Don't kill me, but... Clone Wars era ships?

This is a question that's probably been asked a lot and thus driven into the dirt, but it's one that I can't help but ask.

Am I the only one who'd like to see Clone Wars era ships on the table, either as a spin-off game or an expansion to X-Wing? Being able to fly a load of older ships would actually be a dream come true, and with the state of things during the Clone Wars it also opens up the opportunity to play larger games to field bigger or multiple squads. There is so much material available in the Clone Wars series that you could make a very competent pool of ships to choose from.

ARC-170s and older Republic Era Y-Wings and Headhunters? Vulture Droids with Buzz Droid Missiles? General Grievous in his Belbullab-22 with MagnaGuard Rogue-Class fighters? A plethora of Jedi Pilots - Plo Koon? Yes please.

What would you like to see (if you'd like to see them at all), if you could create the ships and field them on the board? As above, I'd love to see General Grievous in the Soulless One (lots of running away, anyone?) and Cad Bane in the Xanadu Blood, among many others. Deathwatch gunships would also be a pretty swanky addition to S&V, in this one's opinion.

You're not the only one, and I think FFG's introduction of subfactions to the game should make it really easy to add prequel ships if they want to. Personally, I want to see all of these:

 

N-1 Starfighter (Rebel Alliance)

Eta-2 Jedi Starfighter (Jedi, subfaction of Rebels)

Delta-7 Aethersprite (Jedi, subfaction of Rebels)

BTL-B Y-Wing (Rebel Alliance)

Belbullab-22 (Separatists, subfaction of Scum)

Droid Tri-fighter (Separatists, subfaction of Scum)

ARC-170 (Galactic Republic, subfaction of both Rebels and Imperials, making our first dual-faction subfaction waaaaaat)

Sith Infiltrator (Sith, subfaction of Imperials)

I'm not sure how well prequel ships would sell, at least in my area. A lot of the gamers are older gents who have a very opinionated view of any prequel material, but dear God are the ships pretty. That's a wonderful list of ships and we're merely touching the surface.

I'd like to see Geonosian Starfighters as well, if only because of the strange gimmick they have with Tractor Beam technology around their main gun (100 small tractor beams, as it turns out!)

I never want prequel ships in x-wing those movies killed star wars for me for a decade I hate everything associated with them.

What's more Disney know full well most people don't like the prequel trilogy which is why they'll focus on OT and NT stuff.

Civil war onwards is what we've been promised by ffg.

Some of the ships look cool. Not sure if pre-era galactic war ships are as powerful as X-Wings, B-Wings, interceptors etc. ??? There is a reason all the factions upgraded.

I'd be all over Clone Wars era stuff! Such cool designs, and ultimately a really awesome piece of the setting, the debatable quality of the films aside. Plenty of scope for fleshing out the two factions, adding new and different mechanics (Jedi pilots, droidy stuff), and just awesome minis. 

 

I'd rather it be kept separate but compatible with the OT era game (keep the mechanics, but discourage mixing periods outside of specific scenarios/themed games... I'd say the same about the TFA stuff as well, but there's not enough there to sustain a separate sub-game on its own).

Clone Wars would be fantastic!  I'd love to swarm Vulture droids, plus clone-war era Y-wings would be nice to see.  How about the Umbaran starfighter?

For all the hate on the prequel trilogy, the series was fantastic (except for the episodes George Lucas got his hands on, oddly enough).  It was how I introduced my daughter to Star Wars.

It makes sense in that they are adding Star Wars Rebels ships, which are pre-New Hope material. Just would be more expansions, just as they did with The Force Awakens core set and expansions. There is plenty already used in X-wing that doesn't come from the movies, so why would you not include the Clone Wars ships?

I'm not sure if TFA and onwards stuff will be made separately, but if the rules for TIE/fos and T-70s is anything to go by we might be seeing some very nasty ships in the future...

I'd love Clone Wars to be cross-compatible but separate in many ways, like introducing two new factions for the Seps and Republic with many of their own specific cards. As Fuzzy says, I'm not sure how strong many of the Clone Wars era ships would be compared to Civil War stuff, but I suppose they have the benefit of access to either very well trained pilots/Jedi in the Republic and advanced AI in the Separatists. However the YT-1300 and the Firespray are pre-Clone Wars era ships still used during (and after!) the Galactic Civil War, modifications pending. I think Clone Wars era ships would be able to pull it off.

Daresay there's other source material as well. I'd like to see Reti from Jedi Starfighter in the Zoomer and Nym in Havoc. Would make an interesting addition to S&V.

I don't think so, not all Jedi were amazing pilots. Obi-Wan was okay but the three big Jedi pilots to me are Plo Koon, Saesee Tiin and of course Anakin Skywalker. Jedi had to train to fly starfighters just like everyone else and although the Force provided them with some precognition they were as susceptible to being shot down. As Deathrain says above though, the Force is something that can be applied through pilot abilities so I doubt it'd be a problem.

I've been one of the most vocal advocates on these boards I feel like.

There's really no good reasons left anymore not to include them. Any arguments against them are very easy to refute. Unfortunately ffg is very anti-prequel era except when it benefits them (seismic charges for example). Though it sounds like they might be close to opening up to them.

There are really only two ship types for them, except for Darth Maul's shuttle and Count Dukuus as well. Figure a Jedi fighter might be more along the lines of Poe or Luke in point totals, and a droid fighter would be even less points than any tie fighter. This would allow you maybe two or three Jedis vs, 6-10 droid ships, or something like that in my mind.}

Not necessarily true! You've got Vulture Droids, Scarab Droids, Tri-Fighters, Hyena-Class Bombers and Droid Gunships for unmanned craft, and then you've got the Belbullab-22, Rogue-Class starfighter, Sith Infiltrator and Solar Sailor for manned craft, then you've got extra stuff like Umbaran starfighters and Geonosian starfighters. Separatists have a surprisingly large array of ships to choose from! 

Depending on what your fleet consists of I can see Separatists being able to boast aces such as Cad Bane and Asajj Ventress, but my ideal style of gameplay would definitely be swarming a variety of droids. Jedi playing like Poe or Luke isn't so farfetched, but I'd like to see how FFG might express the notion of Anakin being "the best pilot in the galaxy."

Eh, definitely not near the top of my list, but I wouldn't mind some, if FFG did decide to do them. Some need to be left in the dust though (yes I'm looking at you Twilight)

The bigger problem is that the Republic IS basically a sub-faction for empire and the separatist are basically another sub-faction for empire. As empire player the possibilities are … tempting. But I guess it would be better leave this subject either alone or introduce Separatist and Republic as their own factions.
