VanorDM 11,599 Posted May 5, 2016 Would look worlds better than that Ultramarines film from a few years ago. I never even saw that. I remember hearing about it but never watched it. Does anyone know where I could find it?
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 5, 2016 I am sure you can get it on amazon, I've got it, frankly I wouldn't bother.

Robin Graves 6,054 Posted May 5, 2016 *cough*torrentsite*cough* But yeah don't bother with it. It's atrocious: Machinima level of animation quality, like it was all made in cut scenes from the first Dawn of War. Story is by Dan Abnett, but this was before he got descent at writing about Ultramarines. And they leave the landspeeder behind! What in the name of the Omnisiah where they thinking? 1 DariusAPB reacted to this
Akaga 39 Posted May 6, 2016 Would look worlds better than that Ultramarines film from a few years ago. I never even saw that. I remember hearing about it but never watched it. Does anyone know where I could find it? It used to be on YouTube. A coworker sent me the link, I watched the whole thing (y'know, to make sure it wasn't a rick-roll or something) then told GW Legal about it. Don't bother watching it. The graphics might have been good about 10 years ago, the plot is boring and you won't remember it in T-5 minutes. I think they spent their whole budget on the voice actors. DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 6, 2016 And they make some SERIOUS leaps with regards to the Codex... If it were Blood Ravens then sure, whatever, we all know they don't follow the codex astartes very much. But these are Ultramarines.
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 6, 2016 The more I look at the screenshots for DOW3 the less eager I am about it. While the cutscenes are beautiful and gritty the game itself looks like a cartoony mess.

If it were Blood Ravens then sure, whatever, we all know they don't follow the codex astartes very much. But these are Ultramarines. That right there kills it for me. I mean if I watch a movie I expect to be bad, I'm quite often pleasantly surprised because it's not as bad as I was expecting... Starship Troopers being an example. I love the book but I knew the movie didn't... shall we say stay 100% true to the book. So I found it enjoyable for what it was. But if the Ultrasmurfs don't follow the Codex... That's something I just don't think I could get past. 1 DariusAPB reacted to this
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 6, 2016 Yeah me neither... I mean I'm much the same with both Starship Troopers & Lord of the Rings. I make a point to separate book from film and love both as separate entities. 2 VanorDM and McFoy reacted to this
VanorDM 11,599 Posted May 6, 2016 And Dune... I saw the movie first and Loved it. I got the book and frankly had to force myself to read it, mostly because it was IMO dryer then Arrakis was. 1 DariusAPB reacted to this
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 6, 2016 With dune I actually played the amiga videogame first. That made me read the book and then watch movie, in that order.
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 18, 2016 Quick note. I've actually started an online Space Marine Chapter for the DOW games, Space Marine, BFG etc. Its' over steam, as Chapter master I assign challenges for our crusades. Mostly PVE, will be some PVP. If anyone is interested then they can absolutely PM me. It's mostly RP, and definitely casual.
