Rebel Veterans

Recommended Posts

With Imperial Vets in the not to distant future the Rebel version can't be far behind. I think the logical ships for this are the Y Wing and the E Wing. The former will be only ship from the first three waves with less then there aces after Vets hit and is one of the most iconic ships of the Rebellion so it's sure to be in the box and the latter is one of the ships most in need of fixing. So. What do you think will be in it?

Y-wing wouldn't mind new pilots, but honselty doesn't need any help whatsoever since TLT released, so there's little chance it'll be in Rebel Veterans.  Meanwhile, E-wings definitely need the help, and t65s could still use a little love.

A T-65 and E-Wing in, say, green squadron colors would be pretty cool to see...and certainly need the boost.

THAT SAID...the Rebel Y-Wing collection is far more spartan than the X-Wings for pilots.  I think they have ?half? as many pilots as the T-65s?  And while it's true that the TLT REALLY buffs the Y-Wing, FFG could easily release new Y-Wing pilots that don't really benefit from the TLT (abilities that can only trigger once per round, or work defensively, or only at range 1, etc).

The key to that distinction, though, is that FFG can still put out another T-65 fix at the same time as an expansion that features Y-Wings and E-Wings.  Via: another new astromech droid.  T-65s can use those, too.  So while the T-65 has a ton of pilots while the Y-Wing doesn't, an expansion featuring the Y-Wing may still be able to include another T-65 fix.

(And given how much IA does to "fix" the T-65, it'd be a pretty minor tweak needed at this point.  I'm thinking something like a 0-point astromech that let's you remove 2 stress tokens when you do a speed-1 green maneuver or something.)

The thing is that aces packs so far have generally been about fixing ships.  Not just adding new pilots.  The y-wing doesn't need a "fix".  It's already good, and sees a ton of use.  If all they want to do is new pilots there's other ways they could do that.

Why not  a mix - E-Wing and Y-Wing unique pilots - and an astromech upgrade that has some kind of funky effect when discarded.

Also - the aces packs aren't just about fixing stuff - sometimes they just add new pilots - eg B-Wing in the original Rebel Aces certianly didn't need nor did they get a fix, they just got variant that existed in the lore already.

Riiiiiight...that's exactly what I was suggesting.

"Rebel Veterans" makes the most sense as something to fill out the Y-Wing and E-Wing ships with new pilots, and introduce a new astromech that becomes a slight bump to the T-65 over most other things.

They do make an odd pairing, but those ships certainly trail the rest of the Rebel fleet in number of unique pilots (equal only to the Z-95 and HWK-290 of the older ships*)

* Depending on how FFG wanted to break it up, I guess...technically, the K-Wing has the same number of uniques.  Maybe a Y-Wing and Z-95 pack, and then a K-Wing and E-Wing pack?  Would make more sense thematically, but...I dunno, I'm a bit skeptical of how it would do in the market.  I mean...who wants to buy another K-Wing?  Nevermind ALL the Z-95s out there, now...

Financially, FFG would be crazy not to do some sort of T-65 X Wing tie-in for Rogue one at the end of the year. Will that be Rebel Veterans? Or a separate product? A "Rogue One" or "Rogue Squadron" Box containing a movie-painted T-65 or two plus a separate Rebel Veterans (Possibly in 2017) lets them buff or just add new pilots for the X-Wing, Y-Wing and E-Wing, and maybe even the Z-95, depending on whether we see rebel fighters other than the T-65 int he movie (Y Wings and Z-95s would be the likeliest possibilities IMO).

Even though Rogue One isn't actually about Rogue Squadron at all?  Yes, X-Wings will be in it, but from all available information, it will focus more on a small group of soliders sent to seal the Death Star Plans.  The Director himself has said he wants to put the 'war' in 'Star Wars' with this film.

It is questionable at this stage how much material from the film will lend itself to the game.

There is no way to tell. The name 'Rogue Squadron' does not appear in the films, or any canon source I know of. The books have been relegated to legends status. This means that the name could be used in a different context than the one you are used to.

There was a 'Rogue Group' of course, but that seemed to be a couple of snowspeeders. I don't know what more is behind that, and I am looking forward to finding out. Maybe X-Wings play a role, and maybe not.

I'm reading the rogue squadron comics at the moment and for that reason I would like to see an X-Wing with a few of the pilots we haven't seen yet. Plour, Tycho in an X, Dlrr Nep etc.

Would also like to see the Y wing get some love. Keyan Farlander should have a Y-wing version as he did fly it in the battle of Yavin. Plus we need more pilots for the Ys!

E Wing also desperately needs a new pilot. Horn and his ability is the only version you ever see in casual or tournament play!

Rogue Squadron or Rogue Group is basically all the pilots at Hoth during the combined defense & evacation of Hoth. This includes the guys who flew the snow speeders and their gunners, and the pilots who flew escort to the escaping frieghters (the ones who survived the snowspeeder battle escorted the last ships out of Hoth). Legends books basically build off this particular group into a the famous EU formation. (The other Group or Squadron of the Rebel Alliance was Renegade Squadron - got wiped out.) The new canon may rewrite that somewhat.

Maybe, but the film does not explicitly say most of that. So it could turn out to be quite different, or not.
