Concerned by the lack of upcoming books

Recommended Posts

The books will come/are coming.

I think you're missing the point.

Of course the books are coming. But... Why the slowdown?

Or is this, in fact, a "normal" shipping schedule?

Again, based on previous years, it just seems to me we'd have had - at the very least - announcements regarding some EotE books by now. *shrug*

Edge books have been slowing down for some time now. Like I said, I don't have my charts with me right now (things only happen during the week, so all my spreadsheets are on my office computer), but I'll emphasize this again: nothing unusual is happening at the moment.

I'll get you guys some actual numbers tomorrow.

EDIT: Thanks for the assist, Themensch! :)

Yep. With only one more career book to go for Edge, a slowdown makes sense. While there can always be more region-type books and adventures, the "Big One" is the Bounty Hunter book, so it even makes sense to tease it out. Radio guys call it "teasing the bit."

It’s times like this when my OCD kicks in.

I have to fight with myself to either:

  • Reply with spelling/capitalization/grammar corrections
  • Laugh and make public note of the embedded message
  • Try to find something else witty to say
  • Just skip it because my OCD has kicked in and I’ll never be able to make a decision between the various options
Feel free to guess which option I have chosen. ;) Edited by bradknowles

So what you're saying then is that you understand my pain, huh ;) ?

Well, I didn’t make mention of the mis-spelling in the embedded message, did I? ;)

...Okay, what am I missing? I've gone over it five times and I can't any mis-spelling. It's just three simple words...You're just doing this to torture me, aren't you! You monster!

Well, the third word is not correctly spelled — it should be “PLEASE”, not “PLSEASE”

That extra capital “S” got you!

And yes, I have sometimes been referred to as a monster. Tape Monster, Game Monster, and now OCD Monster.

I am also somewhat of a fan of Lady Gaga, although she’s young enough to be my daughter, and I’m not so enamored of all of the things she does. But being a performance artist 24x7 is hard work!

You do realize that there was new sentence starting at that point, right? All of the letters of the message were added into the regular flow of the normal message, yes? That "extra" "S" is the capital letter at the start of the sentence. If we remove it, then the original message would be mis-spelled.

That should have been taken into account as part of the steganographic plan to embed the “hidden” message, yes?

All of the letters of the message were added into the regular flow of the normal message, yes? That "extra" "S" is the capital letter at the start of the sentence. If we remove it, then the original message would be mis-spelled.

I did notice that some of the capital letters had been added to the words in question, but it looked to me like some of them were existing letters that had just been capitalized.

I had not noticed that all of the letters from the hidden message had actually been added to the existing words.

I stand corrected. These are not the capital letters you are looking for. Move along.

Huzzah! I'm not crazy!

Or, well, I am, I'm just not as unaware as you made me think I was!

You may also notice that all the letters are 10 characters apart (20 to indicate spaces), with one mistake that I made putting the "L" and "E" 9 characters apart.

That mistake has been corrected now :) .

Heh, sorry that this thread ever existed at all to give you all a place to have that fight :P

But seriously, thanks to everyone who reassured me about the lack-of-books thing. I by no means was ever trying to go full-panic, I just noticed a slowdown and wanted to inquire about it!

EDIT: To the normal people of the thread, I'm sorry you had to witness our obsessive-compulsion fight; now you know our shame :( ...

I’m 50. I have long since gotten over being ashamed about OCD.

Sometimes I regret having it, and I can usually keep it mostly under control.

But then there are also occasionally times when I can unleash it and put it to good use — it got me into the Rancor Publishing Group, for one thing.

So, I’m not ashamed. I’ve come to accept this part of my personality. I wouldn’t be who I am today, if I didn’t have a little OCD.

First of all, thanks for being the first person here to actually seemingly comprehend why I brought this thread back. ;)

But, second, I'm still not sure I understand why a slowdown (or a long tease) makes sense. Wouldn't it behoove FFG to clear one of these lines from their plate? Then they can focus on just two lines instead of three (and - who knows? - perhaps even provide a surprise adventure book or space sector book for EotE every so often)?

It seems to me that the sooner one of the lines is "complete," the sooner FFG will gain the goodwill and trust of the fans and the sooner threads of this nature will go the way of the dodo.

Anyway, I find I'm always entirely baffled by FFG's decisions when it comes to both their RPGs and miniatures games ... whether it's the splitting of lines, the selection of included content, the release schedules, or what actually ends up being released. Ha.

But, hey, for the most part? FFG always puts out a quality product.

Anyway...

Absol, looking forward to your data collection. It's incredibly helpful and cool that you're willing to share those numbers with us.

Once a line is "complete," it could also be perceived as being "dead," which leads to the line being less attractive to potential new players.

I don't imagine that the Star Wars license is cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Thus I can see them wanting to stretch out the life of a line for as long as they can so that they can make back their investment and then some. There's also the possibility that the license itself requires a certain amount of product to be maintained in order for them to keep it. Thus extending the life of each game line by slowing down the production of books in the three lines as a whole to kinda draw things out is a way of making sure they meet their contract obligations.

It wouldn't be easy to do that in Aurebesh.

If we follow the pattern, Force and destiny just got a book, a soldier sourcebook have been announced for Age of rebellion, so next line will be EoTE and hopfully the Bounty hunter book so people will stop complaining about their Bounty hunter not receiving his new toys sooner.

Five or six books a year is probably my ideal speed.  One every other month or so.  This allows me to pick them all up without having to justify a sudden glut of spending to my lovely wife.

I'm so happy that my wife is a nerd too; between amiibo and FFG Books; a lot of our disposable cash goes to very nerdy pursuits.

I'm happy that I don't have to justify my spending to my wife - the only money she controls is what she makes!

I think it may be a bit longer before we see something for EotE. Let's remember that they also announced a TFA Beginners box. Since I'm pretty sure the people who worked on that project work on other projects related to Star Wars the development of that one shot box set likely mean that somewhere we are getting one less book for one of the ongoing lines.

If there's a bottleneck anywhere in the system (and I'm not saying that there necessarily is one) I'm pretty sure it's at the printing end of it all. The printer FFG is using probably does lots of other business, both for other FFG lines and other customers as well. I'm guessing that the SW line gets a limited number of "slots" to have their products printed and have to decide what product goes into which slot based on what's ready-to-print at any given time. I doubt that FFG can just call their printers and say, "We have a book ready to go now, can you guys start tomorrow?".
