Revised Regionals Data

258 posts in this topic

Okay, I converted the spreadsheet I am using to track the Regionals data over to Google Sheets.  So, there is now a version that you can view.

I also took the time to clean some things up.

  • I combined a few archetypes to reduce the overall number.
  • Included information on # of Deployments
  • I pulled the Fargo Regional out of the Top 8 data.  With only 9 people attending, it was unfairly skewing things.
  • I still need to recreate a few things from the original spreadsheet that Google broke, but I will get there.
  • I was able to better break things down into even more categories.

With some big regionals coming up the sample size should grow, which will help make this more useful.

Take a look and let me know if you spot any issues.  I should get the rest of the information and statistics back in there over the next day or two.

I don't suppose you have fleet point system to go with that do you?

Unfortunately, I don't have that information for many of the fleets.  I can go back and look to see if it is worth adding in.

My students think that I am grading their lab reports, but really I have been playing more with the data.

Everything looks pretty good.  Let me know if there is more that you want to see.  I will probably work on recreating some of the graphs as well.

Looking at the top 4 for the 5 tournaments you have there and I see 17 Imperial lists

. . Wow!

Yep, that and the overall domination of Motti and Rhymer have been what stands out to me.  I've never taken Motti all that seriously, but he is making a tremendous showing at Regionals so far.

Yea, not sure what's going on there. I don't take Motti very seriously but it does add a bit more life to a ship. . . Ohhh an article idea! Like clontroper5 did the threat range thread one can do a survival thread.

Taken each ship and see how much damage is needed at any given scenario for each range. Yes I know most players know these things but this is a visual aid. You can use it to show the relevance of Motti and Rieekan.

Another thing that was a bit surprising is that the winners are averaging almost 9 points per round.  It's a bit less with 4 round tournaments.

This is great data shmitty. I'm very thrown by the Imperial skew in general. Almost two-thirds of players are bringing Imperial. That's insane. While they're dominating the top 4, the Rebel representation in the top 8 and in the winners circle is roughly equivalent to the number of Rebels actually being taken. What's really concerning is how dominant Rieekan is. He seems to be the only answer for the Rebels to get into the winner's circle at present.

I'm hoping that as the sample sizes grow some different things will start to shake out.  I know that locally Rebel Swarms are a popular and effective build, but they've been nearly non-existent so far.

Tying names to spots may also be interesting. Meaning, some people will be at multiple regionals and their specific list may not change (I'll be hitting four total regionals)

My point is, it'd be interesting to see if the players change in the rankings by list taken.

Might be difficult to collect that data...but it'd be telling if the lists were what was getting players to a spot or if the player regardless of the list arrived at the spot.

Saturday will be interesting. I know we have a good mix usually in our area

With winners At 9 points a round, you're really handicapping yourself if you take a bye.

That's been a concern, and now it looks like there's some data to back it up.

Depends if TOME is being used. BiggsIRL had it in his and was hitting 9 for his bye.

I wonder if the Rebel/Imperial split is because some of the really competitive Rebel lists (Rieekan, that list Lyraeus always jumps at the chance to mention, etc.) take a lot of practice and a higher skill level to field? And I'm not knocking those Imperial players' skill levels. Rieekan just seems to take a lot of practice to get just right, and Rebel MSU lists also take a lot of practice and maneuvering skill.

Dodonna the Oppressor list is a Rebel MSU list. It however would likely lose to a DeMSU. It will be interesting.

All MSU lists need a lot of practice. A few errors and you lost your edge.

I am actually super surprised by the lack of Mon Mothma.

Can't stop Demolisher

She does more to mitigate DeMSU than Ackbar, Garm, or Dodonna, AND she is an answer to Rhymer.  Nothing can "stop" Demolisher, but you can make sure Demolisher gets destroyed for stopping by and killing something.  But I definitely don't want to bog down this thread with back and forth over who is better for what, so I will just say I am looking forward to how the Regionals shake out.

I agree. A TRC90 swarm with a high bid is a natural counter to DeMSU. Surprised we're not seeing more of it.

Because when it comes to the Non-Vassal Real-Life Tabletop....

...  Its fairly expensive, all told.

There have been far more Yavaris/Gallant/Haven type builds that are heavy on the Rebel squadrons than there have been swarms.  They certainly aren't doing as well as the Rhymer builds though.

So this comment made me do some more calculations.  Non-Rieekan Rebel swarms make up 9% of the fleets, but 23% of the bottom 1/4 finishers...

Rebels make up 62% of the bottom 1/4 overall.
