Kudos to the first person to post an OP list using Attani Mindlinks

Recommended Posts

Short answer: its just not op. Getting free focus is not even close to enough to compensate for stressing your whole list, while of course the more ships has it the better (or worse...?). If it would remove stresses too...then it would be interesing but now its just weak.

ps. What rebel breaker you would build with it? Just curious cause for me it has no use at all.

This list is 100% theoretical, but sounds fun. Just don't do red maneuvers or there will 4 stress on each ship :P

The first ship to move focuses then everyone else either target locks or evades. serissu uses thread tracers to give everyone target locks (only if they didn't target lock already) and also helps keep them alive. You should be able to do enough damage with the missiles and focus tokens to take down a deci or ghost. this list looks fun to play. i don't have any scum,so i can't play it.

Kyle Katarn would make mind links incredible for Rebels.  Garvin Dreis also.

All PS5, move who you want first depending on who is most likely to engage.

Guri gives a focii to your whole squad at range 1, allowing your Findsman the ability to evade and live longer.

Mink link only gives you a matching token if you don't already have one. So you don't get more than 1 stress.

Why Concussion missiles? Yes you can use Guidance chips but its one shot. If you don't kill what you shoot at in that first exchange of fire, (maybe the roll incredible on evades) you're left with your native 2 attack.   I would take Mangler Cannons for the same points and be able to use it every turn.

sorry misread the card, but after you use your missiles you still have 4 super survivable ships because each ship gets a focus, evade, and a reroll on one defense dice. It's a better four tie swarm pretty much.

I REALLY LIKE THIS COMBO!  You might be on to something.  I really like the Manaroo passing of focus tokens and getting one back interaction.  It never occurred to me.  And the Moldy Crow ability to save them is a nice touch.

Manaroo (27)

  • Attanni Mindlink (1)
  • Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)
  • K4 Security Droid (3)
  • Unhinged Astromech (1)

= 34 pts

Guri (30)

  • Attanni Mindlink (1)
  • Autothrusters (2)

= 33 pts

Talonbane Cobra (28)

  • Attanni Mindlink (1)
  • Engine Upgrade (4)

= 33 pts

Total: 100 pts

Guri aims for R1

Manaroo (with Guri's focus) BRs for blocks, gets free TL to pass along

Talon boosts for killer 5-dice R1 (plus Guri's focus)

Start of combat,

Guri at R1 passes focus

Manaroo passes TL/focus to Talon (who now has 2 focii), gets a focus herself back

???

Profit

APL can also be Cloaking Device for Talon or Virago+Baffle for Guri, if you're feeling especially dangerous. Even nothing at all for 2-pt bid on Talon.

But 2-dice Manaroo needs another way to be offensively relevant.

Here's someone who 'gets' it!  :P  Other posters in this thread I can tell don't.

Unfortunately, that Manaroo is a little toothless.  There's no 'one true list' that 'unlocks' the secret of Mindlink.  I've already used it successfully in a VASSAL tournament and I'm going to use it again.  Its totally worth 1 point!  Bonus focus tokens all around is nice, especially on ships that can take lots of different actions (such as the viper and the scyk).  The number of pilots that can use it well is limited, however...

Guri, Kaa'to, Manaroo and Palob all have obvious synergies with it and can really boost a list's action efficiency in conjunction with Attanni Mindlink.  The trick is keeping your ships alive----its value diminishes to nothing when down to just one ship....

Mindlink Manaroo is bound to be toothless. Outside of K4, you have to come to terms with the fact that she'll be an alternate version of a Bumpmaster. And that's not actually a bad thing, since she pays up in dividends for that, as long as you setup a nice offense with the rest of the squad.

And, for those who are turned off by the stress disadvantage, Manaroo is perfect for a Mindlink squad because of the Unhinged+K4 combo.

Even if someone needs to K-Turn or S-Loop or whatever, she clears stress easily and has her ability to back everyone else up. As long as she sticks to greens and is not double-stressed, the rest of the squad is bound to have focus/TL whenever needed.

Here's my take on Mindlink.  They all fly PS7 so there's some flexibility in case you know you're going to get stressed.

They all have some kind of 4-dice attack -- Kath from rear arc, Kavil from off-arc, and Zuckuss with his power.  Granted, they are all kind of bare bones; however, the Advanced Sensors on Zuckuss is important.  You can always decide to use him first, to grab a focus from Advanced Sensors, before you bump and give everyone else a focus (especially for that blaster turret).

I dunno.  Lots of dice on the attack... slow roll everyone to get double focused shots (especially Kavil).  Kath is in front on the first pass, once she flies pass, you gets the rear-shots.  Zuckus goes in next, with Kavil off to the side for the turret shot.

This would fly a little weird -- but I think if you could figure it out it would be fun.  Tons of 3 dice attack that could easily get into 4 and 5 dice (with double focus) if you could unlock the puzzle.

