In Nexus of Power, what is the justification for Gungans having three presence?

Recommended Posts

In my group of friends I GM our star wars game. But once it ends if any of them decide to do another one during the clone wars or around episode 7 I plan on playing a Gungan. I will focus on charm and diplomacy and always try to talk my way out of combat with as many "Wesas, Bombads" and "Doodoos" as it takes.

Great now I wish my verpine would have been gungan ;-)

I actually plan on having a badass ex-gladitorial fighter gungan in my game. If it wasn't for Jar-Jar the species actually has some cool elements to them and are frightening in combat... I'm trying to show the cooler side of the species, breaking stereotypes and stuff.

On a lark, I rolled up a Knight Level Gungan Hired Gun/Enforcer.  The Presence of 3 means that he can "play nice" when the situation calls for it, and thus be "respectable" to a degree.  Kind of pictured him wearing a black suit like the ones worn by Samuel L Jackson and John Travolta in Pulp Fiction.

With all the interest in Gungan players I'm surprised no one has started some sort of Gungan game on the forums. I would join that in a heart beat

Sounds interesting... Gungan Rebel team of specialists? I may be able to find the time if people are actually interested.

I'll play, I just don't have the *exact* stats. So if someone could PM them, I would be very grateful.

I don't have the book. But, I know the rough statline.

I was thinking about it, and does it occur to you that Jar-Jar might have to make fear checks for a lot of things.( And he usually fails, with a Triumph.) Resulting in his Abnormalites.

Presence "is a measure of moxie, charisma, confidence, and force of personality." - F&D CRB p. 25

Barring the obvious exception, the other named Gungans show those qualities.

Well, nobody killed Jar Jar, despite how annoying he was.  That's a sign of a pretty good natural Presence if you ask me.  :D

But yeah, they were a very sociable species when you actually engaged them.

I would be very interested in that. Though I would have to look up the specific Gungan stats.

I'm thinking something along the lines of;

Rebel Cell, mostly independent on a planet with rare contact with Alliance Comand, so a broad mix of skill is fine

All Gungan (possibly a droid) or a very very good reason for a non Gungan character.

All careers from all books are open.

Expect a broad variety of almost episodic missions, I like to split the party too! Although I'm not sure how well that works for a PbP.

I think I would prefer a group of 4PC's possibly a Maximum of 5, too many and the game can stall for a while waiting for the right people to post.

All contribution to the world building is welcome, with ideas on names, places, past events etc.

I would consider Knight Level or at least some additional XP if players think that their character concept would be more refined from that.

AoR character creation, everyone has duty. If your Force Sensitive in any way then also a Morality score, with obviously no benefits of the choice (start at 50).

Open to starting with a small base, and allowing Knight credits to be spent on upgrades.

This sounds crazy enough to work. I may be interested.

I think it requires either the game to be set (start?) on an Imperial oppressed Naboo, or the PC's are part of a displaced community of Gungan living on another planet that is oppressed. Probably some world with large oceans, but I'm open for suggestions, even a group made new world.

I don't know a huge amount of the Legends either so be prepared for me to make **** up, or rely on the Wookiee.

Ok Arctanaar your the last, let's hear your ideas for a character.

I'm happy for everyone to shoot ideas around, when you all wake up!

As fair warning I should tell you all I'm in Australia, +10 GMT, I'll be quiet during US mornings, but keep you up with notifications late into the night ;)

:P I have yet to play edge or age so I must ask, aside from duty is there anything else majorly different between making an AoR character vs a Force and destiny I should know?

Species are universal.

AoR/EotE characters choose 1 extra career skill to gain a free rank in (4 free ranks instead of 3, total of 6 free including specialisation skills choice) at creation (they also have more actual career skills for those careers, 8 rather than 6

Everyone starts with 10 Duty, this can be bought down to gain certain benefits by choosing one of the following (don't have to choose):

-5 for + 5 starting xp

-5 for +1000 credits

-10 for +5 XP and +1000 credits

-10 for + 10 starting XP

-10 for +2500 credits

When the total Duty of the party reaches 100 they all reset to 0 and the group increases in contribution rank (CR starts at 0) then either everyone gets something cool (1 piece of equipment of rarity 3+ current CR) or the entire group get a single vehicle (again must be rarity 3+CR or less), third option is for some base upgrades, final option is for a single big asset for a short use.
