Sorely missing

Recommended Posts

After singing the praises of the books in my earlier topic, I wanted to check what things you feel are still 'missing' from the game.

For me it is;

Species: Jawa, Gammorean

Spec: Scavenger/salvager, Private Eye

Region: the Deep Core

Ship: .... No idea....

Species: Gonna second Jawa on this one. Also, not a specific race, but I feel like there are few races that feel worth picking based on their racial abilities. In the end it's flavor>stats for me though.

Spec: I recently build a Private Investigator with one of my players, out of several Trees. Would be cool to see a spec to focus on this style specifically.

Region: Something on Wild Space / Unknown Regions would be cool.

Ships: Would love to see some Old Republic ships, like the Thranta Class War Cruiser. Alternatively New Canon ships, like Rens shuttle.

A ressource book on crafting your own vehicles/starships would also be awesome, though I would expect it to be rather extensive and complex to be worth it and to not feel lackluster.

Species: Jawas (obviously!) and Cathar

Spec: Martial Artist (though I'm sure you can build one out of a few trees, there's nothing that's explicitly Brawl focused!)

Region: I second Deep Space - though the region details would need to talk about ways to even get there.

Ships: I really want Hammerhead Cruiser (Old Republic) rules for reasons... but I'd have to say the Gladiator! We need more small SDs for Inquisitors and ISB agents to throw around!

Species: Honestly too many to name. I use miniatures in my game, and yesterday I finally filled out or found stats for everything in my treasure of minis. Would not be realistic to name em all and hope to see em in books, though I do really wish that FFG would stop reprinting species, like the Quarren or Lannik. I understand why they do, but personally I just wish they didnt. Could have had some cool additions that we now will have to wait longer for. If I had to name a couple, I'd say Jawa, Ugnaught, Rattataki,Pantorans, Shistavanen, and Cathar.

Spec: I feel like one of the only things that is really lacking is melee combat in terms of specs. I get Marauder, I get Enforcer, and I get Infiltrate or Gadgeteer, but there's nothing for the explicitly for Fencer-types or Pikeman-types. Would love to see that happen, though I don't think it will. And yes, I know there are ways around it and all, but I'd just my thoughts.

Region: Honestly, I like the Region books more than anything. I'd hope for a book per galactic region, and even the more important "spaces" like Mandalorian Space or Bothan Space. I'd also like books on more important sectors too, like the Corporate Sector or Arkanis Sector.

Speaking of books, I think it'd be cool to have a sort of cultural book (don't think it'd happen) that may go into the Echani, the Dagoyan, the Mandalorian, the Nightsisters, and all.

Ships / Vehicles: Would like to see ships from more of the other Star Wars sources like the Hound's Tooth (honestly thinking about it, it could be there and I haven't seen it, and let this speak for any ship I bring up haha), the Zygerrian ship / Maul's ship in Clone Wars, First Order / Resistance ships, Malak's ship in KOTOR and things like that.

Would also like to see more to the crafting and things like swoop racing, pod racing, other gambling ventures, maybe more information on businesses and homestead or rules to building a colony.

I personally homebrew tons of stuff from a crafting mechanism to information on the structure of things like gangs to cartels and have done my own rules for swoop racing and the lifestyle that goes with it or can be associated with it. However, as confident as I am that I am doing a good job, I'd concede to FFG's rules happily but I tend to feel like soooomething is missing or too broken. I'm also an ******* and don't like having players be able to break a system or get something too cool too easy. I'm very much tough on the idea that if you want something cool or tons of credits, you'll have to be smart and obtain it without finding an easy way to grab it. But that's just me.

I think the Warden from Keeping the Peace is at the moment the closest thing to a concise Brawl spec.

Fly Casual has some vague discription on how Hyperspace charts are made, maybe this could elaborate on that. Also I think Nexus of Power has some stuff on how to discover planets, haven't really dug in yet though.

Man, I love the ISB, a sourcebook for them would be amazing, like a counterpart to AoRs Strongholds of Resistance.