VanorDM 11,599 Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) I might have to hit you up for that. Have you ever looked at the FFG Deathwatch RPG?Also I've started to play the Heralds of Ruin Killteam rules. They quite frankly rock. Using true LoS and lots of cover makes for some very interesting games. I'd still prefer something like how IA does it, where you alternate between models but it's still good. Plus the cost is nearly on par with X-Wing for a space marine list. DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 18, 2016 We are the Crimson Griffons. An Ultramarines descendant chapter with some slight deviation to codex (all companies are self reliant, have their own veterans and scouts, as well as armories because DOW). You can find us in facebook and steam as groups. I do know Deathwatch (and have DM'ed Dark Heresy and Only War in the past), and am considering dice based RPG in the future, but right now keeping it simple to challenges on the video games. I love Killteam. 2 McFoy and VanorDM reacted to this
VanorDM 11,599 Posted May 18, 2016 I just sent a thing to join your facebook page. I can't do steam at work... But I'll look it up when I get home. I've actually been thinking about breaking out Space Marine again for a bit. When I get a chance I'll see if I can take some semi-decent photos of my killteam and post them here or somewhere. I got the Overkill boxed game a while ago and so I've been painting my marines up as Black Consul's because that color scheme is a pretty decent match to the Deathwatch colors. Black and gold vs Black and a silver arm, and a few chapter colors... So my Deathwatch Librarian looks pretty good on the table next to my Black Consul marines. 1 McFoy reacted to this
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 18, 2016 I still need to pick up Overkill, have added you to the group though - most of the meat is on the forums but it's new, not everyone is on there yet so I am posting relevant stuff to the FB page as well. I do have a Deathwatch Killteam, kitbashed over ~ a decade. My Main killteam is Raptors. (Razorback + sternguard with rending bolters and turn 1 stealth is way op). VanorDM 11,599 Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) I still need to pick up Overkill I have yet to play the Overkill game, but it looks like fun. Sorta like space hulk I think... Never played space hulk myself but I've seen it. You have titles and can move X number of rooms. A simple ruler that lists long, attack and melee ranges. It also has a bit of a Imperial Assault feel to it. It comes with cards for each character and the Genestealer player sorta has unlimited numbers, again ala the Imperial player in IA. The combat is sorta stripped down over normal 40k and has them sort of hard coded in. But if nothing else, like so many other GW "starter sets" it's a great value just for the models. 11 Deathwatch marines with really detailed models, one of them on a bike, and 38 genestealers. For $165 (100 pounds) that's a lot of great models. My Main killteam is Raptors. (Razorback + sternguard with rending bolters and turn 1 stealth is way op). We're going to start a killteam campaign this weekend. My son is playing 'nids and I'll be playing the Marines. Looks like there will be between 6 and 8 people involved over the 3 months. My list is a Codicier for the leader, 5 Tactical marines one with a Heavy Bolter. 2 Vanguard vets, one with lightning claws one with a power sword and a terminator with thunder hammer and storm shield. I have to say my other issue with Killteam and this may sound odd coming from a marine player... I think they shouldn't of allowed any units with 2+ saves in, armor or invulnerable, which means no terminators. But I just think 2+ is too good for the limited number of attacks you can really make with most killteam lists. DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) In killteam 2+ is specifically disallowed... At least in regular GW KT. This said, I've allowed it in my games when a guy's just brought 3 GK terminators and is like "can I play".? Twin linked lascannons, an inability to get close due to kiting and rending bolters means they went home disappointed. VanorDM 11,599 Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) In killteam 2+ is specifically disallowed... At least in regular GW KT. We're playing the Haralds of Ruin rules which allow 2+ saves. I may have to check out the one you use and see how it looks. Edit: I took a peek at the PDF for GW's KT and it's way different. the HoR version treats nearly every model as an independent character and you buy them as such. DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 18, 2016 Yeah I know HoR. It was based off of 5th ed Killteam, but 6th ed evolved differently. I enjoy both. 1 VanorDM reacted to this
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 18, 2016 Juuust incase you care for a history lesson, 4th ed killteam was V V different, and based on the 3rd ed last chancers rules/a scenario when they came out. 1 VanorDM reacted to this
VanorDM 11,599 Posted May 18, 2016 I didn't play 40k until 5th.
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted May 18, 2016 5th was by itself a good edition, introduced my favourite unit - Sternguard. However the GW culture that was really alive through 2nd to 3rd really wasn't there. White Dwarf articles in the 3rd ed VERY often had their own rules/custom rules. The Last Chancers had a setup where they could be fielded as individuals with each model having their own special rules. Some were just scrubs, but others were very... interesting. Kage for example had a combat knife (monofiliment) that counted as a power weapon. 1 Robin Graves reacted to this
Iceeagle85 495 Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) But if the Ultrasmurfs don't follow the Codex... That's something I just don't think I could get past.Well there are Ultramarines that do not care so much about the Codex Astartes, Cassius ignored it with his Tyranid Hunters and Uriel Ventris and the captain from the Space Marine game would'nt give too much a **** about the Codex if it stands in the way of getting things done. But yes that movie was awful. Back to topic, i'm looking forward to DoW 3 although i was more a fan of part 2 than 1 and i hope it will have coop missions.
