Phillipsosophy 16 Posted April 25, 2016 There is much discussion on the topic of the Imp "Rhymer" ball. As one who uses Rebs exclusively, I would like to find out what is working well for he community squadron wise. Any help/suggestions/experiences shared is much appreciated. -Phillipsosphy
Ardaedhel 10,844 Posted April 25, 2016 There isn't one "best" squadron setup for the Rebels. Partly because we don't have broken cards like Rhymer (SHOTS FIRED). In seriousness, though, our squadron synergies come from our ships, not between our squadrons like the Imperial squadrons do. Because of this, the "best" squadron setup depends on what ships you're bringing. A good example is the two major bomber list archetypes I like to run: triple AF2 and AF2/AF2/Yavaris. With the the AF2's, I run Jan with lots of non-named A-wings and B-wings, with flight controllers and boosted comms on the carriers. When I swap one out for Yavaris, though, I want to maximize my synergy with the Yavaris double taps, so I swap out the A-wings for Dutch and Wedge and maybe Luke or an X-wing. That completely changes my approach in the squadron game from heavy alpha-strike to escort/defense, so I'll probably try to fit Gallant Haven in, maybe in place of a boosted Comms. That said, there are a few good combos, if you're not familiar with them. Wedge/Dutch is probably the most obvious. Jan and a few X-wings. Dash and Han work pretty well together. 2 CaribbeanNinja and Phillipsosophy reacted to this
CaribbeanNinja 6,207 Posted April 25, 2016 I totally agree with Ard. Unlike the superior (shots right back at ya) imperial squadrons, rebel squadrons get their synergies from ships and upgrades. Nasty rebel squadron stuff: Now: Yavaris Adar Tallon Dutch/Wedge Jan's braces Later: Torryn Farr Bomber command Please do not use these as it makes Imperial order SO much easier. 4 Phillipsosophy, reegsk, clontroper5 and 1 other reacted to this
Vergilius 2,118 Posted April 25, 2016 Rebel squadrons are quite a bit less point and click. The ship types and upgrades matter a great deal, as both other posters have noted. Adar Tallon costs you 10 points: Ideally, you want to be able to use him to give another attack to an otherwise expensive squadron. So he offers the most if you're already bringing named squadrons. If you cost compare, you're getting much more efficiency out of him and the named squadron than if you just brought a generic version of the same fighter. Yavaris can really help you in many different ways. I'd really like to try using it to bring a minimal set of squadrons for AS that can then turn and attack ships if the situation presents itself(probably Dutch/Wedge). I think post wave 2 that every list needs something in the way of squadrons, I've just lately been working on how to do more with fewer squadrons/points invested into them rather than less. I love Independence B-Wings as well. 1 Phillipsosophy reacted to this
Mad Cat 2,250 Posted April 26, 2016 General Rieekan and Wedge (or Luke). On the crunch turn fly him into engagement range of as many enemy squadrons as you can and get them all to fire at him because of the Escort rule. Even if he is dead they must still fire at Wedge (assuming you brought no other Escort fighters into the dogfight). Your other squadrons can either attack ships or join in the fighter combats getting unanswered shots for a turn. 1 Phillipsosophy reacted to this
Ginkapo 9,321 Posted April 26, 2016 Rieekan Yavaris with Luke, Nym and Keylan is the most potent bombing force in the game. Note I didnt say anti squadron. Luke needs some help and intell for that. 1 Phillipsosophy reacted to this
Phillipsosophy 16 Posted April 26, 2016 Thank you everyone! I used Yvaris with Wedge, Han and Dash. My opponent had a ship heavy build with only three interceptors. Needless to say, with the double activation of Yvaris I made short work of the interceptors and turned the squads attention to enemy ships and cleaned up what my ships started. They won the battle for me! Thanks again for the advice here ☺️.
