, it draws upon the core mechanics shared by Star Wars®: Age of RebellionStar Wars®: Edge of the Empire, and Star Wars®: Force and Destiny. Players interested in continuing their Star Wars adventures can do so through any of these fully compatible systems."

No - the worst idea would be to release a Star Wars Holiday Special Beginners Box Set, complete with stats for Jefferson Starship and rules for running your own Mind Evaporator Wookiee Porno sequence.

. . . .actually on second thought, I'd buy the hell out of that box.

Who WOULDN'T want official RPG stats for Bea Arthur?

Coincidentally, I learned yesterday that our GM (who runs several groups) will soon be running a crossover adventure between two of the groups, which will take them to the Mos Eisley Cantina...with Bea Arthur behind the bar.

No OP is right, they just needed to come out with a Force Awakens Sourcebook and tie it into the other 3 core books, that's all that wa needed, this stupid beginner sets are worthless.  They carry no fluff or hard data to really run a long term campaign with.

I'm starting to wish WOTC still had the game and was doing it in d20, as my group has quit playing altogether because of all the core books needed to play FFG SW and the different character class books, its a money pit.

While I do agree with the OP's thoughts on not wanting any additional core sets...the article clearly states this is not the case.   What I do agree with though are Beginner games.  Why?  Because they are fun, mini adventures in a box with literally EVERYTHING you need to play.  Do you know how many player's I've introduced to the hobby with a Core rulebook?  The answer: 0.

Do you know how many players I've introduced to the hobby with the Beginner games? Answer: DOZENS.

Beginner games create new players...and with all the new movies coming out...FFG would almost be silly not to try to have a Beginner game for all of them.  It brings in new players and new players are what keeps FFG putting out sourcebooks and more content...their current business model couldn't continue at this pace if they're not bringing in new players..

So...bottom line...more Beginner games means more players...and that means more support and more sourcebooks.  So...I'm excited!  Besides...I love the Beginner games...fun one shots that you can easily play with almost anyone.

FFG is a money pit with too many books? Dear god, never tell your RPG group about GURPS. Their heads would simultaneously explode.

Oh, BS.  You don't remember all the D20 books?  All the "prestige classes" and abilities that were just variations on a theme?  For both games all you need is one core book to play.  But at least (IMHO) with FFG you get more for your money when you buy a sourcebook.  The variations are more interesting, and the fluff better written and more valuable.

In all honesty, I only ever bought WotC d20 books to convert data to WEG d6. I couldn't stand the system. And, let's all be honest...as has been said, every RPG system can be seen as a money pit; any RPG system that doesn't release additional content is a failed RPG system, because of course they want to continue making money on it. Just selling a core book doesn't accomplish that. FFG's system, at a glance, appears to draw inspiration from White Wolf's World of Darkness structure: different yet compatible games, with their own unique flavors, and corresponding line-specific supplemental materials.

But let's also not forget...WotC also had an introductory game that, if you wanted to continue, you had to get the CRB and whatever else struck your fancy. I've got a copy of it - Invasion of Theed - sitting in my closet.

I think you've found my secret recipe for success at every table!

Now I'd love to have a Star Wars Rebels Beginner box set, but it would have to be Age of Rebellion focused and the Ghost crew as npcs so they'd base the pre-generated characters on secondary characters from that series.

For example Zare Leonis, his hacker former girlfriend (Miriel?), the other force sensitive who defected from the Imperial Academy in season 1 and perhaps a member of Phoenix Squadron as part of that group?

What characters would you like to see if this was released say next year oh wait that would probably be the Rogue One version wouldn't it?!