What really missing are available copies. FFG seems to live in constant fear of not selling their whole print run. I am literally waiting for 5 months now for a copy of Fly Casual and it still not available here. Nearly the same time for SoT which I imported then instead and got the damaged last copy available from that source. And SM? Well, out since over a month, but no copies available still and already sold out at FFG. It's sickening.

But yeah, the amount of content published is as well quite low. Javas would be cool, an Index book that just tells me were to look for stuff would be helpful as well, etc so much potential and no option to spend money.

I feel your pain. Especially with Special Modifications, could have got it at inflated import price, but much prefer to pay RRP through UK distributor. So still waiting... (patience is a virtue, right?)

I adore it, but all of its unique talents and most of its flavor are Coercion focused. Don't get me wrong, a lot of that can go into martial arts.  ;) I still think it would be nice to see a tree that has a collection of the Brawl-based talents plus Dodge/Defensive Stance, etc. Kind of like one of the Saber Trees, but for open hand. Of course, what I really want is a set of trees for different types of martial arts, allowing you to use Cunning or Agility or even Presence for Brawl (or a talent that add Coordination to Brawl damage like Pressure Point!) and some really cool flavor stuff.

Back on topic:

I forgot about new mechanics and systems!

I am sorely missing rules right now that they'll add later, as is my fate. I wanted cybernetics and droid crafting rules 2-3 months ago, and there're here now, after that's all been handled by hand-waving and narration. Right now, I'd like to see rules for Temples (the FaD equivalent of Bases and Homesteads/Businesses?) and something to expand the Artisan. My player has been really into the tech-attuned Force adept flavor of the Artisan, but I can't really find much for him to do. Sure, there are crafting rules now (which he loves), but nothing that really feels like FaD. I'm considering a Seventh Sister-esque droid fleet as an option for him with some Force flavor thrown in, but I want to know the kinds of things Jedi craftsmen made and how they did it, because that's what we both ultimately want for his character. If they rebuild the Order, everyone will sort of have their role in it, and his would be... well, artisan. But there's nothing to take him on that journey, mechanically, that I can use to give me ideas.

What we're not going to see? Expanded rules for being in charge of a Rebel group, like a Sector Force. We have mass combat, yes. We have squad/squadron rules (that, while I love, feel a bit lacking as a long-term mechanic). We have bases. But there isn't really anything about bringing it all together - outfitting and training troops, what those benefits might look like expressed through the squad/squadron rules (right now, 5 guys in rags with sticks do the same thing as 5 elite Rebel SpecForce operatives... unless the guys with sticks have Discipline as a skill, in which case they're better), how to network bases, etc. That's a pipe dream, though.  ^_^

Species: Jawa otherwise anything is good, I hope they make some of their own or define some of the cast of Maz's Castle

Spec: A Buccaneer who dual wield melee and pistol (not holding my breath) and a Bounty Hunter Pilot with signature vehicle stuff. I would love the Engineer book to have a Squadron Mechanic that can have multiple small signature vehicles too. A Detective in the BH or Spy book would be cool. More charm deception and negotiation social FaD specialisations.

Region: Geonosis & Tatooine (must be where Jawa will be), Corporate Sector, Deep Core,

Ship: happy here, other than the rules for making your own... Come on Engineers book!

Base rules: Training facility (Military or Force Sensitive), Research Facility and guidelines for PC's having their own space (Hanger, Workshop or Barracks etc) on a capital ship similar to the SM Workshop rules.

That one is really big for me too.

Mechanics to track Factions, basically. With stats, moves, actions, and options and all that.

I do track faction activity between sessions but currently it's an arbitrary process of what makes sense to me.

Maybe you could look into a game called Stars Without Number.

It's a sandbox sci-fi RPG and has extensive mechanics to keep tabs on factions, each with their own "character"-sheets, tracking ressources, actions, buying/selling assets, attacking other factions.

It's like a GM-only mini game inbetween sessions. All with specific tables what kind of assets a faction can have and buy with what ressources and what those assets can accomplish against other factions. Really neat.

I thought about adopting it for my campaign, but that would require some work I don't have time for right now to tailor it to Star Wars.

