Scum tournament list 1 or 2?

Hi all!

I'm normally an imp player but started playing scum recently and really enjoying the play style. My question is what list looks more competitive and what (if any) tweaks would you guys make to it? Looking to make the jump to competitive play over summer. :)

(played once with great success with a slightly different build on the merc (wired, Gonk and experimental interface) - didn't have enough damage output for me so made the adjustments...)

As said looking to step up my game and enter the competitive team without going too netlist-y. Any help/advice/criticism would be very welcome!

The first list I have something like it built that hits hard. I use Kath instead of Boba.

Your second build I would drop the title on the Y wing, and change the K4 to Dengar. Dengar is better if your meta is ace heavy, and does not tie you down to predictable green maneuvers to get rerolls.

List 1:

 

Boba needs Engine Upgrade. No matter what you do, especially since you're starting out on Scum.

He also loves Veteran Instincts, while we're at it. Repositioning is a huge part of playing a Firespray and you need to be sure to move last at all times.

Lose HLC, it's counterproductive and costly. You want R1 for as long as you can.

 

Gonk is a bit of a trap, if you can't clear stress easily. I'd recommend you focus on getting clear shots with Bossk. A party bus (Dengar, 4-LOM and Zuckuss crew) is your safest bet for accurate shots and not minding stress. Add Wired and Mangler, lots of re-rolls to correct bad dice and guaranteed crits. Inertial Dampeners is always a nice trick on a YV-666 for double full-stop, also.

 

 

List 2:

 

Lose the title on the Y-Wing, immediately. 3 attacks on a lackluster primary do not justify the loss of flexibility the title brings if the attacks add nothing extra. If nothing else, find room for an astromech. Either Unhinged or R4 will help a lot.

 

Manda Merc is a bit of a dead horse. Whatever it does, the Scout does better and cheaper. But I'm guessing you don't have a 2nd JM5K. Replace K4 with Dengar, lose the cannon, switch the EPT and use bombs. If there's room left, Feedback Array to cover the blindspot. No idea of what you have, so it's just a guideline.

 

Overall, the first list is better, though.

Lose the Mangler on Boba, he doesn't need it. It's the same 3-dice for a damage mod that only works on your front arc while costing 4 pts.

If you have it, Tactician is a better crewmate on Boba, as well. Often RecSpec will conflict with Engine Upgrade (if you use one, you're not using the other).

 

Also, Dengar and K4 Security Droid on the same ship is a waste of 3 points. The reason to use Wired is because you're packing Zuckuss crew in the first place, so put Zuckuss in there (take out K4. Dengar doesn't lock you on greens and, with Wired, you'll have enough re-rolls to not need a TL).

 

Those changes should net you around 7~8 pts of leftovers. Boba appreciates bombs and/or Glitterstim. Bossk likes Engine Upgrade a lot to fix that arc to shoot Mangler, but this setup builds a lot of stress...your call.

So this is the list I ran last night against an a-wing swarm for practice for this Friday... I'm absolutely loving bossk and boba survived a turn of being battered by using that glitterstim... And his engine upgrade was a lifesaver in itself. The only thing I'd like to change now is the engine upgrade on bossk. From turn 2 onwards I had at least 1 stress and I think I ended up with about 13 or 14 tokens by the last turn!! So didn't get any real use out of it. He is an absolute beast though.

What would you guys suggest instead of the EU on bossk?

Bombs/missiles on Boba? Or shield upgrade or anti-pursuit lazers for bossk maybe?!

Heavy Laser Cannon. With so many re-rolls, you're bound to get natural crits anyway. And the extra die is just brutal.

 

Or put Gunner on Boba (RecSpec and EU tend to clash a lot) and use the 3 pts left for Hull Upgrade or APL on Bossk.

Exactly. The effect only counts for the attack roll. Any mods after that are not affected by HLC's restriction.

Awesome thanks,okay with HLC in I have 2 points spare... I quite like recspec as it's come in handy with Boba on the front lines multiple times... Would dropping vi for PTL work better? I've just realised I don't have APL but I do have ion projector... What dyou think? Boba with VI and a 2 point initiative bid/ion projector on bossk or Boba with PTL for 100 points? Cheers again dude!

PTL isn't stellar on Firesprays due to lack of greens. Predator ends being a better choice 99% of the time, but Boba doesn't need it. And PS10 is vital for his mobility.

I'd stick Cluster missiles and Guidance chips on Bossk instead of the engine. The hard part is getting the target lock, but once those missiles are away, two 3 dice attacks with a guaranteed crit on one and rerolls on both attacks. Twin that with Bossks ability and you have potential for 8 damage!

Oh I like the sound of that... Only issue is range 1-2 but I'll try to stay de-stressed til then... Could be very nasty. Was planning on keeping them on separate flanks and eventually swapping over. Any advice on actual movement/setup tactics for me? Cheers again!!

The tournament was yesterday, and I made a few stupid mistakes that I'll put down to inexperience and the stresses of trying to be t/o as well as play.

Main mistake was removing Boba as destroyed then realising he was in range 1 of not 1 but 2 star vipers... I only needed to save one hit as well. That game I lost by 3 points.... ****.

Second mistake was down to fatigue probably, I played 3 t65 xwings and for some reason set bossk opposite them with Boba on the far side with a whole asteroid field to maneuvere through... Three turns and a ridiculous amount of blank dice results later for me and bossk was dead and boba was only just getting off his first shots of the game. Not fun. And my luck didn't change for the rest of that game really, I managed to keep Boba alive for another half hour but didn't manage to score a single kill. It was a painful experience and I have no idea why I set up like I did...

My first game happened to be against the same a-wing list I practiced against as my friend flying it was 10 minutes late and everyone else had paired up and started playing by the time he got to the shop.

This time he was running 3 green squadron a-wings with predator, crack shot, thrusters and refit and jake farel with PTL and missiles of some sort.

I managed to take out Jake fairly early and killed two generics with most Shields remaining on Boba and only one shield taken from bossk.

Overall I'm really happy with the list, and the fact I can pinpoint precise stupid moments that cost me (at least a draw in the second) the other games is probably a good start.

Overall I placed 11th out of 14, but with practice I'll be sticking to this list and won't have to worry about being t/o in the next tournament and should place much better. :) thanks to all who helped me on the way, I shall endeavour to improve for future events!