Kath Scarlet (Scum) (38)
Attanni Mindlink (1)

Kavil (24)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
Blaster Turret (4)

Zuckuss (28)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
Advanced Sensors (3)

Total: 100

I tried the following list on Vassal, it needs some tweaking but the concept seems sound:

Kath Scarlet (Scum) — Firespray-31 38
Attanni Mindlink 1
Heavy Laser Cannon 7
K4 Security Droid 3
Ship Total: 49

Tel Trevura — JumpMaster 5000 30
Attanni Mindlink 1
"Gonk" 2
R5-P8 3
Hull Upgrade 3
Punishing One 12
Ship Total: 51

Both are PS7 allowing you to adjust actions. With Tel being the close combat bumper and turret, Kath hangs back for Rng3 HLC shots. Depending on the situation you have several options:

-Full assault:
Green move with Kath, for TL and then Focus, giving focus to Tel. Tel moves and takes a TL. -> Both ships with focus and TL
-Kath boost:
Kath green move for K4 TK, takes Evade action. Tel moves and takes focus, giving focus to Kath. Now Kath has TL, Focus and evade
-Tel regen:
Kath takes focus, giving Tel focus. Tel regen shield with Gonk

And everything in between. Having one do a red maneuver and the other doing a green to clear the stress from the mind link, giving both a focus afterwards.
Its fun to fly, but not easy. The mindlink adds a whole new layer of planning to each fase, which is why I think two ships is enough.

I am considering removing the HLC and giving Kath EU. Now one ship can barrel roll or the other one can boost, while the partner provides a focus. The extra points could be spend on Feedback array on Tel for high agility ships.

I'm actually finding it hard to build scum lists that don't have mind link as the ept, it just give scum such good action economy on ships that don't usually have it easily (or easy stress relief) and who doesn't like a range one focus/tl talonbane cobra :)

My personal take on Mindlink is it seems best if you embrace the whole stress mechanic.

PILOTS

4-LOM (30)
G-1A Starfighter (27), Attanni Mindlink (1), Fire-Control System (2)

Palob Godalhi (30)
HWK-290 (20), Attanni Mindlink (1), Twin Laser Turret (6), Dengar (3)

Contracted Scout (40)
JumpMaster 5000 (25), Zuckuss (1), Overclocked R4 (1), Punishing One (12), Attanni Mindlink (1)

4-LOM likes stress as he can hand it off to other ships, Palob doesn't care about being stressed and neither does the Scout, who with Zuckuss crew is likely to have built up a large quantity of stress by the end of the game. You could trim a couple of points somewhere and upgrade the scout to Manaroo. Dengar and Zuckuss crew could be swapped around too or use maybe Bossk instead of Dengar.

The scout/manaroo is never likely to be able to perform a focus action so either 4-LOM or Palob need to or you could get the focus from Palob taking it from an opposing ship. The scout can also use the overclocked R4 to give out another focus if it uses one.

In regard to other ships I don't like Guri getting stressed because you can't turn around, Kavil would work fine

What about using it for a dual Brobots list?

On one hand brobots rely on their Sloops and K-Turn, on the other hand you can do something like this:

Step 1.) Brobot #1 performs a red segnor's loop, and both brobots are now stressed.

Step 2.) Brobot #2 does a green manuever (which the Brobots have plenty of) and does a Focus action, which gives a focus to Brobot #1.

Assuming you have FCS, that's some pretty boss action economy if you can play it right.

IG-88B & choice of other Brobot

Mindlink

Intertial Dampeners

FCS

HLC

Tractor Beam

Autorhrusters

I don't think it's a bad card, I just think you have to put some thought into it and build a list around it. It's not PtL or VI where you can just slap it into a list as an autoinclude.

I'm hoping for a pair of Integrated Astromech cards in it. No desire to buy more T70's for them. A few more Astromechs would be cool. I hope they include some stuff for all the ships.

Rogue 1 has said they will have a new Tie fighter in it. I'm pretty sure you can expect to see some kind of ship combat in it. Even if it peripheral to the plot.

I actually hope they debut some other ships. Another modified freighter remade into a gun ship, a few rebel corvette's, or maybe an actual rebel battleship, some content to keep Armada/xwing going.

Guri — StarViper 30

Attanni Mindlink 1

Autothrusters 2

Ship Total: 33

Prince Xizor — StarViper 31

Attanni Mindlink 1

Advanced Sensors 3

Virago 1

Ship Total: 36

Contracted Scout — JumpMaster 5000 25

Attanni Mindlink 1

Intelligence Agent 1

Feedback Array 2

Anti-Pursuit Lasers 2

Ship Total: 31

I always wished my Starvipers had more action options when I flew them. Now, they do!

I'd probably put Autothruster on xizor instead of APL though.

Cool idea, but i would put glitterstim on them over inertial dampeners