I would like to see something like SW D6 Lords of the Expanse that introduced a region of the galaxy with nobles and their houses. The expanse came with an adventure, a player and a GM book. FFG could make something similar like they did for WH3, where they made a book for the nobles and expanded rules for the social combat. Nobles fighting for power in the Imperial palace, ISB intrigues, etc.

Species: Bith (jawas are overrated), Abednedo, Talz, uggnaught (once again, before contemptuous jawas)

Specialization: I'll second scavenger, or settle for rules for scavenging.

Region: Imperial Ranks - sector book to running imperial centric games

Weapon/gear: Conncussion Rifle - the ones that send peopke flying from Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games

Ship: nothing per se, but would love to see art for every ship. Yes, I CAN go through wookiepedia for ships, though that is a hassle, and some new ships have NO art whatsoever. If I had to list a sepecific ship it would be the Imperial Raider and an accurate Imperial Gozanti

You do have the temples from Nexus of Power but they are not something that can be exploited like a homestead or base.

You, sir/madam (too tired to check), just sold FFG a book. I will pick that up with my next paycheck.

Species: Bith (jawas are overrated)

Seconded, especially as I had a really important Bith NPC and liked her a lot.

Species: I'm still holding out hope for the Zeltron.

Yeah, this.  I wouldn't ever personally allow Jawas (or Sandpeople) anyway, player characters of these species would ruin their mystique.

We already have Marshal for the private investigator, it's exactly a Philip Marlowe or Sam Spade type.

I wouldn't mind seeing martial arts but I can see why they won't do it.

I'd have liked to have seen a 'Noble' in the Diplomat book instead of the odd specs we got there.

As always I'd like to see more human-like species, and species that are appropriate for the career book they appear in. The ones we've seen lately have been a really strange fit.

What I REALLY want most of all is more Universal specs. That might also help to sell region books or adventures maybe?

At this point though, I think I'd take anything new. April has come and gone without any new announcements, compared to the weekly articles other FFG games seem to get.

Species: Zygerrians

Spec: Something else with Skilled Slicer because I'm not a fan of Slicer but would like to be great at slicing.

Region:  No real preference

Ships:  There's already 10 x more than I'll ever use, so no real dog in the fight over what else needs adding.

My wishlist, as it were...

Species: Squibs, Zeltrons, Barabel, Jawas, Zygerrians, Ugnaughts, in about that order of preference.

Specializations: Nothing in particular aside from generally wanting the career books for Warrior and Sentinel.

Region: Nothing in particular, as I tend to make up details for worlds as needed for the adventure being run.

Ships: YT-1930, as it was something of an overall improvement over the over-used YT-1300 and hot-rodder YT-2400.  There's plenty of other ships found in the old WEG d6 supplement Stock Starships that I'd love to see get official stats, as well as some others in the light freighter range whose names I'm currently forgetting.

This seems to be pretty easy to replicate with a home brewed specialization.  Take some of the stuff from Infiltrator, mainly the combat related stuff, throw in some Dodge/Side Step, and make a home brewed talent to allow you to use Cunning or Agility instead of Brawn for your Brawl/Melee attacks.   The skill Brawl itself is perfectly serviceable for Martial Arts, as the description of what you are doing is really all flavor text.  There is no need for a new skill, though you could make one if you really want to.  Heck, that might be the easier way.  Make a new skill, tie it to Agility, boom, done.  Then use the various talents I mentioned above in a new spec.    Not sure what career you would tie it to though?

OT:  Jawa definitely.  I want to make my Jawa Jedi damnit!

Other than that....not really a whole lot that I feel is sorely lacking from the system.  The rules are, by design, vague in most areas, to allow the GM the room to adjust things for their table.  So I don't really feel there is any specific thing missing.   Though I wouldn't mind a larger list of animal stat blocks for random encounters.  Most of the ones listed are all minions, very few rival/nemesis level monsters that I've seen writeups for.   Granted I don't have every book, but between me and my 2 players, we've got a large chunk of them, and I don't recall seeing any extensive beastiary.   I know they don't plan on ever making one, but including more animal stat blocks in the back section of "new npc's for you to use" would be nice.
